2 Registration and Reservations Everyone attending any function of the National Convention must pay the appropriate registration fee by using the official Registration Form for all Reservations. Registration must be entered on the website. Late fees apply after March 25. All forms are available on the N.S.C.A.R. web site at Payment MUST accompany all reservations. Friday, April 20 MOUNT VERNON TOUR $26 Per Person We go to Mount Vernon every year as a part of the Pilgrimage, but we never really see it! This year, spend some time at the home of the Father of Our Country, learn about his life in the education center, and see the amazing collection of his possessions and other artifacts in the museum. The National President and Senior National President will raise the flag to start the Mt. Vernon day, and we will do our annual wreath laying at the Washingtons tomb during the tour rather than the Sunday pilgrimage. Participants will be taken from the hotel by bus to and from Mount Vernon. Admission is good for all day, so participants may choose to stay past the C.A.R. tour and continuing exploring the museum on their own (but must make their own arrangements for return transportation to the hotel). The C.A.R. dress code is not in effect, but participants are encouraged to wear their Browsing History" t-shirt for the tour. 2

3 Saturday, April 21 Lunch Meal Option $16.00 This year we will again offer a pre-made bagged lunch option for attendees. They will be available for pickup at the business session break with the lunchtime being dependent upon the conclusion of the morning business session. Choose one of the following options: - Ham & Cheddar Sandwich - Turkey & Swiss Sandwich - Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich Each lunch will include the choice of water/soft drink and chips. Saturday, April 21 Awards Banquet Those wishing to sit together MUST indicate this when registering on-line. Seating is on a firstreceived basis. Banquet reservations received after April 6 will be assigned open seating. No one will be admitted to any part of the ballroom without a banquet ticket and registration badge. No banquet tickets will be sold without registration fee being paid. All members are encouraged to attend regardless of their age. All children/infants attending the banquet MUST purchase a banquet ticket. There are no exceptions. Roasted Chicken Breast, with Yukon Mashed Potato, Green Beans & Mandolin Carrots. This option is NOT gluten free... $32.00/person Sunday, April 22 Pilgrimage At Mount Vernon there is a half-mile walk on an uneven gravel road from the bus to the Tomb Grove where the installation ceremony takes place and an uphill walk when leaving. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Golf cart transportation down to the installation site is available if needed. Group Bus Transportation $30.00 Buffet Lunch 10 years and younger $30.00 Buffet Lunch 11 years and older $40.00 PHOTOGRAPHY NOTICE: Friday Evening through Sunday s Installation Ceremony, the C.A.R. s Professional Photographer will be taking pictures at National Convention events. The photos will be available free of charge on a website for 90 days after the Convention, compliments of Senior National President Joanne Zumbrun. Members and Seniors are asked to exercise restraint and take photos from their seats during the business sessions and the banquet rather than moving around the room and disrupting the proceedings. By attending the National Convention, you consent to use by the C.A.R. of your likeness (including the likenesses of your dependents) in any photographs taken at the event without limitation or compensation and irrevocably authorize the C.A.R. to edit, alter, copy, exhibit, publish, or distribute any photos taken of you or your dependents at this event for purposes of publicizing the C.A.R. or for any other lawful purpose. If you do not wish to consent to the uncompensated use of your likeness, you should not pose for any photographs and you must also notify the Senior National First Vice President in writing or by (nlgcar@aol.com) no later than 4 p.m. on April 21,

