1 Health Play Specialist/ Sensory Play Practitioner Band 4 - subject to Agenda for Change banding. Starting Salary - 19,408. Contract - 12 month fied term. Hours 37.5 hours over 5 days Monday to Friday. Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. Employed by the Grand Appeal Charity. An eciting opportunity has arisen for a Health Play Specialist with sensory play eperience or a Sensory Play Practitioner to join the Play team based at the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. This is a new post and we are looking for a dynamic individual who has eperience in working with children and Young People who benefit from specialised sensory play, who has outstanding organisational skills and a genuine interest in developing and promoting this role. The post holder will work alongside Health Play Specialists, Disabilities Team, Physiotherapists, Music Therapists and Nursing Teams to provide high quality sensory play opportunities for children and young people 0-17 years old. 2 JOB DESCRPTON ~Band 4 Hospital/Healthcare Play Specialist ~ Post: Band: Division: Responsible to: Responsible for: Employed by: Healthcare Play Specialist, 5 days per week 37.5 hours 4 (Subject to Agenda for Change Banding) Women s and Children s Josephine Lynne Barlow and Anna Shepherd at The Grand Appeal Charity Sensory Play provision in Bristol Royal Hospital for Children The Grand Appeal, The Bristol Children s Hospital Charity, with an honorary contract with UH Bristol NHS Foundation Trust JOB PURPOSE To plan and deliver engaging and stimulating Sensory Play sessions for Children, Young People and their Families. Through the use of Sensory Play you will enable children and young people to feel safe and at ease within the hospital environment. To meet patients emotional, social and developmental needs. Respond to referrals from the multidisciplinary team to provide support for children and YP with disabilities. Support patients during procedures and treatments. Supervise Play Assistants, Students and Volunteers throughout the hospital as required in your daily work. To maintain and utilise sensory equipment and sensory room facilities, preparing the room and resources as required. MAN DUTES AND RESPONSBLTES Communication To be sensitive to the needs of children, YP and their families. To communicate appropriately and effectively with children /YP and their families and all members of the multidisciplinary team within the hospital. To communicate and work co-operatively with The Grand Appeal Charity. To promote the work of The Charity and attend events as reasonably requested. To positively engage families in the planning and evaluation of Sensory Play sessions and programmes. To support and encourage parents to join in sensory play sessions with their children and YP. To ensure that data is maintained in accordance with Trust standards. To attend team and staff meetings and share relevant information related to the Trust and the Play department. To maintain high levels of patient confidentiality. To be involved in the development and maintenance of preparation resources.

3 Personal and People Development To keep records of training attended as part of Personal Development Plan and reflective practice. To review and reflect on own practice and performance through appraisal. Maintain professional portfolio and re-registration. Attend training as required/requested by the Trust and the Charity. Continue to build knowledge and understanding of disabilities and sensory play. To participate in relevant learning opportunities, including the Play Department s in-service training programme. To provide training/teaching sessions on Sensory Play including the Sensory Room. Health and Safety Ensure that all children and YP in your care are supervised at all times. Report incidents and feedback to relevant staff member any concerns related to patients. Maintain sensory equipment to a high level of safety and cleanliness. Take responsibility for infection control related to sensory equipment and toys. Service mprovement Meet with the Senior HPS on a regular basis for supervision. Assess and prioritise patient needs. Liaise with The Charity and the Trust Disabilities Team and attend Disabilities Group meetings. Quality Be a fully committed member of the Play Team and promote the service it provides. Work fleibly with patients and their families throughout the hospital. Respond creatively to the needs of children, YP and their families. Respond to referrals for Children and YP who are anious or struggling with treatments / procedures. Adhere to Trust and Charity policies and procedures. Make safe and economical use of sensory equipment. Equality and Diversity Respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of patients and their families and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs. Encourage each child or YP to participate in sensory sessions to the best of their individual level of understanding and ability. Health and Wellbeing Plan, organise and supervise daily Sensory play/recreation activities which can be delivered fleibly to patients in order to support children and YP in their developmental and therapeutic needs.
