5 OUR MISSION Northwestern University Dance Marathon s (NUDM) mission is to unite the Northwestern, Evanston, and Greater Chicagoland community through awareness, service, education, and philanthropic fundraising by dancing for 30 hours for a rotating primary beneficiary and the Evanston Community Foundation.

6 WHAT IS DANCE MARATHON Fundraising In 2017, Northwestern students raised over $1.25M for GiGi s Playhouse and the Evanston Community Foundation Year-Long Effort 500+ committee members plan events like Trivia, our Gala, educational panels, BUILD events, fundraisers, and more! Dancing for 30 Hours In March, a year of fundraising, service, and awareness culminates with over 1,000 dancing for 30 hours.

7 NUDM QUICK FACTS 1 in 5 students are involved in NUDM, the largest student organization on campus and one of the largest student-run philanthropic organizations in the nation. Over 1,000 students dance each year for 30 hours straight to raise money for a rotating beneficiary and the Evanston Community Foundation. NUDM wrote a check last year for almost $1M for GiGi s Playhouse, a nationwide network of Down syndrome achievement centers. NUDM has a long history and large network of alumni the first Dance Marathon was in Norris Student Center back in 1975!

8 OUR IMPACT $19M+ RAISED FOR BENEFICIARIES Since 1975, NUDM has raised over $19M dollars for our beneficiaries. CONNECTING WITH THE COMMUNITY Each year, dancers give back at service days and connect with the beneficiary at BUILD events. DEVELOPING FUTURE LEADERS NUDM committees and dancers grow and individuals and learn the skills to make the world a better place.

15 FIRST ROUND: ONLINE APPLICATION This is the first step in the application process, serving as an initial screen. Your application will not be complete until you submit the online form, which includes your cover letter as an attachment. These will be due by January 5th and we will contact you if you are invited to submit a full application. In your uploaded cover letter, please include any information that you think best explains your organization. Also, be sure to address these 3 questions: What is your organization s mission? Describe what your organization does. Why is your organization a good fit for NUDM? Submit your online application here

16 SECOND ROUND: WRITTEN APPLICATION Questions will primarily fall under four buckets: What (and who) is your organization? What is your organization s vision? How will your organization work with NUDM? What will you do with the NUDM grant? All organizations may be required to present audited financial statements.

17 INFORMATION SESSION The session is optional, but recommended The session will be at the Norris University Center during the 30-Hour event. We highly encourage you to attend in person (instead of over video chat) so that you can experience NUDM. A video conference link will be sent out to organizations that cannot attend in person. Any organization can attend the video conference, but only those who are invited to submit a full written application can attend in person. 18 HOW WILL INTERVIEWS WORK? The new Executive Co-Chairs will review all written applications. They choose a handful of organizations to interview over the phone. A select number of organizations are then invited to Northwestern s campus for an in-person interview with the Executive Co-Chairs. A small number of applicants will move onto the semi-final stage. In this round, the new Executive Board will review these applications in their entirety and conduct a video interview with the remaining organizations. Following a series of deliberations, the finalists will be invited to one last in-person interview on campus with the entire Executive Board. Ultimately the primary beneficiary is chosen in a unanimous decision by the entire 22-person Executive Board.

19 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

20 WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE THE LIAISON TO NUDM? The liaison between NUDM and our beneficiary ensures our partnership s success. As a liaison, you are expected to attend every NUDM Executive Board meeting on Sunday nights from 7 PM - 10 PM on Northwestern s Evanston campus. We also ask that you attend BUILD events, NUDM s Gala, the 30-Hour Dance Marathon, and other events throughout the year. Liaisons can be formally employed by the organization, but do not have to be.

21 WHAT ARE THE ODDS WE WILL BE SELECTED? Although we have many applicants each year, that should not discourage your organization from applying. We ve had nonprofits apply for eight years in a row before they were eventually selected, and we ve had others selected from their first attempt. Organizations have ranged in size and kind from small family-led nonprofits based in Chicago (that don t have any full-time staff) to established organizations with a national presence -- all can be chosen. No connection to Northwestern University is needed to apply.
