Meeting was called to order at 10:14am. Present at the meeting : Patricia Cohen, Carol Atkins, Jean Griffin, Dawn Clay (2015 Member at Large), Georgia Pettigrew (2015 Treasurer), Keisha Franks (2015 President Elect), and Dana Lingerfelt (via phone 2015 secretary). We all agreed that the Saturday meeting at Piedmont was a big hit. The board believes that having meetings on Saturday will boost our membership. We secured the dates for next year s meeting, which have been posted on the Facebook page. We all voted that we need a new board member. We created a new position to help us with chapter outreach and membership. We all decided we need a social media/it specialist to help the chapter navigate new marketing strategies, and to help us with the ability to offer chapter meetings online. Carol Atkins will officially take over as President of the Atlanta Chapter of GAPAN. Dawn Clay will become the administrator of the Atlanta Chapter of GAPAN s Facebook page. The meeting was adjourned at 12:00 pm.

Breakfast was provided. Forty two nurses attended from area facilities: Atlanta Medical Center, CHOA, Emory Midtown Hospital, Emory Main Campus Hospital, Piedmont Hospital Atlanta, Piedmont Hospital Fayetteville, St Joseph Hospital, Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. President Patty Cohen opened business Meeting at 9:00AM. This is the first meeting on the new schedule with Atlanta District meetings on Saturday morning. The plan is to continue this change. Secretary s report and Treasure s report were available. Keisha Franks gave report of the 2014 ASPAN National Conference and of the Representative Assembly where a vote passed requiring a minimum of BSN for PACU nurses by GAPAN won the Shining Star Award, and the GAPAN Newsletter Award for the page category. As the state of Georgia will require CEUs to renew nurse s license beginning 2016, upcoming educational offerings were announced. ASPAN Summer/Fall Seminar at The Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon will be September 6, offering 7.25 contact hours. LDI, for leadership development, with be held in Ashville, TN the same weekend. The GAPAN 2014 State Seminar is in Augusta, GA on September
6 Election of officers was held. Newly elected officers are: Presidentelect, Keisha Franks, Secretary, Dana Lingerfelt, Treasurer, Georgia Pettegrew, and Member at Large, Dawn Clay. Educational Offering: Speakers introduced by Dana Lingerfelt. Paul Evelyn, CRNA presented To Reverse or Not to Reverse that is the Question, Reversal Agents in the OR/PACU Dr. Saeid Khansarinia presented The VATS Procedure 2 contact hours were awarded. Officers meeting followed adjournment.
7 GAPAN Atlanta District Officers Meeting June 7, 2014, following Saturday Morning District meeting Piedmont Hospital. Attended by current and newly elected officers Patty Cohen, Carol Atkins, Keisha Franks, Ann Gray Dana Lingerfelt, Jean Griffin, Georgia Pettigrew, Dawn Clay, and Nancy Wong Tse. It was discussed and decided to continue Atlanta District meetings on Saturday mornings. Noted that the attendance of 42 nurses is the largest in a long time. Plan for 8:30 breakfast, 9:00 meeting start, box lunch, and meeting over by 1:30 or 2:00pm. Dates for future meetings are: Oct 25, 2014, hosted by Northside and Wellstar Kennestone. February 28, 2015 June 6, 2015 October 24, 2015 Due to the difficulty of arranging for CEUs and the high cost, it was decided to investigate offering Contact Hours instead. Jean Griffin and Carol Atkins will work on this. The next Atlanta District officers meeting will be held in August or at the State Conference in Augusta, Sept 12 14, 2014 Ann Gray, Secretary

Light evening meal was provided. Thirty four nurses attended from area facilities: Atlanta Medical, CDC, CHOA, Emory Main Campus, Emory Midtown, Gwinnett NE Metro, Northside Hospital, Piedmont Hospital, Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. Business meeting opened by State President Keisha Franks at 6:30 PM as President Patty Cohen was unable to attend. The annual ASPN National Conference is April 27 May1 in Las Vegas, NV. Ann Gray has applied for scholarship money to attend, and is awarded the scholarship. No other application was received,. GAPAN has several different scholarships available including for students. The web site has information. Join GAPAN at ASPAN.org. Carol Atkins, Atlanta District President Elect, will attend the ASPAN Conference as President Patty Cohen is unable to attend. Patty Cohen has reported that results from the Surveymonkey question whether to change meetings to another schedule found that members prefer Saturday morning quarterly with more CEU speakers. Also there is interest in reviving the Spring Fling/ Summer Sizzler annual Saturday educational event. In 2016 the state begins to require CEUs for RNs. The May meeting with election of treasurer and secretary will be hosted by Piedmont Hospital. Treasurer's report given by Jean Griffin, Current balance provided. Secretary s report read by Ann Gray, and approved. Educational Speakers were introduced by Janet Standen at 7: 00 PM. Dr Carol Gray presented: Effective Nursing Management of Hemodialysis Access Jessica Scott PA presented: Surgical Interventions for Spinal Tumors Two contact hours were awards for the educational portion of the meeting.

