1 Page1 Council for Voluntary Service North West Kent IMPORTANT NOTICE PLEASE READ IMMEDIATELY Statement to Carers regarding the closure of NWK Carers Support Service It is with heartfelt regret and tremendous sadness that I have to announce the closure of our service for Carers across Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley and all the surrounding villages. I must make it clear that you should not be left without any service. From April 1 st services for Carers in our area will be provided by Carers First, a larger charity which already provides support for Carers in Tonbridge and Medway. Why has this change happened? KCC have stopped providing grant funding to many charitable and community services such as ours. We, along with other Carers organisations, had to compete to try to win the contract to continue to provide the localised and personal services you have been used to in recent years. To our dismay, KCC chose not to select us to continue and develop our work for Carers in NW Kent. For some twenty years, we have tried to provide benefits advice within the comfort of your homes offer counselling within your homes provide volunteer based sitter services to give the Carer some respite offer the support and advice from a Carers Support Worker based at Darent Valley Hospital work within GP surgeries to ensure that staff understand the problems that Carers face on a daily basis organise Caring with Confidence courses to develop your own skills maintain 10 Carers Support Groups ensure that all Carers received a Kent Carers Emergency Card organise many fun & social functions at minimal cost to Carers distribute up to 2700 Carers Connect Magazines to keep everyone informed about new developments and opportunities. KCC have passed the responsibility for providing such services to Carers First. In these difficult circumstances we shall use our best endeavours to provide at least a personal telephone service until our closure on 28 th March. After that we will no longer have a base at the Riverside Centre or a presence at the Gateway Centre within the Civic Centre on Wednesdays. If you wish to continue to receive support for your caring role, it is essential that you contact the number below. We are not legally permitted to pass on your details to anyone. From 28 th February 28 th March, if you are unable to contact us or, in the case of an emergency, please phone the KCC Contact Centre: From 1 st April onwards, Carers First: or As ever, our thoughts are with you and we are all very sad that we are not able to continue to support you in the valuable work you do. We will miss each and every one of you. We have enjoyed knowing and supporting you. With fondest wishes to our many friends. Take care. 6 th February 2013 Peter, Janet, Karen, Denise, Sue, Jo and all the volunteers and trustees at North West Kent Carers Support Service In this issue Events (Page 2) Training (Page 3) Linked Services Project (LSP - Page 4) Funding (Page 5) Funding (Page 6) Funding (Page 7) Funding (Page 8) Funding (Page 9) Funding (Page 10) CVSNWK (Page 11) About CVS NWK (Page 12) Get In Touch: Safeguarding and Disclosure & Barring Seminar 22nd February 2013 Safe Network is holding a FREE Safeguarding and Disclosure & Barring seminar for voluntary sector representatives from Kent and Medway.
