3 Entertainment & Technology TV Premieres in October The Flash The Flash will premiere on October 6, 2015 on the CW network. The show is based on the DC Comics character Barry Allen / Flash, a costumed superhero who fights against crime and has the power to move at superhuman speeds. The series is a spin-off from another series that airs on The CW, Arrow, and they are set in the same fictional universe. Barry Allen was just 11 years old when his mother was killed in a horrible incident and his dad was falsely convicted of the murder. Barry was raised by Detective Joe West, the father of Barry s best friend, Iris. Now, all grown up, Barry is a smart and driven CSI investigator who wants to find out the truth about his mother s strange death. TV Premieres in October - con t Halloween Wars: Infestation - Sunday, October 4th at 8:00 p.m. on Food Network. Teams battle it out each Sunday in October as they create Halloween-themed edible displays that will send chills up your spine. Jay Leno s Garage- Wednesday, October 7th at 9:00 p.m. on CNBC. The former Tonight Show hosts this eight-episode series that covers all things automotive including classic cars, super cars, road tests, investments, and more. Hellavator - Wednesday, October 21st at 7:00 p.m. on Game Show Network. Eight episodes where a team of three friends ride a haunted elevator into various levels of an abandoned slaughterhouse. One player must get out on each floor to conquer a terrifying challenge. The Last Kingdom - Saturday, October 10th at 9:00 p.m. on BBC America. This new series, from the award-winning producers of Downton Abbey, follows a young, orphaned, Saxon warrior on a fierce mission to reclaim his birthright after being captured by a Danish warlord. The Walking Dead The Walking Dead will premiere season 6 on October 11, 2015 on AMC network. It tells the story of the months and years that follow after a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by former police officer Rick Grimes, who travel in search of a safe and secure home. As the world overrun by the dead takes its toll on the survivors, their interpersonal conflicts present a greater danger to their continuing survival than the walkers that roam the country. 6 In Our Community 5K Race and Halloween Costume Contest The Germantown Hills Fire Department will host its annual 5K Race and Kids Halloween Costume Contest on October 24, The 5K Run/Walk begins at 8:00 a.m. (race packets may be picked up at 7:00 a.m.) at the Germantown Hills Fire Department at 313 Prairie Ave. The.66 mile Kids Fun Run will begin at the conclusion of the 5K race. Entry fee for the 5K race is $25 ($30 after October 7th), and the Kids Run is $15. Entries must be postmarked by October 7th to receive a t-shirt. All runners receive a free pancake breakfast after the race! Race day registration is available, however, you are encouraged to register before the race at: www. germantownhillsfd.com/5krace.html. The 9th Annual Halloween Costume Contest takes place later in the day with a fun filled evening from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Enjoy food, drinks, games for kids, Flint the Fire Truck, fire/ safety prevention, smoke house trailer presentations, pumpkin carving contest, and a special appearance by Andy the Armadillo Costume registration is from 3:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. with judging beginning at 5:45 p.m. Village of Metamora Join the VIP List The Village of Metamora has set up a VIP Text List for residents to sign up for to receive updates, emergency information, and other notifications from the Village. Children s Story Hour Text to: Message: KK189 Talks with the Mayor Join Ken Maurer on the third Tuesday of each month from 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. at Historic Grounds at 101 W. Partridge St. for Talks with the Mayor. Enjoy informal discussions on current issues and happenings in Metamora. The next talk will be held on October 20th. Fabulous, fall fun at your local library branch! Join in the fun of this eight-week program that runs through November 12, 2015 for children aged three to five years at any of the six branches of Illinois Prairie District Public Library. Mary Armstrong, who has over 20 years of early childhood education, will share her love of reading through books, songs, finger plays, and crafts. Letters, numbers, colors and shapes will be incorporated into each weekly session. Discover new books, dance to new songs, and develop new skills this fall as we grow and giggle together. Story Hour will be held on Tuesdays at the Metamora Branch at 10:30 a.m., and on Thursdays at the Germantown Hills Branch at 11:00 a.m.

7 Marching Band Competition Twenty Marching bands will envelope the village of Metamora on Saturday, October 10th for the 35th annual Metamora Band Invitational. The Midwest Percussion Cooperative Competition will start around 1:00 p.m. in the town square near the Courthouse. Field show performances will start around 3:00 p.m. on Malone Field. Kiwanis Serving up Breakfast Burritos Back by popular demand! The Metamora Kiwanis Club is hosting a Breakfast Burrito Sale from 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3 at the Metamora IGA. A Burrito is only $4, or the Breakfast Burrito Combo is $5 (served with choice of coffee or water). You ve got to try one...or two...or three. Pre-ordering for large numbers is available. The Kiwanis Club of Metamora has just recently formed a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation to fund MTHS scholarships and other local Kiwanis charities. Events, like our Breakfast Burrito Sale, help to raise much needed funds for our many charitable endeavors. There will also be a special guest performance of the Illinois State University Big Red Marching Machine. Fall Festival The Christian Union Church in Metamora will hold a Fall Festival on Friday, October 30, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. The public is invited to join in on the fun! Food will be available and activities include Trunk or Treat, games, crafts, and hayrack rides (weather permitting). Quarter Auction Metamora Germantown Hills Junior Woman s Club will be holding their first quarter auction! Join us on Thursday October 1st at 6:30 p.m. at The Flame in Metamora! Paddles are $1.00 each. All auctions are one to four quarters! Grab your friends and loose change for an evening of fun and to support area volunteers. Food and beverages are available for purchase from The Flame Restaurant.
