This year was no different. The condition of both these roads is the responsibility of Transport Quebec not the municipality. When we receive calls and transfer your requests to Transport Quebec, they treat them as one request or one complaint. In order for Transport Quebec to respond more quickly to your requests, to clear or sand the roads, it is important for residents to make the calls themselves and not the municipality. To reach the Transport Quebec s in Lachute simply dial If after calling Transport Quebec you are still not satisfied, do not hesitate to call the municipal and they will assist you. This organization, established in 1897 in Stony Creek (Ontario), wanted to provide farmers wives a place to meet and exchange and where cooking, sewing and craft classes were offered. Charitable activities were organized and the women helped local families in need by donating food, clothing and even furniture. It should also be noted that the ladies of the Women's Institute were mobilized during World War II, sending boxes to soldiers serving overseas. In the 80s, the two branches, Lakefield and Mille-Îles, were united and members have continued to organize various fundraisers including the annual Bazaar at the Trinity Community Center in Gore. Over the years, the money raised was donated to certain school programs, a women's shelter, the homeless, the Argenteuil Hospital Foundation as well as many other causes. Every year, it is possible to admire the talent of these women with big hearts, at the agricultural exhibition in Lachute where several of their crafts are exhibited. In 2005, the Women's Institute was present in 70 countries and had 9 million members. In addition, this organization has consultative status at the UN and is affiliated to the FAO, UNICEF and UNESCO. Scott Pearce, mayor of Gore, and Mr. Michel Boyer, Mayor of Mille-Isles, were present and they thanked the members of the Women's Institute for their involvement in the community of Argenteuil. In recognition, a plaque in their honour was installed in front of the community center in Gore, and more precisely at the foot of the Inuksuk, the symbol of brotherhood, mutual aid and solidarity. MUNICIPALITÉ AMIE DES AÎNÉS (MADA) AND MUNICIPAL FAMILY POLICY Our municipality wants to improve the quality of life for seniors and families in Gore. Last September, a local steering committee, initially supported by Lucie Lafleur from the MRC, was established with a mandate to carry out a process of recognition of a ité amie des aînes (MADA) and of a municipal family policy. We seek to adapt our policies, services and structures to support our seniors, to encourage their active participation and curb ageism. "Think and act family," is the approach s directive of a municipal family policy. We aim to improve the living environment of families. We want measures that will be reflected in the action plan which will meet the real needs of our seniors and our families. Soon you will be invited to participate in a great citizen consultation: first, there will be a survey to highlight the key issues (November to February); then, focus groups will be created. Your point of view is important. We invite you to complete the survey, available on the Gore municipal website ( and distri - buted at various activities. Want to participate in a focus group?