Twenty one nurses were in attendance. A light supper was provided Business meeting was conducted by Nancy Wong Tse beginning at 6:30 PM. On March 2 nd, the GAPAN State Board Meeting was held in Madison, GA. At this meeting, our GAPAN State President, Janice Wilson presented the proclamation for PANAW signed by Governor Nathan Deal. Keisha Franks, spoke on scholarship opportunities, Gold Leaf awards, and importance that GAPAN members inform her of charitable activities their units have done. Congratulations to Jean Griffin for winning the national scholarship to attend ASPAN s conference. Representatives from Dekalb, Emory, Kennestone, Piedmont, and Children s Healthcare will be attending the National Conference in Chicago, IL. Nancy Wong Tse distributed gifts recognizing certified nurses. National Certified Nurses Day is March 19, If anyone is interested in applying to state conference scholarship, please submit before/on/by next meeting in May. Nancy Wong Tse read minutes from January meeting. She also gave an update on the treasurer report. Dana Lingerfelt, reports that GAPAN state members number 357. She is working to keep the list current. She has a new address. Elections for office of district president elect will be at the May meeting. If anyone is interes ted in running for any district or state office please let Nancy or Keisha know. Also, if anyone is interested in hosting a meeting, please let us know. Floor was open for questions and comments. May 13, 2013 is our next meeting. It will be hosted by Kennestone Regional Medical Center at the Wellstar Development Center. Please remember to RSVP. Handout were provided of the meeting agenda, officer contact information, and dates of future meetings. Treasurer's report given by Jean Griffin. Dana Lingerfelt, RN, BSN, CPAN, our Member at Large, talked about getting new members especially younger nurses in the units. She had membership information and application forms for the hospitals to take back to their units. The Atlanta District currently has 146 members. Nancy Wong Tse talked about the Atlanta District Goals for which are in alignment with GAPAN goals. Keisha Franks gave a report of the state meeting, and the "Get a member campaign". Special recognition was given to Linda Bolten by Brenda Splawn and Dana Lingerfelt. Linda has served the Atlanta District for many years and is now retiring from nursing. A gift was presented to her. Educational Speakers from Northside Hospital were Dr. Mike Ashmore on TAP Blocks and Dr. Ward Reed on Hyerbaric Medicine for Peri Operative Nursing. The January 14, 2013 meeting will be hosted by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and will be held at Scottish Rite Hospital.

Keisha Franks RN CPAN called the meeting to order at 19:44. Keisha thanked the GPAN community for their support during her tenure as president. Then Keisha introduced the running members for tonight s election. Jeanette Lang RN BSN CPAN explained that WellStar Cobb Hospital would sponsor the Summer Sizzler July 28, There will be 4 contact hours available and breakfast will be served. Lunch will be on your own. Patty Cohen RN MSN read the minutes for the MARCH meeting, Linda Bolton RN acknowledged that the GPAN by laws were not on the GPAN website as mention in the minutes. The minutes were then approved. Jean Griffen RN provided the treasurer s report and stated that there was a balance of $ The Grady Health System team introduced the evening s speakers. Dr s Arora and Wilson spoke about epidural anesthesia and damage control surgery. Two contact hours were distributed to participants. Elections were held. The new board members include Nancy Wong-Tse RN CPAN as President, Patricia Cohen RN MSN as president elect, Ann Gray BSN CPAN as secretary, Dana Lingerfelt RN MSEd CPAN as member at large and Jean Griffen RN will remain as treasurer. The meeting was adjourned at 21:15.
