First of all allow me to thank all of the members that voted for me to be the new (old) President. I am in awe of the confidence you have shown in me. Second, we are the Stanley Cup champions for the second year in a row. In the era of the salary cap, that is quite an accomplishment. Of course they would have had a harder time winning without Murray and Jake from State Farm. But on the ugly side. Since this is a business, Trip Report: By Stew Thomas The schedule is out and its time to start thinking about the hockey season! The travel schedule is not the greatest, but we have seen worse. Unfortunately we play in Charlotte, NC and Toronto, one in the middle of the week making trips to these two favorite locations impossible. However, our two new venues in Canada, Belleville, ON and Laval, QC are both on a weekend and believe it or not the same weekend. This could possibly players, coaches, front office personnel are lured away by big money, and a chance for a promotion. Other teams that wish and hope their team had the same type of run at the cup as Pittsburgh with the player support from Wilkes- Barre/Scranton will do their best to copy us. Now that a new NHL team (Vegas) has been added to the league. The AHL has realigned the teams again this time we get to see and play Midwestern teams both home and away. (I can t wait)! Do I see hockey trips in our future? Last but no least, I am looking forward to working with our board. Seeing new members, watching new players and of course going to provide us with two new places to travel depending on the cost. We will attempt to travel once per month starting in the month of October. We will be planning a combination of day trips and overnight trips including a trip to see the Pittsburgh Penguins play. This could be home or away depending on when we can fit this into the schedule. I will be putting my ideas together for the trips and presenting it to the executive board at our meeting on August 7th for discussion and approval. If all goes well the trip schedule will be announced at the general meeting on August 14th. different arenas. I hope that you all have had a wonderful summer whatever is left of it. Soak up some sun, go wherever you can enjoy yourself with family and friends. Take lots of pictures and create lots of memories. Let s Go Pens!!! Vicki Finally I would like to thank Chip Hanuscik for his many years of hard work as the club s trip director. It is certainly not an easy job!!! It has been a pleasure working with Chip for the past two years handling the sign-ups and the financial end of the job. I wish Chip a lot of good luck and good health as he continues to be an active member in the booster club. Once again, thank you for a job well done!!! LET S GO PENS! 3 Meeting Minutes: By Peggy Johnson The WBSPBC met on June 12, 2017 at the Wilkes-Barre Twp. Fire Co. Kathy Thomas, President, called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. There were 27 members in attendance. A motion was made and seconded to waive the reading of the minutes. All members present were in favor and the motion was passed. Wendy gave the Treasurer s report for May and June. A motion was made and seconded to accept the report. All members present were in favor and the motion was passed. A copy of the current minutes is available at the Secretary s table for members to view. There was no speaker available for the meeting since the only players that were around are in Pittsburgh. Kathy wishes to congratulate the Pittsburgh Penguins on a great run to winning the Stanley Cup. It was nice to see our boys have a connection to the win. Hats off to the Nashville Predators for a great run. Kathy wants to thank the Board and all the members for their support during her terms. announced, Lisa will go through her list of volunteers wishing to do a book and assign a player to each one. There is some merchandise samples left over from the season which may be up for sale. The Audit Committee needs to reopen due to the election of the new Treasurer. Tom Thackara is the chairman. He will need 2 or more volunteers to assist him. Vicki reported that the Player s Awards Banquet made a profit of $ A good time was had by all. Kathy stated that she would continue with the Daily Number fund raiser. Tickets should be ready to handout by the September meeting. We will need to order more milk chocolate pucks to take to the convention in Bridgeport. There are some Booster Club pins left to sell. We need an idea for the upcoming season ( ) pin. Kathy is still looking for a date and picture for out Art N Vino event. Check the Booster Club site on Facebook for any further information. Fire Co. Stew reported that the final payment for the AAHLBC Convention must be made mid June. In order that he gets the money to the AAHLBC Treasurer, Chis O Shea by June 30. Stew reported that the new schedule is supposed to be out by mid July. There are several new locations Charlotte, Laval, Belleville in Ontario. He will start working on the trips as soon as he gets the schedule. There will be a list of Committees posted as the general meeting for members to sign up if interested in serving as a chairman or helper.
