2 Course Information Course Overview 2015 marks the 16th anniversary of The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia Annual Advanced Practice Nurse Conference. The conference course will explore timely professional topics and state of the art clinical care of children and adolescents with complex medical and behavior issues. Opportunities for professional networking will augment the didactic component of the sessions. The conference is targeted to advanced practice nurses in primary care and acute/chronic specialties. Nursing and pharmacology CEUs will be provided by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation (ANCC). Keynote Speaker Tine Hansen-Turton, M.G.A., J.D., is the leader of several national movements aimed at promoting the role of advanced practice nurses in healthcare today. She is the CEO of the National Nursing Centers Consortium, a non-profit organization supporting the growth and development of over 250 nurse-managed health centers, and serving more than 3.5 million across the country in urban and rural locations. She holds multiple leadership positions including Executive Director of Convenient Care Association, the trade group for 2,000 retail clinics serving more than 30 million, and Chief Strategy Officer for Public Health Management Corporation, where she oversees several public health initiatives. Working both locally and globally, she is a celebrated renowned speaker, publisher, executive, advocate and award recipient. Hansen-Turton is described as an effective change agent, systems-thinker, and effective health policy advocate. We are fortunate to welcome her as our keynote speaker in 2015! Course Objectives At the end of the conference the learner will: Articulate understanding of the role of an Advanced Practice Nurse in today s dynamic healthcare environment Describe clinical manifestations and diagnostic evidence for common and uncommon pediatric conditions Implement evidence-based strategies for comprehensive care of children in your practice setting Describe the health implications of societal violence and identify interventions to mitigate its effects Implement strategies to identify and reduce anxiety in the pediatric and adolescent population Nursing Accreditation This activity has been submitted to the PA State Nurses Association for approval to award contact hours. The PA State Nurses Association is accredited as an approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center s Commission on Accreditation. Registration Information Attendees may register by mail, fax or online. Please see the registration form for the mailing address, fax number and Web address. Preregistration is required; the registration deadline is Friday, April 17, Payment must accompany the registration form for it to be processed. Once registration has been processed, a confirmation letter will be mailed. If you have any questions about this conference, please call PLEASE NOTE: Your registration is not complete if you do not receive a confirmation letter. If you do not receive confirmation within 10 days of sending your registration, please contact the Continuing Medical Education Department at The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia at Registration Fee The registration fee includes continental breakfast, breaks, lunch, reception and program materials. 3 Meeting Location The conference will be held April 30 and May 1, 2015, at the Union League of Philadelphia located on Avenue of the Arts in the heart of Center City. The Union League is just 20 minutes from the Philadelphia International Airport and within walking distance of exclusive shopping, world-class restaurants, art museums and historical sites. The Union League of Philadelphia is one of the nation s most historic private clubs. The league was founded in 1862 as a patriotic society to support policies of President Abraham Lincoln during the Civil War. It has hosted U.S. presidents, heads of state, industrialists, entertainers and visiting dignitaries from around the globe. It has evolved over time to become one of the most respected institutions in the country, overwhelmingly rich in history and tradition. The classic French renaissance-styled League House, which occupies an entire city block in the center of Philadelphia s commerce and cultural district, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Dress Code at the Union League Dress Code at The Union League is business casual, which is defined as a collared shirt and slacks for men and appropriate attire for women. Jeans, other denim wear, athletic attire, T-shirts, shorts, baseball caps, or sneakers are not permitted in the Union League. Thank you. The Union League of Philadelphia 140 S. Broad St. Philadelphia, PA Hotel Accommodations The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia has reserved a block of rooms with reduced rates at The Inn at the League, 1450 Sansom St., Philadelphia, PA ( ). The Inn at the League has recently renovated, four-diamond quality hotel rooms and suites in the same building as the conference site. The group rates are $209 single and double occupancy plus a 7 percent room tax. Participants are required to make their own hotel reservations by calling the Inn directly at The special room rate will be available until Tuesday, March 31, After that date, reservations will be accepted on a space and rate availability basis. Cancellation and Refund Policy The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia reserves the right to cancel or postpone any conference due to any unforeseen circumstances. In the event of cancellation or postponement, The Children s Hospital of Philadelphia will refund registration fees, but is not responsible for any related costs, charges or expenses to participants, including cancellation charges assessed by hotels, airlines or travel agencies. In order to process refunds, cancellations must be received in writing by Friday, April 17, Refunds will be issued for the amount of registration minus a $40 administrative fee. No refunds will be issued thereafter. Services for People with Disabilities Participation by all individuals is encouraged. If arrangements are required for an individual with special needs to attend this meeting, please contact the CME Department at at least two weeks in advance so that we may provide better service to you during the conference.