The group will travel by bus to Mount Vernon and arrive in time for the 8:00 a.m. flag-raising ceremony. Members should wear their Browsing History Regional Tour t-shirts. All participants should wear comfortable clothes and shoes. The dress code is not in effect. 8:00 a.m. FRIDAY TOUR at MOUNT VERNON (Wreath Laying at the Tomb at 10:30 a.m.). 9:00 a.m. Exhibit Setup National and Senior National Officers and Chairmen, National Vice 2:00 p.m. Presidents for the Regions, and Senior National Vice Presidents for the Regions. ONLY those who receive a Call to Board and are registered will be admitted. Forms will be available. Please visit the Merchandise Tables to purchase National President products and N.S.C.A.R. items. 3:00 p.m. Program Coordinator Meeting followed by Awards Meeting (STUDIO A) Member and senior chairmen (Color Bearers, Awards, Decorations, Pages and Aides, Music, Processions, Records and Materials, Tellers, Ushers and Protocol Chairmen) are required to attend. 3:15 p.m. All States C.A.R. member Chorus Rehearsal (Salon 4) 3:30 p.m. Senior National Vice Presidents Meeting (STUDIO F) The Senior National President will meet with the current and incoming Senior National Vice Presidents of the Regions and the incoming and current Regional Host States Senior State Presidents. 3:30 p.m. Color Bearers report for meeting with processions chairmen (Salon 4). Donations and volunteers are needed and much appreciated! 10:30 p.m.* Official Candidates Party (Salons 1-3) for all members and guests (under the age of 22). - 12:30 a.m. Admission by convention name badge. Alternates and other non-voters are seated elsewhere. Voting for National Officers will be held during the morning session. There will be no deviation from the Roll Call of States in voting. 11:45 p.m. DOORS OPEN upon conclusion of morning session for the lunch break. This time is tentative and dependent upon the conclusion of the morning business session. The National President will announce the length of the lunch break and when the afternoon session will resume. Tables are set up in the foyer outside the business room. Immediately following afternoon business session National Board Information Session (STUDIO F) (newly elected national officers and parents, current and incoming Senior National President and Senior National First Vice President). IMMEDIATELY following the conclusion of the Incoming National Officer meeting, ALL INCOMING National Officers MUST DEPOSIT $250 to cover the cost of insignia and ribbon. Midnight National Officers must return insignia, ribbon and box to Lisa McPartland, Senior National Chairman, Insignia and Ribbon. A table will be set up outside the dance in the Second Floor Foyer. 12:30 a.m. Georgia State Party Honoring National President Erin Moore (Salons 1-3) 2:30 a.m. All members and guests under the age of 22 years registered at the convention are invited to attend. 3:00 a.m. CURFEW Sunday, April 22, 2018 Pilgrimage 7:30 a.m. Seniors and Members assigned to Minibus A gather in the hotel lobby. 8:00 a.m. Pilgrimage attendees gather in the 2 nd floor prefunction area; we will go as a group to the rear of the hotel property; buses will load on 29 th Street. 8

9 8:00-8:30 a.m. Pilgrimage Buses depart for Mount Vernon from 29 th Street (behind the Renaissance Arlington Capital View). 9:15 a.m. National President s Wreath Laying at the Tomb of the Unknowns (Minibus 1 ONLY), Arlington National Cemetery. Please note: participants will have to go through security prior to walking to the Tomb of the Unknowns, so bring as little with you as possible and wear sensible shoes. The wreath party must report to the Tomb Guard at 8:45 a.m. 9:15 a.m. Arrival at Mount Vernon (all buses except Minibus A) At Mount Vernon there is a half-mile walk on an uneven gravel road from the bus to the installation area and an uphill walk when leaving. The National and Senior National Board meetings will be held during lunch in separate rooms. Only those included in the list below should attend the board meetings. 12:15 p.m. National Board Meeting - The National Officers and State Presidents, Honorary National Presidents who are current members, Senior National President, Senior National First Vice President, and Parliamentarian attend. 1:00 p.m. Special Senior National Board of Management Meeting - Special Senior National Board of Management meeting Senior National Officers, Current Senior State Presidents, Honorary Senior National Presidents, Senior National Honorary Vice Presidents, National President and Parliamentarian attend. 1:15 p.m. Minibus B departs Belle Haven 1:30 p.m. Remaining buses depart from Belle Haven Country Club 2:15 p.m. Memorial Service The Old Presbyterian Meeting House (OPMH) 323 S Fairfax St., Alexandria, Virginia. 