1 THE DIVISION OF STUDENT AFFAIRS BY THE NUMBERS

2 Dear Friends & Colleagues: In Veritatis Amore, Welcome to By the Numbers from the Division of Student Affairs! This publication is a snapshot of the division s programs and events for the academic year. Each year Student Affairs monitors our outreach and student support in quantifiable ways. Through Student Affairs services, programs, and educational experiences, every student has opportunities for meaningful experiences leading and serving others, and for developing morally, ethically, and spiritually. These experiences enhance students academic abilities, bolstering their chances for success at Bellarmine and beyond. Every student should have a sense of belonging, knowing that they are a valuable member of the Bellarmine community. Helen Grace Ryan, Ph.D. Vice President for Student Affairs We incorporate Bellarmine values into all that we do. OUR VALUES Bellarmine University is an independent Catholic university educating talented, diverse students with respect for each individual s intrinsic value and dignity. We exist to educate the whole person to realize his or her potential as part of an interconnected world. Our values are Hospitality, Illumination, Inspiration, and Inclusive Spirit of Thomas Merton. Hospitality Student Affairs embraces new people and new ideas with openness and generosity of spirit, because we value the intrinsic dignity of each person as an individual, and each individual as a whole person. This characterizes our approach to teaching, to learning and to life. Illumination Student Affairs is dedicated to the pursuit of enlightenment and understanding, by helping people develop critical thinking and to teach people how to think, not what to think. Inspiration Student Affairs believes that as a community of teachers and learners, we provide life-changing experiences that educate and enhance. Merton Spirit Student Affairs promotes Bellarmine s mission to find its Catholic identity in the inclusive spirit of Thomas Merton. We believe in the search for the true self, the interconnectedness of life and the solidarity of the human spirit, which transcends ethnic, religious and social divisions.
