4 START YOUR YEAR ADVISOR DEVELOPMENT AND MENTORING PROGRAM Washington DECA s Advisor Development and Mentoring Program offers advisor support to help enhance or improve DECA programs and student competition skills. The number of members registered and submitted as of 5:00 p.m. November 15 will determine the competitive event allocations and voting delegate allocations. After November 15. We encourage you to register additional members throughout the year, but the allocations listed above will not change. December 15 Dues Payment Deadline. Dues payment for members submitted as of November 15 (see above) must reach DECA Inc. by December 15 to avoid penalty. March 1 ICDC Qualifier Dues Payment Deadline. To attend the International Career Development Conference, dues payment for qualifying members must reach DECA Inc. by March 1. June 1 Final Dues Payment Deadline. 5 WHAT S NEW IN WASHINGTON DECA UPDATES 1. Community Service Project. The Washington DECA state officer team has selected the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) as our community service focus. See more on page Payment Late Fees. Consistently, less than half of conference registration and housing invoices are paid on time. Some unpaid balances linger into June, as our fiscal year is ending. Washington DECA will begin implementing late fees in When an invoice is 60 days past due, and each additional 30 days thereafter, a $25.00 late fee will accrue on the chapter s invoice. 3. Form B Statement of Assurance and Advisor Rules and Responsibilities. Form B is due October 5, 2017 from every chapter advisor for the school year. It will cover all Washington DECA Activities; FLC, SCDC, and/or ICDC. 4. State Career Development Conference School Based Enterprise (SBE) Event. The SBE Event will model the experience at ICDC, and is optional for chapters who have qualified as Gold Level SBEs through DECA Inc. The top 6 SBEs from this event awarded on stage at SCDC. This event replaces CAP and MAP competition. 5. Advisor and Chapter Support Program. Washington DECA is launching a separate website for advisors and students, to include many new classroom and chapter resources. u teachdeca.org DECA INC. COMPETITIVE EVENT CHANGES 1. Entrepreneurship Team Decision Making and Entrepreneurship Individual Series Events. These are new events and participants will take a new entrepreneurship exam. 2. Virtual Business Challenge Fashion. This is a new online event. 3. Start Up Business Plan. This event can now be comprised of one to three members of the DECA chapter. 4. Evaluation Forms. For all competitive events with a written entry, the evaluation forms may have more points allocated toward the executive summary on the written evaluation. Evaluation forms for the presentation of Chapter Team Events and evaluation forms for Advertising Campaign, Fashion Merchandising Promotion Plan, and Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan will be revised. The Washington DECA Code of Conduct applies to all delegates students, advisors, chaperones, and any other authorized person attending the event. Please distribute the Code of Conduct document to all delegates who may attend a DECA event, and carefully review it with them. 7 WASHINGTON DECA CONFERENCES AND COMPETITIVE EVENTS, CONT WASHINGTON DECA OVERVIEW AND GUIDELINES FOR STATE COMPETITIVE EVENTS The following guidelines do not replace those in the DECA Guide, but for Washington State competition, they do supersede the DECA Inc. guidelines. Please refer to the table for important competition information. IMPORTANT DATES January 9 30-page written event projects must be submitted online in PDF format to WA DECA. January 22 SCDC registration opens. Competitors must be DECA members who are eligible to compete at or attend SCDC. January 23 ADC, FMP, SEPP, EIP, ESB, and EFB events (that qualified at area) due to WA DECA (postmarked or hand delivered). January page written event qualifiers announced. January 30 SCDC registration closes. To complete registration, an online testing proctor must be entered. February 6 8 SCDC online testing dates. STUDENTS COMPETING IN MORE THAN ONE EVENT 1. Students may compete in only one event that requires a test, but they can compete in an additional non-test event, with a maximum of two events (however, students may compete in only one Entrepreneurship Event as stated next). 2. Students may compete in only one Entrepreneurship Event (EBG, EFB, EIB, EIP, ESB, or IBP). 