2 INNOVATIONS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP CONFERENCE DECA s Innovations and Entrepreneurship Conference is the springboard for DECA members to unleash their ideas. Designed for those DECA members with an entrepreneurial spirit, this conference will empower members to consider life as a entrepreneur through a blend of modules and a pitch competition. This year s Innovations and Entrepreneurship Conference will use the lean methodology as the basis for the conference, making a perfect tie in to DECA s Entrepreneurship Events. During the conference, members progress through a series of modules in a learningby-doing environment that include ideation, team formation, customer discovery, rapid prototyping and pitch workshops. In addition, members will learn from entrepreneurs through short, yet powerful presentations. The conference will serve as DECA s grand finale of its celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week, but the entrepreneurial spirit will live on within attendees once they return to their communities. CLASSROOM CONNECTION This conference will reinforce entrepreneurial concepts taught in marketing and business classes. 4 PROFESSIONAL LEARNING SERIES The Professional Learning Series powered by DECA will engage educators in professional development designed to enhance teaching and learning. Documentation of professional development completion will be provided to participants. SATURDAY NOVEMBER 19 BEYOND THE STAGE Students participating in DECA s competitive events learning program develop and apply various knowledge and skills essential for success in the 21st century. Peek beyond the stage to discover unique ways to foster classroom learning with DECA competitive events and what students gain from engagement in the program. CHAPTER COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGIES Content is king. Learn how to put together a comprehensive chapter communications strategy that speaks to both your internal and external audiences. We ll discuss effective ways to communicate with your chapter members, within your school and to your community using traditional and emerging techniques. CHAPTER ENHANCEMENT THROUGH PROJECT MANAGEMENT Reaching exceptional levels does not occur because of any one major initiative. It s built on a combination of little acts of excellence. Discover how to deliver projects and activities with intentional acts of planning, implementation, communication and evaluation to make the mission of DECA come to life for members. FLIPPING THE CLASSROOM WITH DECA The concept of a flipped classroom has been around for a few years. The differentiated flipped classroom creates a learning environment with student structure, student responsibility, interaction between the instructor and students, and student engagement. Learn how to do what you do best, utilize activities from some of DECA s Comprehensive Learning Programs and set the stage for a powerful classroom learning environment. LEVERAGING YOUR DECA NETWORK Are you in need of bite sized training tips for partnership development? Each one of us connects with existing and potential partners whether we realize it or not. Maybe you are unsure how to engage the diverse audience. Discover how to leverage your DECA network with school administrators, faculty, parents, district and state administrators, and business community. Leave with strategies for utilizing your DECA network to open doors to effective partnership development. Advisors are encouraged to register for the day-long professional development. 4

6 PROCEDURES Registration for this conference will take place online at iec. All student attendees must be on a submitted DECA roster to register. Make your hotel reservations directly with the hotel by October 19. For the online registration process, collect the following information from each attendee: name t-shirt size beneficiary information CONFIRMATION: If you have not received a registration confirmation from DECA within two days after submitting your online registration, please call Linda Clemons at (703) x 242. CHANGES AND SUBSTITUTIONS: Make changes and substitutions using the online registration system until October 19. All changes after October 19 must be submitted to DECA Inc. by ing linda_clemons@deca.org. HOTEL RESERVATION PROCEDURES Conference participants must stay at the conference hotel for a minimum of two nights. Make your hotel reservations directly with the conference hotel by October 19. Hotel reservations will be made using the hotel s DECA website at DECANov2016. Once you have registered with DECA Inc., your chapter will appear in the drop down on the website the next business day. Follow the online instructions to make your reservations. Please put your school s name in the company field. You can book multiple guests in a room and up to five rooms in the same transaction. If you are booking more than five rooms, please Christopher_Young@deca.org for an alternative method for booking rooms. Due to hotel limitations, no more than four people are allowed in one room. SUPERVISION RATIO A minimum of one advisor for every ten student-delegates or portion of ten student-delegates is required for registration. It is the chapter advisor s responsibility to see that your chapter adheres to this ratio. This ratio will be strictly enforced by DECA Inc. Chaperones and spouses must pay the registration fee and be listed on the registration form. CONDUCT AND DRESS CODE Advisors should bring signed copies of the Conference Delegate Practices and Procedures and Dress Code for each participant. These do not have to be turned in but should be kept available by the advisor for reference. You can find the general DECA dress code at PAYMENT After completing online registration, please mail a copy of all registration materials and payment to: DECA Inc. Innovations + Entrepreneurship 1908 Association Drive Reston, VA METHODS OF PAYMENT: Check, purchase order, or credit card (MasterCard, VISA or American Express) are accepted. A 3% convenience fee will be assessed for any charged amount. REFUND POLICY: $75 of the registration fee is nonrefundable. No refunds will be granted for adjustment of a chapter s registration after 4 p.m. on November 18. Refund checks will be sent within one month after the close of the conference. HOTEL PAYMENT A credit card is required to reserve the rooms. If you plan to pay by credit card, you must present the card with your name on it upon check in. If the card is not available upon check in, the hotel should receive a signed credit card authorization form with the details of the card you want to use, before your arrival. Download the form at and fax it to the number provided prior to the conference.
