1 Connections logo under construction July 11, 2016 Staff Pause and Reflect on this moment in time Last week, a new feature was introduced at both hospitals: signature boards to mark this important moment in time. The integration of Skagit Regional Health with Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics will forever be part of our collective history. These boards are an opportunity to pause and reflect, encouraging staff to leave a positive message or just sign their name. Later this week, the boards will switch locations. The messages and aspirations you leave on the board this week will hang in the café or bistro of the partner location. It s a great opportunity to exchange well wishes and hopes for our future partnership. Jerry Vanney and Kara Blumm from Cascade Valley Hospital were the first to sign their board. Pause Reflect Connect Moving in continues at new Business Center Departments continue to move in to the new Skagit Regional Health Business Center in Mount Vernon. This week, Quality Management, the Skagit Regional Health Business Office and Finance Department will all be moved by Wednesday. When all moves have been completed, the departments located in the Business Center will include Human Resources, Risk Management, Performance Improvement, Insurance Verification, SRC Business Office, SRC Downtown Business Office, SVH Business Office Finance, Revenue Cycle, Quality Management and Information Services. Additional details about the Business Center can be found on page 4, including contact information and visitor hours. Business Center Open House September 12, 2016
2 Vaccination Clinics Call to schedule SRC Pediatrics is holding Saturday vaccination clinics for established patients who are up-to-date on their well-child checks, but need immunizations before school starts in the fall. Appointments are available on July 23, August 6 and August 20. Call to schedule. U.S. Representative Rick Larsen visits Cascade Valley Hospital U.S. Representative Rick Larsen spent the morning in Arlington recently, and stopped by Cascade Valley Hospital for a quick visit. While there, Rep. Larsen took time to talk with a few of the dedicated volunteers. He got a tour of the Emergency Department from former Darrington Mayor Jim Rankin, shown above. Rankin talked at length about his role in the Emergency Department and showed Rep. Larsen some of the features and technology in the patient rooms. Summer Book Club is Under Way The summer Book Club has begun meeting in the San Juan Room for brown bag lunch discussions. The club meets at noon, with future discussions scheduled for August 1 and September 1. The Book Club is reading the best-selling book Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, a practicing surgeon. In Being Mortal, Gawande looks at his profession and examines it s ultimate limitations and failures in his own practice as well as others - as life draws to a close. This book sparked insightful conversation at the first meeting, held July 1. Contact Gretchen Cohan for more information. Rep. Larsen was in town to learn more about the Arlington High School Transitions program, which encourages students with disabilities to volunteer and get into the workforce. Cascade Valley Hospital has an employee, James Wilson, who started as a volunteer in this program while he was in high school. After four years, leadership at the hospital worked with his family and community partnerships to bring James onboard as a part-time employee in the kitchen. He now works as a dishwasher 10 hours per week. James has the support of a job coach, the Transition Program, his family and the staff at Cascade Valley. The staff really helps him to be successful, said Jola Barnett, Assistant Administrator. Kudos to the Darrington Clinic team A patient at the Darrington Clinic called in to let the staff know that he was following a healthy regimen, walking every day and has cut way back on smoking and is noticing a huge improvement. He wanted the thank the staff who assisted him on a Friday for taking care of his medications and wanted to thank all of us for being us and making him feel like a person and not just a herd. Thank you to the Darrington Clinic team for providing a great patient experience! 2

6 Connections is your resource for updates and information about this transformational implementation project Pictured left to right, back row: Kathie Schroeder, Michael DeBlasi, Michael Storlie, John Dwight, Karl Stansbury, Talitha Ozechowski. Front: Lisa Buller, Scott Meyers. begun pouring the foundation and hammering nails, following the blueprint developed by Skagit Regional Health providers and staff. What happens next? The Build kick-off is an exciting benchmark, so now we move onto Clinical Content Design. Back to the house-building analogy, we begin selecting fixtures and fine tuning the details of the house. Clinical Content Design allows providers, nurses, and clinical services/departments who document in the EHR to review key components of the documentation tools such as notes and narrators, orders and charging, flowsheets, and patient review. Decisions coming out of these meetings will go back to the build team, directing their work in those areas. Skagit Regional Health breaks ground on the Electronic Health Record Last week, IS analysts and Epic representatives gathered in the Garden Space at Skagit Valley Hospital to kick off the application build portion of the EHR project. IS Leadership geared up their teams with LEGO themed trivia, construction outfits, and always important doughnuts. It was a lively precursor to the challenging and intricate work ahead. What does this mean? During the June Direction sessions, over 950 decisions were made regarding workflows and configurations inside the new EHR system. All of those decisions were documented and the blueprint for the Epic Foundation system was adjusted. Similar to building a house, this event was the metaphorical ground breaking for analysts to begin building the system. Our analysts have Move to Business Center Many of the IS teams are moving to the business center, where they will have access to 3 new classrooms for future legacy and Epic Trainings with full HD video and audio conferencing. Stay tuned for updates on EHR training opportunities! Stay Informed Regular updates in Connections Look for s with EHR and Epic in the subject line Send questions to epicprojectteam@skagitregionalhealth.org Coming Soon Coming in August, an EHR Project website inside the SRH and CVH intranet systems. This will be to go-to spot for training information, FAQ s, and project updates.
