6 Student of the Month: Deandre Deandre is a 16 year old high school Junior who attends school in Plymouth. Deandre is one of the most social teenagers ever. He comes to our center with a big smile and likes to start conversations with everyone he meets. He started our program in September 2013 and set some lofty goals for himself. He wanted to improve his reading and his grade point average so he could play varsity football and basketball. During our annual progress test, he gave unsolicited rave reviews about his tutor and mentioned how much she and this program helps him! Deandre already achieved the goals he set when he started and he still has about a year until he finishes our program. He currently maintains a B average and made the varsity football team. Deandre plays tackle, although he ended the season a bit early due to an injury. He hopes to play power forward this spring on the varsity basketball team. Deandre lives with his parents, younger brother, and older sister who attends college at the University of Michigan. In his spare time he goes to the gym to work out, plays sports video games or enjoys spending time with his two dogs, Spike and Rimmy. He also baby-sits for his two cousins during the summer and plows snow in the winter to earn spending money CALLING ALL OFFICER CANDIDATES Several years ago the Valley of Detroit s membership voted to change its bylaws to reduce the number of directors on the Board of Trustees and the number of officers serving in the constituent bodies. Typically Brothers seeking to serve as officers or directors are recommended for positions by the Valley s Nominating Committee. In December the Nominating Committee will be conducting interviews for these positions. There is no better way to become acquainted with the operation of the Valley than through service as either a Board member or as an officer in one of its bodies. Service in either capacity also provides an excellent opportunity to meet and associate with some truly fine, dedicated Masons. If your schedule permits and you re prepared to make the commitment as an officer or Board member, please contact the Valley office so we can schedule your interview. William J. Contact the Valley Office Toll Free No Later than February 27th Miller & Meyer Honored At the Grand Lodge of Michigan Annual Communication held this past May, it was announced that James Miller and C. William Meyer received the Grand Lodge Distinguished Service Award. Bill was unable to attend the Grand Lodge session due to some surgery, and Jim refused to accept the award until it could be presented to both of them at the same time. On Friday, October 24, 2014, Lincoln Park-Ionic Lodge held a dinner in their honor. Ill. Brother Raymond C. Lemons, 33 o, MSA, and immediate Past Grand Master, was on hand to present them with their Distinguished Service Award. Because of their many years of service to both the Grand Lodge and Freemasonry in general, Ill. Brother David R. Bedwell, 33 o, Deputy for Michigan, presented the Scottish Rite Masonic Service medal to both Brothers. L-R: James Miller and C.
