1 Job Description Job Title: Lecturer Community Nursing in the Home (District Nursing), Job Share/Part-time working arrangements may be considered for this post. Faculty/Department: Faculty of Health & Social Care/Department of Nursing Reporting to: Head of Department Nursing and a senior member of a relevant Research Development Group Duration: Continuing Job Family: Academic Pay Band: 8 Benchmark Profile: DBS Disclosure requirement: Yes Vacancy Reference: HS0004 Details Specific to the Post Background and Context The Department of Nursing, within the Faculty of Health and Social Care, currently delivers the Community Specialist Practitioner programme at undergraduate and postgraduate level and the Community Practice Teacher course at MSc level. The post holder will be expected, as part of an established team, to contribute to the programmes as the Community Nursing in the Home (District Nursing) pathway lead. There will also be an expectation that the post holder will contribute to the prequalifying nursing programme where required. The post holder will be expected to engage in research and will have an opportunity to contribute to the research themes within the Faculty and be involved in demonstrating research outcomes in terms of community health. Support and mentorship for early career researchers is part of the development plan for early researchers for the Faculty whilst there are clear expectations of the post holder in terms of research and scholarship. This will be done in a supportive and facilitative environment. The University supports The Concordant to Support the Career Development of Researchers and the Faculty is committed to the development in its broadest sense. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to this process through internal and external engagement with partner agencies Specific Duties and Responsibilities of the post The post holder must be a registered nurse with current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. In addition, the post holder will hold a current Specialist Practitioner Community Nursing in the Home (District Nursing) recordable qualification with the NMC. The post holder will hold an NMC recordable teaching qualification, if not, they must achieve this within 18 months of appointment. In addition, the post holder will have, at a minimum, the Nurse community practitioner Nurse prescribing qualification. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in a range of academic activities including learning and teaching, research and scholarly activity and external engagement and enterprise relevant to the business needs of the Faculty. Specifically, the successful applicant will provide the lead on District Nursing to enable students to achieve the Specialist Practitioner award in this area of practice. This will involve support of all district nursing students, academically and practically, within the clinical areas of local community partners.
2 GENERIC JOB DESCRIPTION The job duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of the role. The duties and responsibilities and the balance between the elements in the role may change or vary over time depending on the specific needs at a specific point in time or due to changing needs in the department. Candidates should note that there may not be an immediate requirement to carry out all the activities listed below. Overall Purpose of the Role This role will be carried out by individuals with extensive experience in teaching and research usually by progression from the corresponding band 7 role. Direct appointments to this level may be made where it is clear the staff have appropriate experience. At this level, role holders contribution spans scholarship, teaching, research and related administration, though the weight allocated to each of these strands will vary from role to role and from time to time for individual role holders. The role holder will: Have the ability to design and deliver course materials as well as experience and demonstrated success in delivering teaching including identifying current areas for revision and improvement Will have extensive research experience within subject specialism and conduct individual and collaborative research projects, including developing research objectives and proposals which will be advancing the state of knowledge in their particular discipline. Write individually or contribute to publications and present at conferences or other events. Will contribute to department/faculty through leadership and management and have the ability to take responsibility for effective deployment of resources, contribute to the broader management processes and have skills in managing and motivating staff. Role holders at this level will be expected to be establishing a reputation nationally and emerging reputing internationally within their academic specialism. Main Work Activities Teaching and Learning Design and deliver teaching material across a range of modules or within a subject area using appropriate teaching, learning support and assessment methods. Supervise student projects, field trips and, where appropriate, placements. Identify areas where current provision is in need of revision or improvement. Contribute to the planning, design and development of objectives and material. Set, mark and assess work and examinations and provide feedback to students. Research Develop research objectives, projects and proposals. Conduct individual or collaborative research projects. Identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds. Write or contribute to publications or disseminate research findings using other appropriate media. Make presentations at conferences or exhibit work at other appropriate events.
3 Relationships and Team working Develop and build internal and external contacts which may include: identifying sources of funding contributing to student recruitment securing student placements marketing the institution facilitating outreach work generating income obtaining consultancy projects Advise and support colleagues with less experience and advise on personal development. May be expected to supervise the work of others, for example, research teams or projects or as PhD supervisor. Act as a responsible team member and develop productive working relationships with other members of the team. Collaborate with colleagues to identify and respond to students needs. Act as programme leader/course leader/module leader. Additionally the post holder will be required to: Fulfil the employees duties described in the University s health and safety policies and co-operate with the health and safety arrangements in place within the department. May be required to undertake specific health and safety roles on request e.g. Display screen equipment assessor, departmental safety officer, fire warden etc. Show a commitment to diversity, equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practices this includes undertaking mandatory equality and diversity training. Comply with University regulations, policies and procedures.
4 Specification Essential Desirable Examples Measured by Education and Training Formal qualifications and relevant training Work Experience Ability to undertake duties of the post Skills and Knowledge Includes abilities and intellect Registered nurse with current NMC registration Current NMC recordable Community Nursing in the Home (District Nursing) specialist practitioner qualification Current Community Practice Nurse Prescribing (V100) NMC recordable teaching qualification or working towards ( requirement that this be achieved within 12 months of appointment) Evidence of Masters level study in health care related subject Evidence of: Experience within a community health care setting Experience in a leadership role within health care provision Experience of teaching and mentorship of student nurses Experience of involvement in research in health care Evidence of active contribution and influence in the following areas: Breadth and depth of community nursing Able to design, deliver and evaluate teaching and learning or training Ability to pursue research complementary to the research themes of the Faculty To promote scholarly activity in line with one of the Research Development Groups in the Faculty To participate in bids for research funding from relevant sources PhD or working towards or committed to undertaking a PhD Qualified Community Practice Teacher Nurse Independent and Supplementary Prescribing (V300) Experience in case management of chronic conditions e.g. diabetes, COPD, congestive cardiac failure or palliative care Evidence of active contribution and influence in the following areas: Experience in planning and developing new programmes Membership of editorial boards
