Case management and Palliative Care, when used synergistically, will improve patient symptoms, decrease length of stay, and ultimately reduce cost. 1. The discussion will examine the roles of the social worker and the nurse case manager, and develop strategies to recognize and address common conflicts that arise between the two roles. 1. Preparation strategies for the national RAC roll out will be presented, as well as proven strategies to respond to the RAC audits and the appeal process. 1. Analyze the primary denial reasons and strategies for risk reduction 3. dentify the two types of RAC audits, trends, and processes to decrease risk S e S S i o n 4 Ethics: Problems, Decisions and Dilemmas Dana Moran, MSW, CSW, LSW Director, Social Work St. Elizabeth Health Care Ft. Thomas Ft. Thomas, KY Participants will learn two theories of ethical decision making, as well as consider the values and principles involved in solving ethical dilemmas. Client self-determination will be defined and explored, and several case scenarios will allow participants to discover their personal style of addressing ethical issues, as well as learn to employ new strategies. 1. Explain the foundations for ethical decision making 2. Develop a further understanding of client self-determination 3. Discuss case scenarios that pose ethical dilemmas and their potential solutions continuing education CE Certificates will be awarded upon completion of the conference. Participants may earn up 7.8 Nursing Contact Hours (based on a 50 minute hour), and up to 6.5 Social Work Contact Hours, including 1.0 Ethics Hour(s). CE credits can be applied toward ACM Certification renewal.

5 S E S S O N 5 Recovery Audit Contractors and Medicare Christine Castelli Principal, Healthcare Division Connolly Healthcare Philadelphia, PA Co-presented with CMS Representative Connolly Consulting was awarded the contract to perform recovery audits in Region C, and this session will provide materials and game plans that can prepare you for the upcoming RAC audits. Successful RAC preparation can be accomplished through understanding the outcomes of the demonstration project, educating yourself on the medical record submission requirements, and understanding the RAC s and the provider s responsibilities throughout the entire process.
