1 The Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses 33nd CACCN ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING DRAFT MINUTES September 25, 1245 hrs. EST Enercare Centre, Toronto, ON 1. Call to Order and Welcoming Remarks The Annual General Meeting was called to order at 1245 EST by Renée Chauvin, CACCN President as there was a sufficient number of members present for quorum 2. Additions and Approval of Agenda There were no additions to the Agenda 3. Notice of the Meeting and Proxy Vote Distribution MOTION: To dispense with the reading of the Notice of Meeting Lyne Landry, Montréal Chapter Eric Bellinger, Vancouver Island Chapter No Proxy Votes were received. 4. Introductions The CACCN Board of Directors, Chapter Presidents/Designates, Journal Editor, Editorial Review Board and Chief Operating Officer were introduced to the assembly. 5. Parliamentary Rules of Order The parliamentary rules of order for speaking, timekeeping, motions and voting were provided to members prior to the meeting and with the AGM registration package. Appointment of Time Keeper Kathy Bouwmeester, Vice President/Director was appointed as timekeeper and Christine Halfkenny-Zellas appointed as Parliamentarian to ensure the meeting was completed on time and the essential business of the day was dealt with. 7. Minutes of the 32nd Annual General Meeting of the CACCN MOTION: To approve the minutes of the 32nd Annual General Meeting 2016 Karine ard, Montréal Chapter Mat Wenger, Greater Edmonton Chapter 8. Reports Renee Chauvin, President provided the following report to the assembly: Association theme of Be the Difference, has been the guiding force for the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors has worked diligently to continue to raise the profile of CACCN and to promote the Association s Mission to engage and inform Canadian Critical Care Nurses through education and networking and to provide a strong unified national identity. In the past year, the work of the Board of Directors has focused on the activities identified in the Association s Strategic Plan, and providing opportunities for members to participate, to network and to share their experience and knowledge from coast to coast. We have supported educational programming via our thirteen chapters, conferences and the use of social media and web services. The Board of Directors has continued to support the production and publication of a quality critical care nursing journal as a valuable part of our membership benefits. As well our critical care standards continue to be used by many in Canada and internationally. The work of the Board of Directors occurred via correspondence, four teleconferences and two face-to-face meetings. In addition, the Board has provided oversight and support for our National Committees as well as the Dynamics of Critical Care Conference local planning committee. The Board of Directors also facilitates a daylong meeting with representatives from the 13 CACCN chapters across the country to provide educational, leadership development and networking opportunities, and learning from one another. Over 2 P age

3 the past year, the Association has provided chapters with financial support through the Chapter Knowledge Fund for educational activities and chapter reimbursement. CACCN is extremely proud of the work and accomplishments of the chapter leadership. Through the Board of Directors, the Association has continued to build partnerships and collaborate with our Associations in support of critical care nursing in Canada and abroad. The Board will continue to raise the profile for the Canadian Association of Critical Care Nurses and will continue to ensure Canadian Critical Care Nurses have a voice and a vehicle to contribute to the future of critical care for Canadians. CACCN membership has remained steady over the past fiscal year with approximately 1300 members. The Association awarded Tuition Discount Coupons to the thirteen chapters for the Recruitment and Retention of Association Members. Continuous renewal has been beneficial for members and has been helpful in maintaining our retention numbers. Certification continues to be an important cornerstone of education for our members. Certification Fall 2016: Adult Certification 41 CACCN members wrote their adult certification 37 CACCN members renewed their certification Paediatric Certification 12 CACCN members wrote their paediatric certification 4 CACCN members renewed their certification CACCN distributed $ 1,000 in support of certification by awarding one (1) - $ prize for one member who wrote their examination and two (2) - $ prizes for two members who renewed their certification. Awards and Grants CACCN with the support of our sponsor partners presented the following Awards and Grants during the previous fiscal year: Sponsored Awards BBraun Sharing Expertise Philips Chapter of the Year and Draeger Chapter of the Year Spacelabs Innovative Project Sage Products Poster Bursary CACCN Awards Chasing Excellence Award Research Grant 3 P age

