4 The Nursing Science and Health-Care Leadership Master of Science Leadership and Doctor of Philosophy graduate students at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis receive generous financial support from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation. In addition, the following awards are presented this evening to these outstanding students. G. Russell and Sharon Bell Scholarship Caitlin Buggy G. Russell and Sharon Bell established this endowed scholarship to benefit one student or more each year at the School of Nursing. Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing Founding Team Scholarship Kimberly Hardy Founding members of the school s team created this scholarship in 2010 to show their passion for the school and its vision. Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing Scholarship Susanna Shkrabak Sayantani Sarkar This award is given to students who exemplify the vision of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. It is made possible by numerous donors dedicated to supporting emerging health care leaders. The Brunner Family Endowed Scholarship for Nursing Leadership Angela Todd Daniel and Rhea Brunner established this unrestricted scholarship to provide support in perpetuity to students at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. Busch Family Endowed Fund Emily O Shaughnessy Douglas and Julie Busch established this permanent scholarship to support students at the School of Nursing. Natalie F. Bush, M.S.N. and Wes Bush Scholarship Tina Rylee Natalie and Wes Bush established this endowed scholarship to provide support to one student or more each year at the School of Nursing. Michael and Renée Child Endowed Scholarship Beverly Smiley Stacy McCarthy This fund, established by UC Davis alumni Michael and Renée Child, provides scholarship support to one or more students each year.

5 Michael and Carol Corbett Award Carter Todd This award supports students at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing who demonstrate a commitment to increasing diversity among health care professionals. Caroline Dare Scholarship Fund Glenda McDougald As associate director of hospital and clinics as well as the director of nursing at UC Davis Medical Center, Caroline Dare helped redefine the role of nursing during the hospital s transition from Sacramento County Hospital to UC Davis Medical Center. The Caroline Dare Scholarship Fund supports the next generation of nurse leaders. Eager Family Endowed Nursing Award Tina Rylee Terry and Susan Eager established this endowed scholarship to benefit one student or more each year at the School of Nursing. Fields-Messersmith Family Endowed Award Caitlin Buggy Ruth Fields-Messersmith and Lloyd Messersmith established this fund to support students who are interested in conducting research or working with at-risk children, specifically young children at risk of being neglected or abused. The Jennie W. Gardner Nursing Scholarship Matthew Vega This fund honors Jennie W. Gardner, a public-health nurse and a member of the California State Nursing Association Committee on Legislation, who was instrumental in passing the Registered Nursing Practice Act in Hersted Fund for Pediatric Nursing Trudee Murray The Hersted Fund supports pediatric nursing students, with a special focus on community-based care. Jackson Family Endowed Fund Matthew Vega John and Lynda Jackson established this endowed scholarship to benefit one student or more each year at the School of Nursing.

6 Khanuma Blake Fund for Gerontological Nursing Elbina Rafizadeh This fund supports students with an interest in geriatric treatment, supervision and research. Teri A. Lown R.N., O.C.N., Educational Award in Oncology Nursing Melissa Johnson-Camacho This fund supports students interested in careers as nurse educators, researchers or clinicians who specialize in oncology. The fund also supports faculty research in clinical oncology. National Advisory Council Endowed Scholarship Misara Bambao Established in 2014 by the School of Nursing s National Advisory Council, this award supports diverse, talented students who will be the next generation of nurse leaders, researchers, educators and policymakers. This scholarship will enable countless generations of students to pursue advanced degrees while addressing the most pressing health care issues and improving the national health care system. Nursing Science and Health-Care Leadership Student and Alumni Scholarship Fund Sherena Edinboro In fall 2010, the inaugural master s-degree and doctoral classes inspired a tradition of student and alumni giving at the School of Nursing by establishing the first student-funded endowment, the Nursing Science and Health-Care Leadership Student and Alumni Scholarship Fund, to benefit students who follow in their footsteps. Pomeroy Robertson Family Endowed Scholarship Amy Wolfley Claire Pomeroy and William Robertson established this award to provide support for a student who truly exemplifies the transformative ideals of the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing. Quinby-Young Scholarship for Healthy Aging Emily O Shaughnessy Founding Dean Heather M. Young and her husband, Peter Quinby, established this fund in honor of their parents and grandparents and in memory of Melissa Calhoun. The award supports graduate students with a clinical, educational or research focus on advancing health for older adults.

7 Schneider Family Scholarship for Nursing Leadership Glenda McDougald The Schneider Family Foundation at The San Diego Foundation established this endowed scholarship to support students at the School of Nursing. Both Shauna and Philip Schneider received bachelor s degrees at UC Davis and share a passion for improving health care. Phyllis J. Smith Memorial Endowment Jennifer Prevatt Established by the estate of Wayne R. Smith in memory of his aunt, Phyllis J. Smith, this permanent scholarship supports the continuing education of UC Davis Medical Center nurses. Sandy Smoley Endowed Award Kimberly Hardy Sandy Smoley established this endowed scholarship to provide support to one student or more each year at the School of Nursing. Helen M. Thomson Scholarship for Nursing Leadership Victoria Keeton In recognition of Helen M. Thomson s accomplishments as a registered nurse, health policymaker and member of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors, Thomson s family, friends and staff established a scholarship in her honor on the occasion of her retirement to support the school s diverse, talented students. UC Davis Nurses Founding Donors Scholarship Fund Rachel Feldman This award was established by UC Davis Health nurses to support students at the School of Nursing. Ida L. Vanderhoef Memorial Scholarship in Nursing Science and Health-Care Leadership Jennifer Prevatt This fund was established by Mrs. Rosalie Vanderhoef and the late Chancellor Emeritus Larry Vanderhoef in memory of Mr. Vanderhoef s mother. As a nurse, Ida L. Vanderhoef cared deeply about reducing disparities in health care. This scholarship supports one or more students annually at the School of Nursing.

8 Constant M. and Tempest B. van Vlierden Scholarship in Nursing Angela Todd This gift is from the estate of Constant M. and Tempest B. van Vlierden. The award supports students who are from Marin County, with a preference for re-entry students. Volunteer Services Nursing Scholarship Lauren Rountree The Volunteer Services Advisory Board was a group of community volunteers who supported fundraising for programs, equipment and scholarships for UC Davis Health System. Before disbanding, the board s final act was to establish this scholarship at the School of Nursing. ABOUT THE MASTER OF SCIENCE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM This full-time, professional degree program prepares graduates for health care leadership roles in a variety of organizations and as nurse faculty at the community-college level. This program is open to nurses. ABOUT THE DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY PROGRAM This full-time, academic doctoral program prepares graduates as leaders in health care, health policy and as nurse faculty and researchers at the university level.
