T prvide a patient fcused delivery f care, treatment and safe transprt fr emergency and nn emergency patients in a clinically safe and prfessinal envirnment, utilising enhanced skills and regulated best practise when required t d s, adhering at all times t the plicies and standards inherent within the Yrkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) Lcality Directr Head f Emergency Operatins Lcality Manager Clinical Supervisr Paramedic Cre Respnsibilities T treat and transprt emergency and urgent patients in accrdance with IHCD paramedic manual, JRCALC guidelines and Trust prtcls. T maintain a prfessinal level f service t the custmer in line with the cntracted perfrmance standards. T cmply with all rad safety regulatins exercising the safe use f rad traffic exemptins in emergency driving. Undertake emergency driving duties n all types f vehicles perated by the Trust, if apprpriately qualified and licensed. T ensure that all equipment prvided is kept t the highest standard and any defects r lsses are reprted immediately. T ensure that the vehicle prvided is cleaned daily and check that the vehicle is radwrthy, including fuel; water and il. Reprt any defects n the apprpriate frms. T maintain the wrkplace t a high standard f tidiness and cleanliness at all times. Als t ensure Statin and vehicle security. Maintain a prfessinal image at all times. T prvide assessment f patients, planning and implementing their care and treatment. T cntinually evaluate and give advice t patients and thers. This will include: Page 1 f 7

Handling, and administering, nn prescriptin, prescriptin and cntrlled drugs Invasive prcedures where apprpriately trained and cmpetent Surgical prcedures where apprpriately trained and cmpetent Cardiac & CVA interventins e.g. Pre hspital Thrmblysis, Advanced ECG recgnitin, FAST test pathways fr CVA and the diagnsis treatment and referral f a range f cardiac cnditins. T cmmunicate reprt and dcument the patients histry, cnditin and treatment t a full range f medical staff including clleagues, nurses, dctrs and cnsultants either n rute t r arrival at definitive care. T determine the apprpriate destinatin fr the patient t include the initiatin f treatment linked t an agreed and regulated care pathway in assciatin with ther health, mental and scial care prfessinals in cases where transprt t hspital is nt required. T take respnsibility fr the security f patients prperty during transprtatin as well as the safe handling f patients pssessins including hand ver t the apprpriate agency. T cmplete all patient and jurney dcumentatin assciated with an episde f patient care in bth electrnic and written frmat with any ther reprts the Trust deems necessary. T bserve safe practices as laid dwn within the Trust's plicies, prcedures and Trust instructins. Maintain cnfidentiality f YAS and any patient infrmatin and recrds nt withstanding the Child Prtectin and Vulnerable Adults legislatin. Ensure effective cmmunicatin t ther health and scial care prfessinals fr the benefit f the patient. T assist in majr incidents and when necessary act in an Incident Management Rle. Cmplete any dcumentatin required e.g. Patient Reprt Frms, Incident Reprts, Accident Bks r any ther reprt assciated with yur duties. Cmplete any infrmatin relating t Quality Mnitring. C-perate and/r recmmend any measures designed t imprve patient care r the efficiency f the service. T ensure that all prperty, either belnging t the Trust, patient r custmer, is transprted safely and securely at all times. C-perate with ther emergency services as required. T ensure that the required levels f equipment, cnsumables and drugs etc are maintained t required levels and stred safely and securely. Make dynamic risk assessment f the envirnment and general situatin, having due regard fr the health and safety f self and thers. Respnsible fr the safe use f the ambulance and all equipment. T ensure that planned rganisatin changes are cmmunicated psitively t apprpriate peple e.g. staff, patients and carers. T be accuntable fr the safe clinical practice applied t a patient whilst in yur care either as an individual r as a member f the crew. T cmply with the cde f cnduct as laid dwn in the Ambulance Service Basic Training Manual and the Paramedic Training Manual. Page 2 f 7

