I have high regard for maintenance of Professional Standards. I have been a medical educator and am currently on RNZCUC Executive Committee. I am efficient, organised and approachable. 9

I m passionate about maintaining and improving our world class medical profession, and ensuring that all New Zealanders have access to excellent medical care. I am aware of the challenges facing doctors with fiscal pressures, and many other stressors. We also have increasing diversity in the workforce; all of which requires appropriate support to maintain a quality medical profession. In my leadership roles, both within the medical council and DHB, I am proactive in challenging processes and attitudes to drive positive change. 10
11 HIGHET, Ruth Phone: MBChB 1982, Otago Dip Obstetrics 1984, University of Otago Dip SportsMed (UK) 1986, London Hospital Medical College FACSP 1993, Australasian College of Sport & Exercise Physicians (ACSEP) FACSM 1994, American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Sport & Exercise Medicine (referral base). I have had a very stimulating 30 years in fulltime clinical sports medicine in Wellington, including 25 years supervising registrar training and several Medical Directorships of NZ sporting bodies. Sports and Exercise Medicine crosses all medical specialties enabling a huge variety of clinical experiences and professional contacts. These aspects I believe would be very advantageous as a member of the Medical Council of NZ. I have a very proactive interest in people s wellbeing and am passionate about exercise medicine and the benefits of an active lifestyle for all. If successful, I would 100% commit to the MCNZ. 11
12 HOLFORD, Samuel Phone: MBChB 2015, University of Auckland DipOMG 2017, University of Auckland Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Obstetrics and Gynaecology Registrar at Counties Manukau District Health Board; NZRDA National Executive; MCNZ multisource feedback advisory group; National RMO cost of training bipartite subcommittee; Treasurer of the Population Approach Group of Australia & New Zealand Inc. Council s role of protecting the public is a perfect avenue for improving the way we work, train, and supervise. We best serve our patients, and colleagues, by practicing at our best. I look forward to addressing diminishing training opportunities, and supporting innovations that enhance training and supervision for doctors at all stages of their career. As an RMO and NZRDA National Executive member, I have an intimate awareness of our health environment, and as a future SMO, a vested interest in policy that: supports all those concerned; is meaningful and sensible; and produces minimal box-ticking. 12
13 HULME, Katherine Phone: MBChB 2010, University of Otago BMedSci(Hons) 2008, University of Otago Vascular and Cardiothoracic Surgery (finishing), Pathology (starting). Locum in New Zealand. I always had the desire but only now the time to do justice to this important role. I believe that the Medical Council would benefit from the voice of an independent current RMO with coalface insights into the challenges we face that lead to patient risk. This year I published a booklet for new registrars because I saw the unmet need of leadership in helping more inexperienced doctors practice safely. For a broader picture I am now completing a public health qualification. I see this as an exciting opportunity to synthesise my skills and serve the public and the profession. 13
14 KARL, Kamal Phone: MBBS 1992, Bombay University, India. General Practice. Executive Board Member, Australian College of Nutritional & Environmental Medicine; Co-Chair New Zealand Society of Integrative Medicine. As a long-standing regional GP with training in environmental, nutritional and cosmetic medicine, Dr. Kamal Karl brings many years of experience to the role. He believes immigrant doctors bring a fresh perspective, and insights into facilitating primary care within the multicultural environment of NZ. Kamal is involved in training programmes for GPTP and graduating Otago University students interested in the role of nutrition in health. As a parent and grandparent, he d like to see safe, effective, evidence-based integration of primary health services, and support for doctors to achieve a worklife balance and their individual passions and goals in delivering healthcare. 14
15 LAMB, David Phone: MBBS 1975, London University FRCR 1982, Royal College of Radiologists (UK) FRANZCR 1986, Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Radiologists Radiation Oncology. SMO, Rotorua Public Hospital, Lakes DHB; Private Ophthalmology, Rotorua Eye Clinic; Medical Director, The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ. As a busy clinician I work hard to maintain my competence with ever increasing public expectations. Doctors rely on the NZMC to make sense of and manage these - not only the regulatory but also ethical. This should not however unnecessarily overburden doctors. I understand the fiduciary role of the MC. I can contribute meaningfully to its work. I also offer a broad range of governance experience. I am a Chartered Member of the NZ Institute of Directors: a director of RANZCO, the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and Medical Director of the Fred Hollows Foundation NZ. 16
17 REYNOLDS, Roger Phone: MBChB 1975 University of Otago FRACP 1983 General Medicine, Rheumatology. Consultant Physician, Middlemore Hospital; Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer, University of Auckland. As a general physician, I have the privilege of working alongside young doctors, often straight from medical school, who astound me with their knowledge, personal skills, enthusiasm and integrity. I want to ensure the profession they enter remains fit for purpose in a changing world, that the expectations we place on their shoulders is reasonable, that they are properly supported, and that they have clinical mentors who can inspire them both by the excellence of their own practice and by realistic work-life balance. The Medical Council must facilitate this through its policies and overview of training and professional standards. 17
18 SHARPE, Graham Phone: MBChB 1979, Otago FANZCA 1992 Anaesthesia. Consultant Anesthetist, Wellington Hospital; Private Practice, Wellington; Specialist Officer (part-time) RNZAMC. The medical profession faces an explosion in knowledge coupled with new technology and drugs. In the face of a modifying society, with rapidly changing values and expectations, the potential clash between patients and doctors more than ever requires sound governance and regulation of the profession. To do this, the Medical Council of New Zealand relies on medical practitioner members for judgement and wisdom based on clinical experience. I offer 30 years as a consultant anaesthetist in public and private practice, along with medicolegal and NZDF experience, as the basis of my contribution to MCNZ in this process. 18
19 SINCLAIR, Siniva Phone: MBChB 1997, Auckland MPH (Hons) 2001, Auckland FAFPHM (RACP) 2003, New Zealand Public health medicine. Public health physician, Population Health and Strategy, Counties Manukau District Health Board; Executive Board member, Pasifika Futures and Pasifika Medical Association Membership; Member, Institute of Directors and New Zealand Medical Assistance Team. A strong Medical Council is vital to assure the safety and quality of healthcare provision. I bring to this role broad experience from growing up in Papua New Guinea, training in New Zealand, and working in Samoa, the Asia-Pacific region and most recently South Auckland. As a public health physician, I see every day the difference that excellent clinicians make to people s lives. My experience in workforce development, clinical leadership and governance roles in both DHB and NGO sectors, combined with my collaborative and consultative style I believe will serve the Council well should I be elected. 19

