10 At Culver City Senior Center, HEARING AIDS Can Now Deliver Enhanced Sound! Did you know that most of today s hearing aids and all cochlear implants come with a magnetic sensor? It s called a telecoil (or T-coil ). When the user activates the telecoil (with a simple button push) the telecoil receives sound transmitted magnetically from many phones (including all landline phones) and from hearing loops installed in public places. The technology doubles the functionality of hearing aids, by enabling them to serve as in--ear speakers that deliver sound customized sound. For people with hearing loss, the Culver City Senior Center now offers a hearing loop system in the B & C Rooms. Hearing aid wearers with a T (telecoil) setting can now hear sound broadcast directly through their hearing aids during movies, dances, and any event using the PA amplification system. (Others desiring hearing assistance may check out a portable receiver and headset from the Business Desk.) For more information about hearing loops and the growing movement bringing them to places of worship, auditoriums, and home TV rooms visit or speak with your audiologist.
