7 RULES FOR STUDENT CONDUCT DURING THE SPAIN TOUR School Handbook Rules Apply to all Students during the Spain Tour. Because this is a Shaker Heights Board of Educationapproved field trip, all applicable rules of conduct and behavior contained in the Shaker Heights High School Student Handbook ( School Handbook ) will apply to Student conduct during the entire Shaker Band Tour to Spain ( Tour ). Students may not purchase or have in their possession any prohibited items delineated in the School Handbook. Any violation of the applicable rules in the School Handbook or the Tour Rules identified below will be dealt with by the School or Band Administrators ( Administrators ) during the Tour or, if necessary, upon return to Shaker Heights. Daily Curfews Student curfews will be established by the Administrators and announced by the Administrators and Chaperones during each day of the Tour. Students must stay in their rooms during the hours of the curfew. Administrators and Chaperones will conduct random room checks. Failure of a Student to be in her/his room during curfew will be considered a major infraction. Hotel Conduct 1. Boys are not permitted in the girls rooms, and girls are not permitted in boys rooms at any time. If an infraction occurs, all students involved will be held accountable. 2. Students are not permitted in areas of the hotel unassociated with the Band Tour. If a Student has a question about the permitted areas in a hotel, the Student should ask an Administrator or Chaperone. Students are prohibited from inviting people unassociated with the Tour into their rooms or to the areas of the hotel where other Students are rooming. 3. Telephones in the rooms are restricted to hotel use only. If a Student plans on calling home, the best option is to use personal cell phones. Calls between rooms should be kept to a minimum. Remember Spain is 5/6 hours ahead of Shaker Heights. 4. Students are prohibited from using Pay TV services in their rooms. 5. Students should be respectful of other hotel guests. In general, Students should keep the noise level down. Often, hotels have strict rules pertaining to noise, not only in the rooms but in the halls, lobby, and recreation areas. Quiet hours at the hotel will be strictly enforced. 6. Students may not block hallways or misuse hotel property. Students and their parents will be held financially responsible for missing or damaged items. Students are prohibited from throwing objects from windows, or shouting or leaning from windows or balconies. Students are prohibited from hanging laundry or other items from windows or balconies. 7. Students are not permitted to purchase and/or consume any items from the hotel room mini-bars. Free Time While touring or during any planned free time determined by the Administrators, all Students must stay in groups that include four (4) or more Students. Students found in smaller groups will spend the remainder of the trip with a Chaperone. During every free time, Students are required to check their plans, and confirm a return time with their Chaperone. During free time at the hotel, Students are not permitted to leave the hotel property. General Conduct 1. Students are expected to represent Shaker in a positive manner at all times. The Administrators and Chaperones believe that a mature student knows the difference between right and wrong. All Students should use common sense. When a Student is not sure whether an action or comment is right or wrong, the Student should ask themselves Would I say or do this if my parents or band director were standing beside me? Disrespect of any nature shown toward Administrators, Chaperones, parents, and staff members assisting with the Tour will not be tolerated. 2. Students are expected to wear tidy clothing that is respectful to their surroundings and suited for their activity. The school dress code will apply at all times. 3. Students are expected to leave the places visited during the Tour as clean or cleaner as when they arrived. Any problems will delay our schedule until the mess is cleaned up. 4. Whenever someone is speaking to the group, all I-pods/MP3 players must be off and headphones removed from the neck. Timeliness Students are expected to be at every meeting, departure or performance during the trip at least 15 minutes early. They should not allow their individual schedules and interests to affect the rest of the group. Planes Students will not be able to switch seats on the flights. Buses Students are expected to ride on the same bus at all times. Bus changes will not be permitted Performances Each performance venue reserves the right to cancel group performances if the group does not meet their standards. For this reason, it is imperative that Students arrive at each performance venue with uniforms and instruments in great condition and quickly get ready to commence the performance in a professional manner. Weapons Students may not purchase or possess knives, swords or weapons of any kind, regardless of whether the items appear real, are miniature key chains, decorative, or have historical value. Motor Vehicles Students are not permitted to operate motorized vehicles of any type, including but not limited to cars, mopeds, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles, jet skis or boats during the trip. Alcoholic/Drugs/Tobacco Under no circumstances is a Student permitted to obtain, purchase, or consume any alcohol, drugs or tobacco during the Tour, regardless of the local laws and customs. If an alcoholic beverage is offered by one of our hosts, Students are expected to graciously decline the offer. Tattoos, Body Piercing, Hair Color Students are not permitted to participate in body piercing, hair coloring, or tattooing on Tour. The Band Program is an important part of Shaker Heights High School and our community. The Band is a large, colorful, visible, hardworking, disciplined segment of the student body. Throughout our Tour, we will be judged as a group, not as individuals. Others will form opinions of our school and our community from our actions, attitudes, and behavior. Let s give them something positive to talk about and remember, as we have always done in the past.
