Opening prayer was conducted by Mrs Bunmi Aziaka. The meeting agenda was read out by Secretary General - Mr. Charles Oguntade READING OF THE PREVIOUS MINUTES The minutes of annual general meeting held at Aro Nigeria on the 8 th of April 2016 was read by the Secretary General global operation. 3 MATTER ARISING: Chief Shodipo gave a brief history of Ruth Idowu and update the house in the progress of her academic study at the University of Lagos. Nigeria. IAPNN continues to support Ruth Idowu with a sum of ten thousand naira every month for her upkeep and Chief OgoOluwa Bankole remained the main financial of her tuition and all other sundry. Mr. Rufus Awharitoma asked if the association as explored any possibility of Ruth Idowu having PTSD from her past trauma and both Mrs Maria Ameh and Mr. Toyin Idowu suggested that there is no need of exploring such except there are indication that Ruth Idowu may be suffering from PTSD which the symptoms would be obvious. Chief Shodipo informed the house that IAPNN conducted another updated training on aggression management and prevention in September 2016 as a follow up refresher for those that were trained in April 2016 during the 2016 conference. The refresher training was conducted by Mr Femi Duyilemi and same was well attended by members. The president stressed the need for us to further explore and how these essential training could be made mandatory for the mental health speciality and perhaps the emergency rooms where issue of aggression is more prominent, and he encouraged the house that this can only be achieved by direct collaborate with Nursing and Midwifery council Nigeria and other relevant nursing organs like the National Association of Nurses and Midwifes and Association of Psychiatric Nurses of Nigeria. Mr. Olaifa suggested that we need to do more in arguing the need for the aggression management training with the NMC. Prof Yinka Adejumo added that such important training could be introduced to higher institution of learning Universities in Nigeria and may be this could be added to a course that is been offered in post graduate study in mental health. Mr. Neele Aziaka also indicated that this training should not only be limited to members in Nigeria, that members outside Nigeria could also use this training as part of their CPD hours towards renewal of practicing registration. Mrs Bunmi Aziaka pointed out that we needed to review the level and relevant of aggression management training that we offer, she maintained that the training has to be more than a day run to justify the quality, pointed out that similar trainings around the world usually go for a 3-5 day and wonder how we could cover similar training in a day. The President rounded up this discussion by directing the education committee to consider different options of conducting the aggression management training and report back to the executive before the next conference..
10years Vision of IAPNN: Mental Health Act: Prof Joe Aina informed the house that there is an act that was passed into law in 2013 but as it is nobody knew the content of the act and there was no indication that this act is been used in any of the mental health facilities across the country or relevant government health agencies. Prof Adejumo stressed the importance of this association to find out more details about the act and be prepared to work with government and health institution in service delivery in accordance with the act. IAPNN Affiliation: Chief Shodipo reminded the house on the need to affiliate or collaborate with other organisation of like minds in Nigeria to assist IAPNN in actualising our goals and mission. Members were encouraged to suggest any credible organisation out there that could work effectively with IAPNN. Mr Charles Oguntade suggested a local organisation in Nigeria called Inspire Nurses Network Africa (INNA), he informed the house that he has been working closely with this organisation as one of the co-founder, spoke briefly about the vision of the organisation and the work she has been doing on the ground in Nigeria and he concluded by suggesting that INNA is a credible organisation that IAPNN could work with. Mrs Patience Ugbo also recommended another nurses organisation in the UK called affinity Nurse, said she has had a bit about their activities and that it may worth exploring further on potential of IAPNN affiliating with them. Prof Aina, Mrs Bosun Okuwa, Mrs Maria Ameh all suggested that National Association of Nurses and Midwife in Nigeria should be engaged, Prof Aina added that IAPNN is technically more of an affiliate with NANNM going by the definition of affiliate organisation or NANNM s website. Mr. Rufus Awharitoma asked the house to further clarify if IAPNN is a charity organisation or professional organisation just to further strengthen the argument on how we could engage with other organisation or present our profile, Mr. Toyin Idowu responded to this enquiry by reading out to the house the association mission and vision statement which was self-explanatory on the status and function of the organisation, Mr. Duyilemi also added that the organisation registration status depends on the existing law in different countries where we have registration. In conclusion Mr Babatunde Oshodi and Prof Yinka Adejumo concluded that members should submit names of like minds organisation to the executive committee for express approval.