3. Students may not compete in an additional event if they are competing in any of the Principles Events. These events are limited to firstyear DECA members only. 4. Students may not submit or participate in more than one project in the same event. REGISTERING STUDENTS COMPETITIVE EVENTS ONLINE FOR SCDC 1. Area leaders or their designee are authorized to assign the competitive events in SCDC registration for area conference winners or to send the qualifier CSV file from DLG tabulations to Nancy Hanlon to upload results into the SCDC registration system. Any changes regarding these events must go through the area leader. REGISTRATION AND HOUSING AT A GLANCE CONFERENCE REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS Conference Registration Instructions for FLC, SCDC, and ICDC will be ed to advisors before registration opens and will be available on the website in conference-specific folders. These instructions include pricing, detailed registration information, and links to conference documents and forms. CANCELLATION AND CHANGE POLICY To provide chapters with the latest possible registration dates, cancellation and change deadlines are the same date as the close of registration. Changes. Advisors may log in to the conference registration site and cancel participants or make changes up until 5:00 p.m. on the date conference registration closes. Please note: only the area leader or designee may make changes to area event qualifiers in SCDC registration. Late Cancellations. After the close of registration, please any cancellations to Nancy Hanlon at nancy@wadeca.org and Eliza Webb at eliza@wadeca.org. Registration Fees. Registration fees will not be dropped or refunded due to cancellation after the close of registration. Be sure attendees are registered DECA members Log in and select REGISTRATION Complete the chapter information page Confirm/update school information Include arrival and departure dates and times Register advisors and chaperones Register online testing proctors (SDCD only) Register students HOUSING PROCEDURE Hotel preferences may be selected in the online registration system for FLC and SCDC. Shared Housing. Chapters that want to share or combine housing must arrive and depart on the same days. Room Assignments. Two-bedded rooms are used only for quad and triple accommodations or if adults sharing a room require two beds. Two students sharing a room must be placed in a single/king room. King with Rollaway. It may be necessary to place groups of three into a single/king room with a rollaway bed. Cancellations. Dropping rooms or reconfiguring room arrangements is not an option after the close of registration. CONFERENCE FORMS Several forms and documents for each conference will be due to Washington DECA on or before the day conference registration closes. To download the following forms, go to teachdeca.org u Documents and Forms Form A Delegate Permission, Release, and Code of Conduct Form The chapter advisor must have in his or her possession a completed Form A for each delegate (student, chaperone, advisor) attending the Washington DECA event. Form B Statement of Assurance / Advisor Rules and Responsibilties One Form B must be submitted to Washington DECA by every advisor for the school year. Due October 5, Form C Agreement to Supervise Students from Another School Form C is conference specific and must be completed and submitted to Washington DECA when an advisor will be supervising one or more students from another chapter. Form D Permission to Use Private Transportation Form D is conference specific and must be completed and submitted to Washington DECA if a student will drive/ride in private transportation to and from the Washington DECA event. PRO SPORTS CAREER DAYS Washington DECA has exclusive partnerships with the Seattle Mariners and the Portland Trailblazers for Pro Sports Career Days offered in the fall and spring. In addition, several minor league team events may be scheduled for late spring. At these events, business professionals from the featured team share their personal experiences with breaking into the industry, as well as the career opportunities in sports marketing. Following the educational portion, attendees will enjoy the game with the rest of the fans. GET INVOLVED IN YOUR COMMUNITY Serving the community allows DECA members to practice their leadership skills while developing community consciousness. Giving back is part of DECA s legacy. This year, Washington DECA s service project will focus on the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). MDA is leading the fight to free individuals and the families who love them from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related muscle-debilitating diseases that take away physical strength, independence, and life. MDA s collective strength helps kids and adults live longer and grow stronger by finding research breakthroughs across diseases, caring for individuals from day one, and empowering families with services and support in hometowns across America.
