1 Flight Captain: Joe Fitzpatrick Vice Flt. Capt: Bob Norman Adjutant: Walt Dietrich Treasurer: Chris Goff Provost ********************************************************************************************************************************* Marshall: Dave Devendorf CFIP: Steve Borden Page 1 of 7 Flight Captain s Corner The entire Flight was saddened to learn of the passing of Colonel (ret) Charlie McGugan, who made his last flight on Saturday, March 26th. Charlie was proud of his three + decades serving his country thru 3 wars. He was happy to call himself a World War II B-26 pilot, so much so his was "b26charlie". Charlie was a Life member of the Daedalians for thirty years. Most may not know this, but Charlie was the driving force behind our flag recognition program, having a flag flown over the US Capitol in honor of a member's 90th birthday. Charlie pushed for a flag for our first recipient, the late Maj Gen Strait, Charlie was our 3rd flag recipient. To date we have presented 8 flags. I will miss Charlie telling his stories of worldly travels and cruising on the high seas. His funeral was held on March 31st attended by members of the flight...god Speed B-26 pilot Charlie! At our March meeting we were honored to have the Golden Knight Commander, LTC Matt Weinrich, speak to us about the risk and rewards of his unit. He had a good point, at airshows this is normally the first and possibly the only time families will ever meet a soldier, his soldiers play an important role recruiting for all our services. Don't forget our June meeting has been slipped a week till June 30th so we can have Deborah Hersman tell about safety initiatives under way at the National Safety Council. This meeting is for spouses and significant others. month and the other reaching out to non-active and non-affiliated Daedalians. Please take some time to read them. Our April program will be a potpourri of topics, we will present our college AFROTC scholarship winner with a check from the Flight, we'll introduce our 2016 CFIP high JROTC cadet, and I will brief the flight on the proposals out of the National's membership meeting. Once again I'll miss a meeting, in May, this time the grandsons are calling us back again to Bangkok; this meeting will have past National Commander Lt Gen Nick Kehoe attend and tell us about the amendment proposals. I'll be back in time for our June meeting. Don t miss it! While at the membership meeting the flight was selected as a Jimmy Doolittle Distinguished Flight Award for I was honored to accept it on behalf of all our flight members. Our flight was very active in all the grading criteria categories, each one of you should be very proud of your contribution to getting this award. Finally, we have several members who cannot attend our meetings for a number of reasons, all of us should try to reach out and call or if you have time visit them. If you need more info, drop Walt Dietrich a note he has a list of locations and contact tel #s Volabamus - Volamus Joe I've written a separate several paragraphs under our NOTAM section toward the end of the Newsletter, one on the membership meeting at National last Apr 28 th May 26 th Jun 30th Aug 25 th Sep 22 nd Oct 27 th

March Meeting Our meeting had 17 members attending along with three guests and our guest speaker. The Flight Captain reviewed the status of our 2016 CFIP program. He discussed the status on disposition of our flight's memorabilia. Our guest speaker, LTC Matt Weinrich, Commander of the Golden Knights TEAM spoke about the mission they have to represent the US Army and soldier to the American public. In addition, they test and evaluate new jump equipment for the Army and then demonstrate and transfer the equipment to the special operators for employment in their missions. He told us the TEAM selection process and the tour lengths on the TEAM. All of us should be proud of the soldiers who have jumped or will jump into combat to protect the freedoms of this Nation. 3 NOTAMS 50/50 Drawing The March drawing generated $48.00 for the Flight meaning our winner, Flight Captain Joe Fitzpatrick won $ The cost of each ticket is only $5.00. Cadet Flight Indoctrination Program (CFIP) Pinecrest High School Air Force Junior ROTC Cadet John Hall was selected as our 2016 CFIP student. The Flight and National will support him through his solo flight. He will attend our April meeting. AFROTC Matching Scholarship NC State Air Force ROTC Cadet Kyle Oldenburg will attend the April meeting to receive his $1,000 check from the flight. National also matched it and has added an additional $ on top of it. National Membership Meeting The membership meeting to say the least was very interesting, I have a copy of the slides I'll go thru at the April meeting. The proposals discussed are very broad and a membership vote will take place toward at the end of May for 6 weeks ending 4 th of July. It is important that you vote and let your voice be heard in favor or not. Please go to the Daedalians website to see all that took place at the meeting at Lt Gen Nick Kehoe, past Commander, will present a briefing on the proposals to us at our May meeting. He is also briefing it at Kitty Hawk Flight, Seymour Johnson, at their monthly meeting on 14 April, if you are interested in attending please drop Bill Allgaier an , he's the Asst. Adjutant at allgaier@suddenlink.net Non Active---Non Affiliated Members From the Daedalian Apollo website I downloaded names of non-active...non-affiliated members who live within 75 miles of our flight. A word of caution, the list isn't completely accurate; some names are affiliated with our flight and Kitty Hawk. But the majority are waiting to be asked to come to a meeting. The 105 names, listed at the end of the Newsletter are listed by towns, so if you have a neighbor who is a member reach out to them and bring them to a meeting.
