This month we bring you many great opportunities to have fun and to participate in some great health related activities. This month we have two great opportunities for free BLOOD PRESSURE screening: Joya Pezzuto, RN from Hallmark Health System will be stopping by the on Monday, September 10 from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM. We re also super grateful to Jodi Maddalini, RN from the Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center for also offering blood pressure screenings on Thursday, September 17 from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM. Please stop by to see these wonderful ladies if you would like to receive this service. THANK YOU Joya and Jodi! The Center is happy to welcome the Joslin Diabetes Center. Through their affiliation with Hallmark Health System, they will be offering a DIABETES EDUCATION SESSION on Thursday, Sept. 24 from 9:30 AM 11:30 AM. Come learn about diabetes, including what to eat, the effect of exercise and target sugar numbers. Please be on the lookout for their next session in October! Also, The Malden Board of Health will be organizing a flu clinic at the Center on Wednesday September 16 th from 11:00 AM-1PM in the auditorium. We ll have flyers posted soon. Please feel free to stop by if you would like to have your flu shot. This month s entertainment will be MR. DJ S HOLLYWOOD QUIZ SHOW! Do you like trivia? Then you ll enjoy playing along and being a part of the fun. Come join your friends at the Center on Tuesday, September 15 at 3:30 PM for a wonderful afternoon of entertainment and a light meal. Please remember when a light meal is offered, attendance to the show is required. We will continue to meet each month at our Senior Community meetings. This is a great opportunity to bring forth your thoughts and suggestions for the Center. We will be meeting again on Tuesday September 15, 2015 at 1PM in the Auditorium. We will be closed on Friday, September 4, 2015 and Monday, September 7, 2015 in observance of Labor Day. READING AND WRITING WITH DEB & PAM Classes will begin Tuesday, September 8, 2015 but students will be tested on September 1, 2 and 3 from 11:00 PM to 2:30 PM (1/2 hour each). Can you read and write English, but would like to improve your skills? We will be writing stories, reading books, and learning grammar rules. Students will be assessed prior to admission. Past students will not need to be tested but should still register. You must be able to read, write sentences and understand English reasonably well. Please call to reserve a testing time and date. Classes are on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Students must attend both days. CALLING ALL CANDLEPIN BOWLERS! Basic Computer skills and some experience in filing your own tax returns are important, along with a willingness to make a significant time commitment to this worthy effort. Training is provided. Mystic Valley Elder Services MVES offers a lunch program at the Malden Senior Community Center, Monday through Thursday at 12 PM and on Fridays at 11 AM. We ask that guests 60 years of age and over make a confidential donation of $2 towards the cost of their meal. Other guests will be charged $3.50 for their meal. There are a few exceptions, so please see the meal site coordinator if you have any questions. To make a lunch reservation, please call the main office at and ask to be transferred to the kitchen.
