This exciting opportunity has arisen at the Lancaster campus, in sight of the Lake District fells, and offers a career average pension scheme and generous annual leave entitlement of 35 days per year. The post holder will be expected to contribute to field specific modules and give a mental health perspective in generic modules. Members of the Learning Disability Nursing team have responsibility, along with other colleagues for teaching, student support, practice learning, enhancing the current programme and contributing to the new curriculum for the BSc in Learning Disability Nursing (Hons) due for revalidation in preparation for You must hold current professional registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Council and must have clinical experience gained from working in a learning disabilities nursing setting. You must ideally be studying towards, or have completed a higher level degree. Please note that the post will commence after 01 September Department The Department of Nursing, Health and Professional Practice is a diverse department consisting of a number of teams of healthcare professionals. Programmes are offered to students in the four fields of nursing, continuous professional development, midwifery, paramedic practice and primary care as well as counselling and advanced practice. The department has a growing research profile and staff with a wide range of practice experience which informs the teaching of both profession specific and interprofessional programme content. 2 UNIVERSITY OF CUMBRIA JOB DESCRIPTION Post: Department: Grade: Location: Responsible to: Lecturer in Learning Disability Nursing, 1.0 fte Nursing, Health and Professional Practice 07/Ac2 (pro rata) Lancaster Principal Lecturer Job Purpose: To work as part of a team developing and delivering high quality academic provision through implementation of teaching and learning, widening participation and other strategies in order to contribute to the provision of high quality learning opportunities and the best possible student experience. To engage in scholarly activity and knowledge transfer activities. Other Conditions: As senior members of the University, all staff employed at grades GR07 09: are expected to work such hours as are reasonably necessary in order to fulfil the duties and responsibilities of the role; may be required to work such additional/different hours as may from time to time be necessary for the proper and efficient discharge of his or her duties which may include evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays. The postholder may be required to travel between the different campuses and sites of the University. The University makes use of videoconference facilities to minimise travel wherever possible. The postholder is appointed to the staff of the University, and although initially deployed to a specific service/school, may be required, subject to appropriate consultation, to work in suitable posts elsewhere in the University. Main Duties and Responsibilities The post of Lecturer is an important and key role providing professional and comprehensive services for the University. A high priority is given to the creation of effective working relationships between the post holder and other contacts in and outside the University as appropriate. The development and maintenance of an effective interface between University and Faculty administrative / support procedures and processes is a clear organisational goal. The Lecturer will demonstrate professionalism, technical competence, good interpersonal and networking skills and the ability to work independently as well as within a team. The post holder will at all times operate within established University regulations and procedures. S/he will need understanding of and be committed to the success of a large, complex University. The principal duties and responsibilities of the postholder are outlined below based on the role profile for a Lecturer. 2

In addition to the duties listed here, the postholder is required to perform other duties which are assigned from time to time. However, such other duties will be reasonable in relation to the individual s skills, abilities and grade. 4 Post title: PERSON SPECIFICATION FOR LECTURER Lecturer in Learning Disability Nursing Department: Nursing, Health and Professional Practice Location: Lancaster Grade: 07/Ac2 Criteria Qualifications Honours Degree (or equivalent) in a subject relevant to Learning Disability Nursing. Higher Degree (or equivalent at least at Masters level) in a related area or undertaking one at present. / To be identified by: Completed or undertaking or willingness to undertake a PhD (or equivalent). Current registration as a Learning Disability Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and at least three years post registration experience. Contractual requirement to undertake a course accredited by the Higher Education Academy to meet standard two of the National Framework of professional standards for teaching and supporting learning (except where candidate has already successfully completed such a programme or has a minimum of 3 years fulltime (or equivalent part-time) teaching experience in Higher on) Experience Successful experience of teaching within the subject discipline area. Expertise Possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist knowledge in the discipline to work within established teaching programmes Ability to recognise, apply and evaluate effective learning and teaching methods within the appropriate context, making use of technology where appropriate Proficiency in the use of IT (eg Internet, and word-processing) A commitment to engage in continuing professional development and in advanced scholarly activity in order to develop area of practice through critical engagement with relevant pedagogical theory Committed to facilitating students learning Effective oral communication skills including presentational skills 4