4 Educational Awards Brenda Morgan Leadership Excellence Award Canadian Intensive Care Spotlight Challenge Dynamics 2017 Poster Awards Publications Paula Price, Editor and the Editorial Review Board of the Canadian Journal of Critical Care Nursing continue to provide a journal which is relevant and valuable to any nurse with an interest or expertise in critical care nursing. Partnership CACCN has been active with many projects with Canadian Blood Services, Canadian Nurses Association, Choosing Wisely, World Sepsis Day and many grant applications from our critical care partners. Most notably the association has been involved in certification education in Dubai and review and revision of the Certification examination through Canadian Nurses Association. Dynamics of Critical Care Conference Dynamics 2016 was held in Charlottetown, PE in September We had approximately 380 delegates in attendance and 40 exhibitors. The main sources of revenue were exhibit fees and conference tuition. The main expenditures for the Dynamics 2016 conference included: conference facilities audio visual food and beverage Financial Audit Rob Mazur, Treasurer provided information regarding the financial audit for the association. For in-depth reports on the association s activities, the Annual Report and the financial audit are available. 5 MOTION: To appoint the firm of MacNeill-Edmundson Chartered Accountants of London, Ontario to be the auditors of the Association for the 2017/2018 fiscal year. Kathy Bouwmeester, Southern Alberta Chapter Teddie Tanguay, Greater Edmonton Chapter Question: Is MacNeill Edmundson the same auditor? Response: Yes, association s auditors for many years. 9. Board of Director Nominations / Elections Kathy Bouwmeester, Vice-President/Nominations Chair addressed the Assembly regarding the Nominations for the CACCN National Board of Directors. The Call for Nominations was issued for two Directors in the Central Region and one Director at Large. Nominations received by the deadline July 5, 2017: Central Region: Large: Lissa Currie, Manitoba Chapter Brandi Vanderspank-Wright, Ottawa Region Chapter Peter Anderst, Greater Edmonton Chapter Fiona McLeod, British Columbia Chapter CACCN conducted an electronic election per the CACCN General Operating Bylaw # 1 through Simply Voting (simplyvoting.com) from August 15 to September 15, Members without contact were mailed paper ballots with return envelopes. Simply Voting conducted a fully managed election and provided the following certified election results to CACCN on September 16, # of Electors: 193 (13.8% of eligible electors voted) Central Region: Large: Lissa Currie, Manitoba Chapter Brandi Vanderspank-Wright, Ottawa Region Chapter Peter Anderst, Greater Edmonton Chapter 10. New Business There was no new business for the assembly to consider. 5 P age

Announcements Certification Dubai Project Though the Canadian Nurses Association, the CACCN was involved with providing certification education in Dubai Renee Chauvin and Eugene Mondor, Greater Edmonton Chapter were involved with two rounds of educational instruction in Dubai Certification Abu Dhabi Project Thought the Canadian Nurses Association, the CACCN is currently involved with providing certification educational resources to Abu Dhabi The process is along the lines of train the trainer This process has however provided CACCN with the opportunity to build educational modules that will be available for educators and membership in the future. Renee Chauvin and Sarah Crowe have been actively working on this project. Canadian Intensive Care Week October 22 to 28, 2017 Dynamics 2018 Call for Abstracts to be issued in late November 2017 Standards for Critical Care Nursing Practice 5 th ed reviewed and revised by the Professional Development Committee. The standards have now been printed with English/French in one booklet. A copy of the standards was provided to all members with the Fall Canadian Journal of Critical Care Nursing in September Certification Study Guide reviewed and revised by the Professional Development Committee and is available in the Members Only area of the website. The guide will be updated again should changes be made to the certification examination. Association Theme for the association theme for will be Be the One. 12. Open Forum Certification Educational Package: What is the timeline for availability? Actively working on this project. Anticipate availability in approximately six months. What is involved with the educational package? Modules? Video, PowerPoint? At present the information is in PowerPoint. Looking at converting to other formats. Thank you to Directors Mēlanie Gauthier thanked Shirley Marr, Rob Mazur and Renée Chauvin for their dedication and participation on the Board of Directors as their terms will end on March 31, th CACCN Annual General Meeting 2018 The 34th Annual General Meeting of CACCN will be held in Calgary, AB in conjunction with Dynamics 2018 in September Adjournment Renée Chauvin, President thanked the members for actively participating in the governance of our professional association.
