2 INNOVATIONS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONFERENCE DECA s Innovations and Entrepreneurship Conference is the springboard for DECA members to unleash their ideas. Designed for those DECA members with an entrepreneurial spirit, this conference will empower members to consider life as a entrepreneur through a blend of modules and a pitch competition. This year s Innovations and Entrepreneurship Conference will use the lean methodology as the basis for the conference, making a perfect tie in to DECA s Entrepreneurship Events. During the conference, members progress through a series of modules in a learningby-doing environment that include ideation, team formation, customer discovery, rapid prototyping and pitch workshops. In addition, members will learn from entrepreneurs through short, yet powerful presentations. The conference will serve as DECA s kickoff of its celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, so the entrepreneurial spirit can live on within attendees once they return to their communities. Participation in this conference will help students understand the concepts, processes and skills associated with identifying new ideas, opportunities, and methods and with creating or starting a new project or venture through understanding fundamental factors about entrepreneurship to recognize its role and importance in the economy: employing entrepreneurial discovery strategies to generate feasible ideas for business ventures developing concepts for new business venture to evaluate its success potential determining needed resources for a new business venture to contribute to its start-up viability Entrepreneurship standards from the National Curriculum Standards for Business Administration,

5 REGISTRATION PROCEDURES Registration for this conference will take place online at power. All student attendees must be on a submitted DECA roster to register. Make your hotel reservations directly with the hotel by October 12. For the online registration process, collect the following information from each attendee: name t-shirt size beneficiary information competitive event (yes or no) CONFIRMATION: If you have not received a registration confirmation from DECA within two days after submitting your online registration, please call Talia Cobbins at (703) x 249. CHANGES AND SUBSTITUTIONS: Make changes and substitutions using the online registration system until October 12. All changes after October 12 must be submitted to DECA Inc. by ing talia_cobbins@deca.org. REGISTRATION PAYMENT After completing online registration, please mail a copy of all registration materials and payment to: DECA Inc. Ultimate Power Trip 1908 Association Drive Reston, VA METHODS OF PAYMENT: Check, purchase order, or credit card (MasterCard, VISA or American Express) are accepted. A 3% convenience fee will be assessed for any charged amount. REFUND POLICY: $75 of the registration fee is nonrefundable. No refunds will be granted for adjustment of a chapter s registration after 6 p.m. on November 10. Refund checks will be sent within one month after the close of the conference. HOTEL RESERVATION PROCEDURES Conference participants must stay at the conference hotel for a minimum of two nights. Make your hotel reservations directly with the conference hotel by October 12. Hotel reservations will be made using the hotel s DECA website at DECAPower. Once you have registered with DECA Inc., your chapter will appear in the drop down on the website the next business day. Follow the online instructions to make your reservations. Please put your school s name in the company field. You can book multiple guests in a room and up to five rooms in the same transaction. If you are booking more than nine rooms, please Talia_Cobbins@deca.org for an alternative method for booking rooms. Due to hotel limitations, no more than four people are allowed in one room. HOTEL PAYMENT A credit card is required to reserve the rooms. If you plan to pay by credit card, you must present the card with your name on it upon check in. If the card is not available upon check in, the hotel should receive a signed credit card authorization form with the details of the card you want to use, before your arrival. Download the form at and fax it to the number provided prior to the conference. If you wish to pay by check, you may do so by mailing the check (include confirmation numbers) no later than October 19 to: Philadelphia Marriott Downtown Attn: Tanecia Jackson 1201 Market Street Philadelphia, PA SUPERVISION RATIO A minimum of one advisor for every ten student-delegates or portion of ten student-delegates is required for registration. It is the chapter advisor s responsibility to see that your chapter adheres to this ratio. This ratio will be strictly enforced by DECA Inc. Chaperones and spouses must pay the registration fee and be listed on the registration form. CONDUCT AND DRESS CODE Advisors should bring signed copies of the Conference Delegate Practices and Procedures and Dress Code for each participant. These do not have to be turned in but should be kept available by the advisor for reference.
