3 Western Pond Turtles/Aviary Update Tortuga del estanque occidental/actualización del Aviario Explore a lush tropical rain forest with bright- ors of the Amazon Aviary at the Santa Ana Zoo at Prentice Park! cused Zoo Master Plan to give guests an opportunity to walk through the Amazon. While the plants and birds of the Amazon Rain Forest create an environment reminiscent of what you might encounter in nature, there is one species that might seem out of place. Swimming in the water and basking on the rocks are Western Pond Turtles. The Western Pond Turtle (Actinemys marmorat) is naturally found along the west coast of the United States from Washington to the Baja California peninsula and is our only native turtle. These turtles can grow up to 8 inches a light or pale yellow throat. The Western Pond Turtle is a vulnerable species due to habitat loss and degradation from human impacts. The introduction of the non-native Red-Eared Slider Turtle by irresponsible pet owners has resulted in less food and habitat for the native Western Pond Turtle as well. The Western Pond Turtle is a focus species for (Saving Animals from Extinction Program). This is a program that brings together a community with leadership from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), to save wild species. Zoos and aquariums are serving as breeding and head start centers, raising turtles for release into their natural habitats. To provide better water quality for the turtles and birds, the Aviary was recently Ready to help the Western Pond Turtles? If you are thinking about getting a pet, please do your research. Many of the non-native turtles found in pet stores will grow to be much bigger than an adult s hand and need a lot of watery space to be happy. If you have a Red-Eared Slider or other turtle you can no longer keep, do not abandon it in a public lake or river. Contact your local Turtle and Next time you visit the Zoo, be sure to visit the Colors of the Amazon Aviary! Enjoy the shade from rainforest plants, the brightly colored birds, and look for the Western Pond Turtles. Please call in advance. Registration Policies New students may register for on going classes as space permits. 3. Registration for classes is accepted only through the second week of each session. 4. Only payments of check or money order will be accepted. 5. a class is full or canceled. 6. If you pay by check, you expressly authorize the City of Santa Ana or its agents, should the check be dishonored or returned for whatever reason, to electronically debit your bank account on which the check is drawn for the amount of the check, plus a $25.00 processing fee. Make checks payable to the City of Santa Ana. 7. Classes will be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met, so register early. 8. The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency has the right to cancel or change any and all classes, activities or excursions, without advance notice. Refund Policies PRCSA 1825 W. For over 13 years, the Academy of International Dance has trained children in classical ballet and has been successful teaching students to reach point level. It all starts with beginning ballet classes.
