Efficiently manage the human, physical and financial resources within the approved budgets and program profile of the Nursing Department in consultation with the Dean. 2. Initiate and implement strategies for the development and marketing of existing and new programs in consultation with the Dean. 4. Ensure compliance with the Holmesglen Management System and the requirements of relevant external regulatory bodies. 5. Provide educational leadership across VET and higher education nursing programs. 2. Effectively and efficiently manage the human, financial and physical resources of the Department of Nursing. 3. Promote the development and maintenance of effective relationships and partnerships with industry, professional bodies and the wider community. 4. Maintain and develop cohesive teams within the Department that will ensure key objectives are met. 5. Lead on-going planning for the department, including the development of an annual Department Strategic Plan (in alignment with Faculty and Institute strategic directions). 6. Promote teaching and learning excellence through innovative delivery and assessment strategies and the 2

3 application of a student-centred approach to teaching and learning. 7. Actively support the advancement of simulation-based education and integrative teaching and learning within the Department and Faculty. 8. Ensure effective mechanisms are in place for the early identification and management of students at risk including appropriate referral of student welfare matters. 9. Initiate new programs to meet industry and community needs. 10. Under the direction of the Dean prepare an annual Program Profile (program delivery plan). 11. Under the direction of the Dean prepare an annual staffing schedule (staffing requirements). 12. Under the direction of the Dean prepare an annual salaries and non-salaries budget submission. 13. Initiate, develop and manage the delivery of fee-for-service programs in the Department. 14. Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of class and teacher timetables. 15. Manage processes within the Department to ensure the effective procurement of sufficient quality clinical placements (including active engagement with Faculty partners and state and local clinical networks). 16. Ensure the effective management of clinical placement activities. 17. Prepare statistical data and reports as required by the Dean. 18. Coordinate student selection and enrolment processes and timely resulting. 19. Liaise effectively with other Departments in the Faculty and the Institute. 20. Promote and effect change in delivery and assessment providing a more innovative and engaging student experience. 21. Promote Department courses to schools, the community, industry and other external organisations. 22. Ensure that the Department is compliant with all Holmesglen Management System processes. 23. Participate in internal and external audits (as an auditor or auditee) as required. 24. Ensure that programs comply with ANMAC accreditation requirements. 25. Coordinate the development of ANMAC accreditation 3

4 submissions (in consultation with the Dean). 26. Ensure compliance with AHPRA requirements related to delivery of Diploma and Bachelor of Nursing programs. 27. Ensure that Performance Reviews are conducted annually for all staff within the Department. 28. Prepare a Work/Staff Development Plan for each teaching staff member and review the Plan with each teaching staff member biannually. 29. Foster an environment that encourages and supports scholarship and research among academic staff (both VET and higher education). 30. Ensure currency of industry knowledge and trends is maintained by all Department teaching staff. 31. In association with the Dean, and in line with the Institute s Strategic Plan, prepare Key Result Areas for the position. Meet with the Dean on a biannual basis to discuss the progress towards meeting the objectives. 32. Act in accordance with Holmesglen Safety policies and procedures to ensure the department is compliant with OH&S legislation. 33. Establish and maintain a work environment which is free from discrimination, bullying and harassment in accordance with Institute rules and policies. 34. Lead the development of an annual Department Strategic Plan, in-line with the Faculty and Institute strategic directions. 35. Foster collaboration with other Departments within the Faculty, and across the organisation, in relation to continual improvement activities, program delivery and strategic projects. 36. Any other duties as directed and required by the Dean. Qualifications Minimum Nursing degree or equivalent. Must hold current nursing registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia / AHPRA. An approved teaching qualification or commitment to obtaining such qualification. Preferred Relevant post-graduate qualification in nursing or related area. Business management qualification. 4

5 Knowledge Demonstrated knowledge of the nursing profession and the health care industry, including current and future trends. Sound applied knowledge of the vocational and higher education sectors. Knowledge of current trends, innovation in teaching and assessment methodologies (including simulation-based education). Demonstrated understanding of the regulatory frameworks related to nursing, including course accreditation and professional registration requirements. Experience Substantial relevant teaching experience. Relevant industry experience. Relevant experience in the vocational education and training or higher education. Demonstrated experience in the: - Effective development and management of staff, resources and facilities. - Provision of advice to the community and industry. - Development and implementation of administrative procedures. - Development, implementation and co-ordination of nursing programs. - Effective stakeholder engagement. - Development and effective maintenance of key industry partnerships. Proven capacity to establish and maintain effective partnerships with key industry stakeholders. 6. Demonstrated understanding of the regulatory frameworks related to nursing practice and education, including professional registration and course accreditation requirements. 8.