3 Cre Respnsibilities (cnt). Cmmunicatin and Wrking Relatinships T cmply with the standards f cnduct, perfrmance and ethics as laid dwn by the Health Prfessins Cuncil. T wrk shifts including weekends and public hlidays. Supply statements and attend legal prceedings as required. T attend majr incident exercises as directed by the Managers f the Trust. Administer apprpriate drugs as designated by Lcal Paramedic Steering cmmittee fr use by Registered Paramedics. Keep clear, accurate and legible recrds, reprting the relevant clinical findings, the decisins made, the infrmatin given and any drugs r treatment. Recrd where there are exceptins t, r deviatins frm, standard practice and the reasns fr ding s. All recrds must be made at the same time as the events being recrded, r as sn as pssible afterwards, using apprpriate dcumentatin. Recrds must be clear, cherent, cmprehensive, factually crrect and must maintain cnfidentiality. T maintain a satisfactry recrd f cntinuus prfessinal develpment in relatin t the Health Prfessins Cuncil. This includes maintaining yur biannual registratin. Develp wrking relatinships with clleagues within yur wn rganisatin and ther rganisatins that are prductive in terms f supprting and delivering yur wrk and that f the verall rganisatin. T ensure that planned rganisatin changes are cmmunicated psitively t apprpriate peple e.g. staff, patients and carers. T cnsult and listen t cmments frm key stakehlders (managers, staff etc) in rder t develp ways that the service culd be imprved. Identify and undertake activities t develp knwledge, skills and understanding where gaps have been identified. Supervise Trainees. Supervise Observers n an ccasinal basis. T recgnise and reprt t the apprpriate authrities any cncerns regarding Vulnerable Adult issues t include scial care and mental health. T assist in statin duties as required i.e. Cleaning vehicles, equipment Decntaminating equipment Replenishing stck Cmpleting paperwrk e.g. incident frms, plice statements, crners reprts, slicitrs statements T attend curt when required, e.g. crners, magistrates, crwn curts and give evidence r be crss-examined under ath. As a YAS NHS Trust emplyee yu may be required t wrk at r frm any f the Trust's establishments as determined by the duties f the pst which are as set ut in this current jb descriptin. This jb descriptin is nt intended t be exhaustive and it is likely that duties may be altered frm time t time in the light f changing circumstances, in discussin with the pst-hlder and where ntice will be given as per NHS Terms and Cnditins Handbk and Trust Plicy. Because f the nature f the wrk, this pst is exempt frm the prvisin (42) f the rehabilitatin f ffenders act 1974 (Exemptins) rder The pst hlder will therefre be required t apply fr a Disclsure and Barring Service (DBS) Disclsure. 5 Cnfidentiality / Data Prtectin / Freedm f Infrmatin Page 5 f 7 Individuals (including vlunteers, cntractrs and temprary wrkers) must maintain the cnfidentiality f infrmatin abut patients, staff and ther health service business in accrdance with the Data Prtectin Act1998. Individuals must nt, withut prir permissin, disclse any infrmatin regarding patients r staff. If any individual has cmmunicated any such infrmatin t an unauthrised persn that individual(s) culd be liable fr disciplinary actin which culd result in dismissal. Mrever, the Data Prtectin Act 1998 als renders an individual liable fr prsecutin in the event f unauthrised disclsure f infrmatin. Fllwing the Freedm f Infrmatin Act (FOI) 2005, individuals must apply the Trust s FOI prcedure. If an individual receives a written request fr infrmatin please send t FOI@yas.nhs.uk In additin managers have specific respnsibilities t ensure that their staff maintain the cnfidentiality and security f all infrmatin that is dealt with in the curse f perfrming their duties is in accrdance with the requirements f the Data Prtectin Act 1998 and the principles f Caldictt. Managers shuld als ensure that their staff are aware f their bligatins under legislatin such as the Freedm f Infrmatin Act 2000; Cmputer Misuse Act 1990, and that staff are updated with any changes r additins relevant t legislatin. Persnal Develpment The Trust is cmmitted t supprting the develpment f all staff. All emplyees have a respnsibility t participate in regular persnal develpment review (PDR) with their manager and t identify perfrmance standards fr the pst. As part f the PDR prcess emplyees have jint respnsibility with their line manager t identify any learning and develpment needs in rder t meet the agreed perfrmance standards. Health and Safety All individuals have a respnsibility, under the Health and Safety at Wrk Act (1974) and subsequently published regulatins, t ensure that the Trust s health and safety plicies and prcedures are cmplied with t maintain a safe wrking envirnment fr patients, visitrs and emplyees. All staff have a duty t prtect their wn health and safety and that f thers persns wh may be affected by their acts r missins. Infectin Preventin and Cntrl In additin managers have specific respnsibilities relating t health and safety activities including cnsenting t breaches; cnniving t breach legislatin r neglecting their duties under the legislatin. All individuals have a persnal bligatin t adhere t current guidance n methds t reduce healthcare-assciated infectins (HCAIs). Pst hlders must be familiar with the Trust s Infectin Preventin and Cntrl Plicies, including thse that apply t their duties, such as Hand Decntaminatin Plicy, Persnal Prtective Equipment Plicy, safe prcedures fr using aseptic techniques and safe dispsal f sharps. They must undertake mandatry training in Infectin Preventin and Cntrl and be cmpliant with all measures required by the Trust t reduce HCAIs. Risk Management All pst hlders have a respnsibility t reprt risks such as clinical and nn-clinical accidents r incidents prmptly. They are expected t be familiar with the Trust s use f risk assessments t predict and cntrl risk, as well as the incident reprting system fr learning frm mistakes and near misses in rder t imprve services. Pst hlders must als attend training identified by their manager, r stated by the Trust t be mandatry. All staff are respnsible fr undertaking scene specific r activity specific risk assessments fr nn YAS premises and reprting identified prblems t their line manager fr cnsideratin and reslutin.

6 Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults Pst hlders have a respnsibility fr safeguarding children and vulnerable adults in the curse f their daily duties and fr ensuring that they are aware f the specific duties relating t their rle. Cde f Cnduct All individuals all expected t act in accrdance with the Trust s cde f cnduct and if applicable, the cde f cnduct fr their apprpriate prfessinal bdy. In additin managers shuld act in accrdance with the principles f the NHS Cde f Cnduct fr Managers in undertaking all aspects f their rle. Smke Free Plicy The Trust perates a Smke Free Plicy which prhibits smking in the wrkplace. Emplyees are required t bserve the rules laid dwn in the plicy and failure t d s may result in disciplinary actin being taken.
