Mon-Fri, 9:00 A.M. - 2:00 P.M. Doctors appointments take priority. Please call and schedule your ride today! Greetings! It is hard to believe that summer is coming to an end. School buses are back on the roads and there is a chill in the morning air. I hope you enjoyed a wonderful summer. The senior center picnic in August was a big success. Many thanks to Doreen, Lesley and Wendy for helping to pull off such a great day. Also, my thanks to the following individuals and organizations who helped make the day special: Bernie Richardson, Bilton s, Bluebird Estates, East Village Place, Glenmeadow, Hampden Nurseries, Hampden Country Club, Hampden Hardware, Hampden Package Store, Integra Home Health, LaCucina, Manicures by Tina, Reeds Landing, Reid s Corner, Supercuts, Village Food Mart, Wingate, Brian Wilkins, Gennie Ford, Phil Hanrahan, Joe Lawrence, Senator Gale Candaras, Hampden Police, Hampden Highway, the Clambake Five and everyone who stayed to help clean up! I hope everyone enjoyed good food, entertainment, company and a great raffle! We can t wait to do it again next year! The Two Town Trolly is a big success in Hampden and East Longmeadow. Currently we are seeking grants to continue the operation of this valuable service. If you are interested in making a donation towards the van services please see me. Every little bit helps us to reach our goal of providing affordable transportation to older adults in Hampden and East Longmeadow. We appreciate your support of this program. 2 Page 2 Outreach - Wendy Turer - Hours: Mon-Fri, 9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M. outreach@hampden.org The Outreach Office is your resource center providing information on a variety of services, assistance programs, home health care, alternative living options, insurance information and more! LOCAL SERVICES Brown Bag: Brown Bag is a grocery bag program for anyone 55 and older. Call or stop in the Outreach Office for an application and eligibility guidelines. The Brown Bag Program is held on the third Tuesday of each month. Medical Equipment Loan Closet: Hampden Senior Center s Loan Closet is available to any Hampden resident free of charge. We have a variety of medical equipment available. SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders): Call the Senior Center to schedule an appt. Veterans: Hampden s Veteran s Agent John Comerford can be Van Transportation: is available through the PVTA by calling or Hours of service are Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. 4:00 P.M. Discount tickets can be purchased at the Senior Center. Volunteer Drivers: are available to take Hampden seniors to doctor visits. Contact Wendy in Outreach to make arrangements. We are always in need of more drivers. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Wendy. Lock Box Program: Call the Senior Center if you would like a Lock Box installed at your house. This box provides entry by the police department in an emergency. Call the Senior Center for enrollment or more information. Hampden s Emergency Fuel Fund: Available to Hampden residents in emergency situations. Donations to H.E.F.F. are accepted at the Hampden Senior Center. Fuel Assistance It s that time of year again for Fuel Assistance Applications and Renewals. The NEW income guidelines for the 2013 heating season are as follows: Family Size Income Limit 1 $31, $40, $50, $60, The following documentation is also required: - Copy of Social Security check or bank statement showing deposits (not more than 30 days old) Electric bill and 2012 Telephone bill - Oil Statement or Gas Bill (or both) - Property Tax or Homeowners bill - If working, 4 previous pay stubs (these have to be the most recent). Please contact Wendy with any questions at FALLON SENIOR PLAN Wednesday, September 10AM Sales representative, Dan Amason will be present with information and applications. We are pleased to be partnering with Care at Home for nursing services at the senior center. Twice a month, the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month from 11:00 A.M. 1:00 P.M. there will be a registered nurse here to take your blood pressure and answer your questions.

Next year s roster may include trips to Tangelwood, New York Botanical Gardens, Aqua Turf Club (Forever Irish with Andy Cooney), Tower Hill Botanical Garden, Mohegan Sun/Garde Arts Theatre ( 50 Years in Music with Pat Boone), and Blithewold Mansion/Gardens/Arboretum, just to name a few to pique your interest. Bobbi s Recipe of the Month Warm Blueberry Sauce 2 cups blueberries (frozen) 2 tsp lemon or lime juice 2 tsp sugar Bring blueberries to a simmer cook until sauce thickens.