17 January 9, 2012 Atlanta District GAPAN Meeting hosted by Wellstar Kennestone Hospital Sign in sheets and evaluations of speakers were handed out before the meeting. In celebration of PANAW week, bags pins and raffle tickets were distributed. Non-members paid $15.00 for dinner and 2 contact hours. An Italian Restaurant selected by Dana Lingerfelt catered dinner. John Anderson, an Atrium Representative, sponsored the dinner. Keisha Franks Atlanta District GAPAN President, called the meeting to order at 6:37pm. Keisha recognized new members of GAPAN and encouraged everyone to recruit new people to join the organization. Benefits include journals, discount to conferences, examinations and networking. The revised laws and policies can be found on the website. Members were encouraged to attend the state conferences, national conferences and apply for scholarships. We were given a 2-week extension to submit for scholarship towards the national convention. Keisha and Nancy attended the Retreat at Rock Eagle. This retreat is open to everyone. Minutes from November meeting ready by Nancy Wong-Tse and approved. Treasurer s report given by Jean Griffin. Keisha Franks introduced Dr. Ward. Houck. Dr. Houck spoke on Video Assisted Thoracic Surgery. John Anderson provided a demonstration of the Atrium chest tube. Afterwards, Keisha introduced Dr. Kevin Windom who spoke on Transitioning from Open Laparotomy to Minimally Invasive Surgery Using New Technologies. 18 November 14, 2011 Atlantic District GAPAN Meeting hosted by Northside Hospital Sign in sheets and evaluations of speakers were handed out before the meeting. Forms for willingness to serve at the Summer Sizzler and at the State Conference were distributed. Also, the meeting dates were distributed. Wraps and Chips were served for dinner. Keisha Franks Atlanta District GAPAN President called the meeting to order at 6:42pm. Keisha introduced the Atlanta District Board members: Jean Griffin Treasurer, Patty Cohen is training to be our incoming Secretary from Nancy Wong-Tse, Dana Lingerfelt Member at large, and Jeanette Lang Georgia GAPAN State President. Keisha recapped the Atlanta District Board meetings. The Atlanta District GAPAN bylaws were revised. Copies are found on the website. There are scholarships for students going to become RNs, RNs obtaining a higher degree and registration fee for state and national conferences. In regards to our budget, it was decided to charge a $15.00 fee for non-gapan members at our meetings. This fee includes dinner and 2 contact hours. Please be sure to RSVP. Forms for willingness to serve were distributed for our Summer Sizzler and for the State Conference. Keisha expressed concerns for membership and recruitment of members. Gold Leaf Award Members were encouraged to perform community service for this award. Dana Lingerfelt has handed out a list of items needed to be collected for a food drive. Dana and Keisha decided to pick up the boxes from each hospital s representative. The deadline for collection was set for December 11, Lindy Ramos suggested visiting juveniles and distributing lunch to them. Jeanette Lang suggested a blood mobile for the summer sizzler. Linda Bolton suggested a project that Northside was already participating in Community Connection with the donation of phones. Children s Healthcare had a Christmas in July at their hospital. Now they are collecting for Women s Resources. Please send any Gold Leaf service to Linda Bolton. This will be complied at the January State Board meeting for submission to National. Nancy Wong-Tse read the minutes from June 6, Pat Bleistine, won the CAPA pin. Jeanette Lang won the CPAN pin. Pam Marris won a 1-year membership to ASPAN/GAPAN. Linda Bolton introduced our speakers. DebbieSpamer helped to obtain the 2 contact hours. Brenda Spawn introduced Dr. Mogelnicki. Dr. Mogelnicki spoke on Postoperative Blindness after Spinal Surgery. Linda introduced the second speaker, Charly Beasley from I-Flow Corporation. He spoke on Continuous Peripheral Nerve Blocks. 2 contact hours were awarded. Meeting was adjourned at 9pm.

