5 Thank You Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska gratefully acknowledges the outstanding efforts of all volunteers, parents, and community benefactors who promote the Girl Scout mission. Little can compare with the satisfaction that you must have felt as you helped girls grow in courage, confidence and character as they discovered themselves, connected with their communities and took action to make the world a better place. We deeply appreciate all of your time and energy in helping us honor and appreciate those contributions. 7 President s Award Recipient Service Unit 212 SU 212 represents the communities of Nebraska City and Syracuse Tammy Bando, Service Unit Manager As a result of a nation-wide merger of Girl Scouts councils in 2008, these two areas combined to become Service Unit 212. Today, more than ever, they strive to give every girl the best possible Girl Scout experience. Leaders and volunteers work hard to promote the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to all levels from Daisies through Ambassadors. They strive to offer new and engaging opportunities, and encourage girls to demonstrate their leadership by accepted new challenges. Service Unit events are coordinated by and for girls, with age-appropriate activities. SU 212 has increased their membership by 65%! One if five girls in the area is a Girl Scout. Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska congratulates Service Unit 212, its leadership, troop co-leaders, and volunteers for their commitment to building girls of courage, confidence and character!

25 Carolyn Sloan Spirit of Nebraska Award Michele Chambers Lincoln For over 20 years, Michele Chambers has been an integral member of the Girl Scout Spirit of Nebraska team. Residing in Lincoln, Michele began her volunteer career in 1993 as a leader, when her first of five daughters was in second grade. She has led Girl Scout troops from Daisies through Ambassadors and currently leads a Brownie troop and Cadette through Ambassador troop at St. Joseph School. Michele feels Girl Scouts is the preeminent organization that develops girls leadership skills. One of the most rewarding things is when older girls come back and tell her about all of the neat things they have accomplished. Michele promotes the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and champions it to other girls and leaders. Under Michele s tutelage, girls make plans and are actively involved in decision making. Michele works to make sure all girls are included and have opportunities available to them. As a travel volunteer, Michele has helped plan a number of council sponsored trips and traveled with girls many times. Michelle accompanied Girl Scouts on trips to London, Ireland and Rome and Savannah, GA. In celebration of the 100-year anniversary, Michele accompanied over 50 members to
26 Minnesota to camp and in 2014 Michele chaperoned girls from Nebraska as they joined with girls from all over the United States for a trip to Europe. Michele is a leader of leaders, serving as Service Unit Manager of Service Unit 218 since In that role, Michele has helped organize and plan a number of Service Unit events. Michele is a council-wide mentor, helping leaders, committee members and staff in various roles. Michele has served as a co-leader of many new troops, providing veteran leadership and guidance. She inspires adults and helps them gain confidence to lead on their own. Additional volunteer positions Michele has held with Girl Scouts include Gold Award Committee member, Council Delegate, Trainer (Council, Program Aide, Outdoor Learning), Robotics Coach and Travel Volunteer. Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska sends our appreciation to you, Michele for your love of and dedication to Girl Scouts.