Awards: Mr Oguntade informed the house that the organisation followed a formal open process of nomination of awardee this year and all members were given opportunity to be involved in the process of nomination of awardee, in the end five nominations were made which covers the list of available awards to be given. The list includes: Mrs Bosede Ladapo Mr Deji Odediran Award of Excellence in promoting the vision and mission of IAPNN Award of Excellence in Promoting the Vision and Mission of IAPNN. British Columbia Nurse s Union Award of Excellence in Public awareness and education in health and wellbeing. Inspire Nurses Network Africa Alhaji Abd Rafiu Adeniji Award of Excellence in Community Engagement and Wellbeing Award of Excellence in health and Leadership. The list was moved by Mrs Funke Oyewale and seconded by Mrs Bunmi Aziaka. Financial Report: Chief Shodipo reminded the house that we needed to do more and be more creative in sourcing external funding to execute our various projects and activities. The financial report was presented by Mr Tunde Oshodi- Global Financial secretary, Mr Emmanuel Olaifa North America Coordinator and Mr Jerry DuruIheoma Financial Secretary/Treasurer for Canada. Mr Emmanuel Olaifa put the current balance for USA account at $, cent, after expenses. He also mentioned that the association continues to incur $6 bank charges every month that out balance is not up to $5000 minimum. Mr Babatunde Oshodi presented the UK account with current balance of after expenses, Nigeria Account balance of 2,578, after expenses and Australia account balance to be $ after expenses. Mr. Jerry DuruIheoma presented the Canada account balance to be $ after expenses. The motion to adopt the account balance was moved by Mr. Femi Duyilemi and seconded by Mrs Bosede Ladapo.
AOB: Mr. Dele Oladoyinbo moved a motion to observe one minute silence for one of our members Miss Helen Eze from Enugu Nigeria who tragically passed away late The house observed a one minute slience in honor of Miss Helen Eze. Mrs. Bunmi Aziaka also suggested the need for the organisation to dedicate at least a page in our subsequent conference event bulletin to recognise any members that passed away. Mrs Maria raised the importance of expanding on our membership drive and promotion of subsequent conference to include members and non-members alike. She suggested we could do this by one of one promotion of the organisation with friends and colleagues and that there should be generous incentives for members that attends ant future events or conference by way of offering discounts. Mrs Bunmi Aziaka also mentioned that her suggestion above could mean another way of membership drive in a way that members feel valued when there are genuine concerns for welfare of all. Other suggestions that were raised from the floor is not to limit conference speakers to members of the organisation alone, improving on the quality and uniqueness of presentations at every conference, involving students in future conferences and active use of social and mass medias in promoting our events. Chief Shodipo suggested the need to have other activities during the year apart from our traditional annual conferences, he added that we could sponsor an event in collaboration with other affiliated organisation and this program could align with global issues like world mental health day or any other relevant worldwide or national event related to IAPNN objectives. The house agreed that IAPNN could support or sponsor projects or relevant events that align with our organisation objectives. Mr. Rufus Awharitoma also added that IAPNN could sponsor members to attend other external programs as a way of networking and boosting our profiles. Mr. Babatunde Oshodi raised the concern on the current misuse of our social media forum e.g. the WhatsApp and Facebook group page. The current trend is that members were constantly sharing information that are not relevant the objectives of having the wall and all effort to advise members to desist from this behaviour have proven very difficult and more so that most of these posts could not be filter by the administrators before they go on the wall. Mr. Rufus Awharitoma moved that the group administrator should send out a general notice to all members to desist from post irrelevant materials on the wall after which any members found violating this rule would be deleted from the group page by the administrator. The motion was supported by the whole house.
COMMUNIQUE: The communique for the 11 th Scientific conference Vancouver 2017 was presented by Mr. Charles Oguntade on behalf of the Communique drafting committee. Few correction and addition was made by the house and the and motion to adopt the communique was moved by Prof Yinka Adejumo after he thanked the committee, same was adopted by the whole house with a voice vote of yes. IAPNN 2017 Conference: Dubai UAE and Nigeria West Africa was nominated by members as a hosting venue for 2018 conference. Nigeria was disqualified based on the house resolution in the last AGM that says two conferences would be held outside Nigeria following by one in Nigeria. Dubai UAE was unanimously agreed upon by the house as the host country for 2018 conference. The Secretary General global operation was mandated to commence nomination of organising committee in annex which the membership should be drawn from all key countries where we have membership to support our local members in UAE due to their very small number. The secretary was also mandated to start communication with different region Nigeria outside Lagos or Abeokuta that could host the conference in 2019 in Nigeria. Election of Executive Members and Coordinators. Mr. Jerry DuruIheoma Vancouver Canada was appointed into the role of Financial secretary/ Treasurer for Canada. His nomination was adopted by the house and he is confirmed into a substantive executive position. All other elective positions were not vacant until Mr. Dele Oladoyinbo reminded the house on the need to constantly remind new and old members that an appointment into executive and coordinator position of this organisation is only created as an opportunity to serve and volunteer time and resources and not because of making money or self-enrichment as it was perceived during the 2016 election process held in Nigeria. The disgraceful behaviour of some members was noted in attempting to disrupt the said election process in Nigeria.
