They arrive in Covington, Wednesday, March 30, for a two week visit. Their schedule will include a trip to Oklahoma City for a Russia Initiative Pastor Pak Conference to be held April 6-9. They will be at both worship services on Sundays, April 3 and April 10. Pastor Pak will be our guest preacher on April 3rd. Hopefully, you will get to meet and greet both them during this time. Please include them in your prayers for a safe journey. ONE WORSHIP SUNDAYS The Administrative Board decided to combine worship services at four important dates during the year in order that we all may worship together from time to time. The first ONE WORSHIP Sunday is Palm Sunday, April 17, at 10:00 a.m., when the children will process with palms and the choir will present a cantata Rejoice, the Lord is King. Sunday School will follow the service, then we will gather for a potluck fellowship meal at noon. The traditional children s Easter Egg hunt will follow the lunch. 2 Page 2 T F OUTSTANDING STUDENTS! On Tuesday, March 8, the Covington Exchange Club awarded Daniel Flanagan Youth of the Year. He received a $100 Savings Bond and will compete in the Tennessee State Exchange Club contest. Winner of the state contest wins an education scholarship. Daniel is the son of Bill and Liz Flanagan, and the grandson of Eddie and Carol Daniel. Daniel s home address is 968 Highway 54 East, Covington, Daniel has two siblings, Molly and Thomas. Stephan Racine won two awards at Tipton-Rosemark Academy s Oscar Night. He was granted Most Talented and Most Spiritual awards. Stephen s parents are Mike and Robin Racine. UMCOR, the humanitarian relief and development agency of The United Methodist Church, is working through relief and church partners in Japan to respond to and provide immediate assistance and long-term rehabilitation. With these partners, UMCOR is meeting the most basic humanitarian needs in northern Japan such as providing clean drinking water, food, cooking and eating supplies, clothing, and fuel for heating. You may make a gift to provide emergency relief and long-term recovery support for disaster-affected communities thru FUMC. Please mark the check as: Asia and Pacific Relief # At the time of the earthquake and tsunami, the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries had nine missionaries in Japan along with a number of individual volunteers-in-mission, and this group has responded to those in need. Current contributions to UMCOR from Covington FUMC netted $ for the victims of the Japanese tragedy. HABITAT FOR HUMANITY - ANNUAL FISH FRY FRIDAY,, APRILA 8, Come enjoy the evening with us and support the ministry of Habitat for Humanity. Entertainment will be provided by the Gospel singers from Collins Chapel Church and Jackie McDivitt s bluegrass group. Donation for meal is $ 6.00 per person. Menu: Fried Catfish, white beans, hush puppies, coleslaw, tea, water or fruit punch. Dessert can be obtained from the Bake Sale that will be conducted during the event. CAN YOU HELP? Habitat for Humanity is requesting contributions of baked items (cakes, cookies, pies, etc.) for the bake sale. Please deliver you baked goods to the FUMC kitchen on Thursday, April 7th from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m., or Friday, April 8th from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Methodist-Presbyterian Nursery School would like to put rubberized filler on playground. The current balance of the Samaritan Fund is $ Compassion International is an evangelical Christian child development ministry dedicated to the needs of children around the world. Founded in 1952, Compassion International began by providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education, health care, and Christian training. Today, Compassion International helps more than 1 million children in 26 countries. All Compassion s programs are rooted in Christian child development and child advocacy. Sunday, April 10, is Compassion Sunday, intended to draw the attention of the Church to the needs of the world s poorest children. If you choose to sponsor a child for $38 a month, you will begin to build a relationship with the child by sending and receiving letters, seeing photographs of the child and learning the child s progress and well-being.
