2 FROM THE COVER: Aidan Turner Grabs the Reigns in this New Chapter of a Vintage Masterpiece Classic Almost 40 years ago, Captain Ross Poldark galloped across the TV screens of millions of PBS viewers, vexing villains and winning female hearts in one of Masterpiece s earliest hit series, Poldark. Now the gallant captain rides again in a thrilling new version with all the action, adventure and romance of the original plus even more spectacular Cornish scenery and rousing local color. A Mammoth Screen production for Masterpiece and the BBC, the new Poldark airs in eight exciting episodes beginning Sunday, June 21 at 8 pm. Aidan Turner (The Hobbit) stars as Ross Poldark, a redcoat who returns to Cornwall after the American Revolutionary War to discover that his father is dead, his lands are ruined and his true love is about to marry his first cousin. Also starring is Eleanor Tomlinson (Death Comes to Pemberley) as the fiery servant Demelza, a strong-willed miner s daughter who runs away from home and finds refuge in Poldark s enlightened household. In a special appearance, Robin Ellis who starred as Ross Poldark in the original Masterpiece adaptation plays Reverend Halse, the village s sin-obsessed parson. Poldark is based on a beloved series of novels by Winston Graham. The first, Ross Poldark, was published in 1945; the last, Bella Poldark, appeared in 2002, the year before Graham s death. All twelve are subtitled A Novel of Cornwall and trace the fortunes of a landed, mine-owning family in windswept Cornwall two centuries ago. Masterpiece s new series opens with a prologue in Virginia in 1781, when Captain Poldark s regiment is ambushed by the local militia fighting for independence. After the war and with a scar across his face as a souvenir, he goes home to Cornwall where his real struggle begins. ALSO ON THE COVER: The Brit Side of the Moon Fans have embraced Brit Floyd as the world s foremost Pink Floyd tribute show. Renowned for their note-fornote perfection, impeccable harmonies, staging, lasers, Floydian animations and props, this 12-piece band creates a genuine reincarnation of the live Pink Floyd experience. Filmed in the summer of 2013 in front of a sell out audience at the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, Colorado, Brit Floyd Live at Red Rocks captures the magic and majesty of Pink Floyd s legendary music set against the awe-inspiring natural rocks and Colorado landscape. This full-immersion music and sensory experience airs twice as part of our June Membership Campaign Saturday, May 30 at 8 pm and Wednesday, June 3 at 7 pm. 12 Downton Uplifting With the announcement that Downton Abbey, premiering January 2016 on Masterpiece, will enter its sixth and final season, I m writing to thank you for your enthusiasm and support of the series. And as a fan of Downton, I m also a bit melancholy about the news. All of us at KSPS share your appreciation of this drama one of the most popular in the history of PBS and Masterpiece e and one of the most-watched dramas on American television. The goal of the show s creators was to evolve the series to reflect the characters growth, and the historical changes affecting life at Downton Abbey. They believe the past five seasons and the sixth in production now accomplish this. Gary Stokes There will be nine new episodes of Downton Abbey in its final season. KSPS will be also be bringing you new, ongoing Masterpiece e dramas, including an 8-hour remake of Poldark in June and Indian Summers, an epic 10-part series, in September. Also coming: new episodes of Sherlock; a 6-hour Home Fires, telling the story of English life at home during WWII; and Arthur & George, based on Julian Barnes novel about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. In addition, Last Tango in Halifax returns in June; and in 2016, PBS and KSPS will premiere its fi rst American drama in more than a decade. It s been great meeting all of the fans at our Downton n events over the years, and we re already planning several ways to say an appropriate goodbye to a show that s meant so much to so many. Together, let s plan to make the coming year a celebration of Downton Abbey and enjoy these new opportunities to experience some of television s best drama on PBS.