21 ATLANTA DISTRICT REPORT January 23, 1010 On November 11, 2009, the Atlanta Chapter of GAPAN met at Gwinnett Medical Center, Duluth. We had 37 attending including the Chief Nursing Officer of GMCD. The business meeting and dinner was at 6:30 pm. Minutes and Treasurers report were given with approximately $ in the treasury. It was proposed and voted on to move the Spring Fling from April to July. It will be brought before the group again at the next meeting for consideration by those attendees. Our dinner was barbecue, Brunswick stew with lots of tasty desserts. Our speakers provided informative lectures on Hamstring Reimplantation and Obstructive Sleep Apnea in the Perioperative Patient. Two contact hours were awarded. On January 11 th we met at the Wellstar Development Center and the meeting was sponsored by Cobb Medical Center. We had 38 attendees. We had a blow out meeting celebrating PANAW week. Many door prizes and gifts were given to the members as well as a PANAW tote bag, pen and lapel pin to every member attending. PANAW posters were given to each hospital represented with 2 posters to going to Cobb for having the most members in attendance. We had a brief business meeting, the Treasurers report revealed approximately $ was spent on the PANAW week festivities. A proposal was made to donate $ to the newly formed North East Georgia Chapter to help them get up and running. However a counter proposal was made to increase the amount to $250,00 and unanimously approved. Also tote bags, pens and lapel pins along with a PANAW poster will be given to the officers at the up coming GAPAN Board retreat at Camp Calvin. It was again proposed to move the Spring Fling to July with an approving vote. Toni Johnson will chair that committee. Speakers were Carmen Simmons, CRNA whose topic was Anesthesia 101 and Lindy Ramos, RN, CPAN who spoke on Malignant Hyperthermia. 2 contact hours were awarded. 22 ATLANTA DISTRICT REPORT JULY 11, 2009 In May new officers were elected to serve from May 2009-May They are: Linda Bolton, RN, CPAN President Keisha Franks, RN, BSN, CPAN, President Elect/Vice President Ann Gray, RN, BSN, CPAN Secretary Jeannette Lang, RN, BSN, CPAN, Treasurer Dana Lingerfelt, RN, BSN, CPAN, Membership Chair Wanda Sparks, RN, BSN, CPAN, Legislative Chair We also activated several committees and appointed Chairmen. Our PANAW week committee is headed by Mary Ann Cornwall; Spring Fling Committee is chaired by Toni Johnson, Membership by Dana Lingerfelt and Program committee by Keisha Franks. We brought items to donate to a home being developed for homeless women in the Marietta. Dana Lingerfelt is coordinating this. We hope to make it an ongoing project. This should help with our GAPAN Gold Leaf application. We had approximately 35 members in attendance. Our speakers provided informative lectures on Wound Care and prevention, staging reimbursement issues and treatment using wound vacs. Our second speaker addressed Our Aching Feet! Covering issues related to nurses being on their feet most of their shifts and also foot care for our patients undergoing foot procedures. 2 contact hours were awarded. Thanks you gifts were given to Starla Adamson our outgoing President and also Dana Lingerfelt the past President of In June the officers had their first Board meeting. We reviewed everyone s job description, making additions and clarifying some weak points. We also reviewed the Atlanta Bylaws and made some changes. The most notable change being to hold meetings every other month year round. We currently have a 6 month hiatus from May until November and it was felt this was to lengthy a period and did not allow members enough opportunities to meet the criteria for the various awards we offer. We will begin in August 09 and plan to have one more meeting before November and then get on our regular schedule. We also added job descriptions for Membership Chair and Legislative Chair. Meeting at 6:30-7:00 pm- Membership Meeting 7:00-9:00 pm Guest Speakers TBA Thank you, Starla Adamson Meetings: We met the 2nd Monday in the months of November, January, March, and May. The Outpatient Surgery PACU at Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth hosted the November meeting. 24 nurses attended. We enjoyed bar-b-que with all the trimmings. Our speakers included an endocinologist and a plastic surgeon. Each lectured on very interesting information and current updates in each field. WellStar Cobb Hospital PACU hosted the January meeting. All enjoyed a wonderful Italian-styled dinner. 53 RN's attended, our largest meeting ever. The guest speaker presented skills for improvement in communication. Our host hospital for the March meeting will be Northside, WellStar Kennestone Hospital will host in May.
25 Miscellaneous: Currently we are planning a "Spring Fling", a one-day educational opportunity for perianesthesia nurses. It will take place at the WellStar Windy Hill Development Cener in Marietta, GA. Brochures will be mailed to all district members. My main goal as president of the Atlanta District for is to increase awareness of GAPAN. Each Atlanta District offer has been assigned 2-3 hospitals in the district. Flyers are sent announcing meetings approximately one month in advance. Linda Bolton, our secretary is coordinating printing of shirts with the GAPAN logo. Information will be presented at the March meeting and orders taken. Plans to wear them at the state seminar. It was suggested that we sell the shirts at the state seminar.
