1 August 22, 2016 Patient Testimonial from the Skagit Valley Kidney Center I just wanted to say Thank you again for everything you do. It is an amazing and difficult job that you have. I know we as patients as a whole tend to be on an emotional roller coaster.. so thank you for always listening and helping. I am excited to start my training today but will miss all of you soo much. I did a Facebook post on Saturday after my last treatment and one of my friends after reading it said she hoped that you guys would get to see it to know how I felt. So I figured I would send it to you and you could maybe share it with Debbie and the rest of the staff if you feel its appropriate. I will never be able to adequately express everything my time at the center has done for me. Just please know that each and everyone of you helped me, taught me and encouraged me every single day and I could never begin to repay you for that. Just know I will always be grateful for the care I received there. This program is developed by expert surgical nurse-authors and is a comprehensive, online education program based on Association of peri-operating Room Nurses (AORN) evidence-based Guidelines for Perioperative Practice. This program is designed for : a) novice perioperative nurses, b) nurses who did not have a formal, didactic education to improve their patient assessment, decision-making, and clinical reasoning skills and c) the entire OR nursing staff for consistency and to aid in prevention of potential risk issues. Mina Bertels also completed the National Surgical Technologist Certification. Surgical technologists work under the supervision of an RN or surgeon to facilitate the safe and effective conduct of invasive surgical procedures, ensuring that the operating room environment is safe, that equipment functions properly, and that the operative procedure is conducted under conditions that maximize patient safety. The Surgical Technologist will sit for a national certification test that encompasses theory and application of sterile and aseptic technique, human anatomy and surgical procedures. This certification is a testament to the hard working and knowledge base of these critical members of the Surgical Arena. Appointments can be made by calling Summer Book Club is under way The summer Book Club will meet in the San Juan Room for brown bag lunch discussions on September 1 at noon. The Book Club is reading the best-selling book Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, a practicing surgeon. In Being Mortal, Gawande looks at his profession and examines it s ultimate limitations and failures in his own practice as well as others - as life draws to a close. 4 3rd Annual Anacortes Open Streets The 3 rd Annual Anacortes Open Streets will be happening on August 28, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Anacortes. This is the day that downtown is cleared of cars and opened to bicyclists, walkers, strollers, and skaters non-motorized movers of all types. This year s event promises to be bigger, more inclusive and more entertaining than ever. Downtown businesses and restaurants will be open There will be a variety of displays, demonstrations and informational booths A number of street performers will be at several locations throughout the Open Streets route. Several donated pianos that have been painted by local artists and placed at downtown venues for anyone to stop and play as the mood may strike them. Jeans are allowed on Fridays and, as with all clothing, must be clean and in good repair. However, when planning your Friday wardrobe, please continue to observe the rest of the SRH dress code (no t-shirts, t- shirts with slogans, sports, etc.) unless a special sports -theme day is announced. Holiday Greeting Card Contest The Skagit Valley Hospital Foundation calls professional and hobby artists of our region to submit a digital image of original artwork - thematic of the season or Christmas holiday - for the Foundation s annual year-end holiday greeting card. The winning artist will receive a $100 honorarium for use of their artwork. Deadline is Sept. 19, Employees can celebrate their favorite football team with a jersey or logo t-shirt on Fridays between August 26 and the Super Bowl in February. 5 Skagit Regional Health -- Cascade Valley Hospital and Clinics Integration Update Volume 1, Issue 20 August 22, 2016 EPSI Budgeting software training happens in September at Skagit and Cascade Training on EPSi Budgeting software is mandatory for all Operational Managers and Directors. Training is offered at Skagit Valley Hospital and Cascade Valley Hospital locations simultaneously. You may choose to attend any one of the training sessions mentioned below. Each class will last for an hour and a half. Sign up for the classes will be handled through mynetlearning. Training Information: You may choose any location, session date and time that fits into your schedule. 6 Connections is your resource for updates and information about this transformational implementation project What s the latest in the EHR Implementation? In mid-august, the first round of Adoption Sessions took place. Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) from across the organization met to evaluate the EHR system build and provide feedback. This is similar to checking in with the architect a few weeks into construction on a new house. It is important to meet throughout the build to confirm that the structure looks and operates as expected. 61 sessions were held and 101 workflows were presented for adoption. The next round of Adoption Sessions take place in October. What else is going on? Clinical Content Design sessions for August were completed last week. Clinical Content Design is where providers assemble by specialty to develop standard content for the EHR system. This content is then built in the system and validated with clinicians. Clinical Content Design sessions will continue to take place through the end of the year, usually in two week blocks of time. What about tech support for non-ehr issues? There are a lot of changes in the IS department, so the people you used to call for help may be working on different projects now.