Dear Colleague, as a Distinguished Fellow of the RNZCGP I have had the privilege to serve our members in most facets of the profession from ethics, training, standards and governance. These include roles on the NZMA, RNZCGP, National Health IT boards. I am currently a general practitioner in Auckland and maintaining an active role in Practice Accreditation and development of practice and practitioner standards. Furthermore, I continue to support and advocate for our junior doctors, equity issues and compassionate care for our patients. I would appreciate the opportunity to offer my skills and expertise to the Council. 20

General Physician & Nephrologist, MidCentral District Health Board. Kō Whakatōhea rāua kō Ngāti Porou ngā iwi. I have been privileged to serve on Council for the past three years, and am seeking a second term. As a nephrologist and physician at MidCentral DHB, past-president of NZRDA and Board member of Te ORA, I continue to believe strongly that the medical profession both serves and leads our health system. New Zealanders must remain confident that our doctors are of the highest standard, and doctors must have a Council that fosters constructive relationships across the health sector and beyond. I offer experience on Council, diverse perspectives, and continuity of service. 21

Principal at Mercury Bay Medical Centre since 1991; Deputy Chair Rural General Practice Network 2 years, secretary for 8 years before that. The combined rural population in New Zealand would create our second biggest city. I have: been a rural general practitioner for the Whitianga area for 28 years held many varied positions in the Rural General Practice Network for twelve years Represented the Royal College of General Practitioners in various forums, including six years on the Palliative Care Council I believe my services would be invaluable given the coming workforce pressures in Primary Care both urban and rural. 22
23 WOOD, Jocelyn Phone: MB BChir 1988, Cambridge University FRNZCGP 2004, Royal NZ College General Practice MA 2012, Cambridge University General Practice. Partner Nelson East Family Medical Centre; Clinical Director Primary and Community Mental Health Nelson Marlborough DHB; Member GP Council NZMA; GPEP1 Teacher RNZCGP. I am proud to be a New Zealand Doctor and am keen to contribute to our profession. I believe in the importance of professional standards, particularly given our increasingly complex system, with changing workforce demographic, working hours, and roles. I would bring enthusiasm, experience, and a pragmatic approach to this role. My convictions for a safe and effective health system have motivated me to extend beyond my practice, to health management, governance, and teaching. I am aware of the many pressures facing medical practice, and the importance of ongoing education and ensuring competency for our patients and ourselves. 23
