Immaculate Conception Ministers to the Sick invite you to accompany us on visits to the sick. We visit the homebound, hospitalized, nursing home and rehab patients. Come see the ministry at work! Stop and talk to Ministers to the Sick next weekend after Mass. We will have a table in the breezeway. We want to answer your questions! The Blessed Sacrament is now exposed on: Mondays from 12 midnight 8 a.m. & 9 a.m. 9 p.m. Tuesdays from 9 a.m. 9 p.m. The chapel is open 24 hours, 7 days a week for prayer. Permanent adorers needed Mondays 12 noon to 1 p.m., 4 p.m. 5 p.m. every other week. Substitute adorers needed for Mondays & Tuesdays. SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND OCT. 21/22 CATHOLIC CHARITIES Catholic Charities of Central Florida provides direct emergency assistance to needy families and individuals in our community (Central Florida). The funds are used to help with mortgage payments, utilities, food and many other necessities. None of the money from this special collection goes for overhead but for direct services. The need is great and the generosity of parishioners allows Catholic Charities to provide hope and build opportunity to more people in need. PANTRY SUNDAY This weekend, October 14th & 15th is Pantry Sunday for our Parish. The goods and money collected are given to Daily Bread and the South Brevard Sharing Center. Mark your donation bags for the organization of your choice. Unmarked bags are divided equally between Daily Bread and the Sharing Center. Write your checks to either Daily Bread or the Sharing Center. 28th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME FR. BEN'S "PAPER CLIPS" Lord, the one you love is sick. John 11:3 The apostles come to Jesus with this heartfelt plea on behalf of Lazarus, one of Jesus dearest friends. How often might these same words be on our lips, as we call out to the Lord on behalf of our wife, husband, parent, child, relative, friend, colleague or classmate? How often might these words be uttered repeatedly in desperation as spouses, parents, adult children and caregivers tend to the sick and dying in homes, hospitals and care facilities? One thing is clear from the life of Jesus as recorded in the Gospels his unbounded compassion for the sick and dying (and even those who seemed to be dead ). So many of his encounters with people were prompted by the same thing suffering from illness. However, even before Jesus brought to them the power of miraculous healing, he first offered them an even more significant gift his presence! For as we know, nothing has the potential to be more isolating that sickness and dying. Those who are suffering can become isolated for many reasons: people feel very cut off from the rest of the world as they lose their ability to come and go as they please; not wanting to rock the boat unless absolutely necessary leads people to be unusually quiet when feeling their worse; worries about bothering or burdening the healthy people around you; social gatherings can actually be dangerous, especially for those stricken with diseases that compromise the immune system. Getting sick can sometimes feel like entering a state of suspended animation. The outside world continues along its usual trajectory, but you re frozen in time, isolated in your world of self-care, fatigue and illness. When a person becomes ill, their lives often begin to revolve around doctor s appointments, medication schedules and treatment, and while some friends and family may understand, others may not be so generous. Every day, in imitation of Christ, the Body of Christ is invited to serve those members of the Body who are sick and suffering through our prayer, our assistance and our love. But even more so, our community of Immaculate Conception offers special care for the sick and dying through our MINISTRY TO THE SICK, which most importantly reconnects those isolated by illness (as well as those caregivers who also can become cut off from their normal relationships). I invite you to consider either recommitting to this beautiful ministry, or perhaps offering your time to begin serving this ministry. Many in our midst are crying out, Lord, the one you love is sick. Will you respond in the name of Christ and our IC community through serving in our Ministry to the Sick? Have a blessed week! Fr.