10 Bus 3 General Loading For all not assigned to Bus 1 or 2. Note: There will be several buses numbered 3. Additional Information - If you are attending the entire Pilgrimage, make flight plans for 7:00 p.m. or later. - Buses should arrive at the airport by 4:30 p.m. - Tickets will indicate the bus assignment. - Bus captains on each bus will provide additional instructions throughout the Pilgrimage. - A free hotel shuttle service is available from Reagan National Airport to the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel every 15 minutes from 5:45 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily and stops at all terminals on a regular schedule. The shuttle also stops at the other Marriott properties in Crystal City. - RAIN PLAN: The installation ceremony will be held in Salons 4-7. Color Bearers Each State Society is asked to appoint a State color bearer (many states are appointing the incoming State President as their color bearer). We always need extra color bearers! Color bearers (boys or girls) MUST be physically capable of handling a large flag. Members interested in being a color bearer should check that box on their registration form and send the information requested on the Color Bearers interest form to Jeff Flick, Senior Color Bearer Chairman, at flickjd@gmail.com. All States C.A.R. Member Chorus Members wishing to be part of the special choral presentation should check that box on their registration form and send the information requested on the All States Chorus interest form to Sandy Zeles, Senior Director at zeles@sbcglobal.net. Additional Important Information Credential Forms Credentials Forms are due by March 15, All requests for change of voting status on Credentials Forms must be in writing and signed by the Senior Society President. Senior Society Presidents requesting substitution of names for Voters and Alternates not submitted on Credentials Forms MUST bring a copy of annotated Treasurer s Report as proof of payment of dues. Senior State Presidents do not have this authority. Changes will not be made unless presented in this manner. Memorial Service Names All current C.A.R. members, past National Officers, current and past Senior National Officers, past State Presidents, Honorary Senior National Presidents: current and past Senior National Honorary Vice Presidents; current and past Senior State Presidents: current Senior Society Presidents; Life Promoters; and current National Promoters who pass away during the year are remembered at the National Memorial Service in April. Names to be included in the Call of Remembrance for the Memorial Service must be reported no later than April 2, 2018, to: Deidre Grawl, Senior National Chaplain at ddgrawl@yahoo.com. Send full name, C.A.R. member or senior, highest state or national office, and society name of those who passed away between March 1, 2017, and February 28, Please include the names and addresses of family members who should receive invitations to the Memorial Service. Installation of Officers National Officers, Senior National Officers, State Presidents, Senior State Presidents, and Senior National Honorary Vice Presidents to be installed will assemble downhill from the Tomb of George and Martha Washington on the outside of the roped-off area. Senior State Presidents are responsible for ensuring that incoming State Presidents have their ribbons prior to Installation. Each person to be installed is responsible for having the ribbon to be used for the ceremony in his or her left hand. Incoming Senior State Presidents should check in advance with their predecessors to ascertain whether they are turning over their insignia and ribbon. Insignia and ribbon may be ordered from Hamilton Jewelers with proper signatures on the order form. Ladies/girls are reminded to wear white gloves. Newly Elected National Officer Meeting IMMEDIATELY following the conclusion of the Saturday afternoon business session, all newly elected National Officers and a parent/chaperone must attend the informational meeting which will provide national officer information, April 22 National Board meeting and critical details/requirements of the 2018 summer regional tour. National Officer Ribbon/Insignia Deposit IMMEDIATELY following the conclusion of the Incoming National Officer meeting, ALL INCOMING National Officers MUST DEPOSIT $250 to cover the cost of insignia and ribbon. Checks should be made payable to 11

12 N.S.C.A.R. or credit card information provided to Senior National Treasurer, Lori Walters, outside the ballroom. The Deposit will be returned at the end of the year, provided insignia and ribbon are returned in good condition. If any part is damaged, the cost of repair will be deducted from this deposit. If the insignia and ribbon are lost, the total amount shall be forfeited. Ex-National Officer pins, large insignia, and white ribbons will be available for purchase at National Convention. Chaperonage Senior State Presidents must assume responsibility for complete chaperonage of all members and guests from their states attending the convention. In carrying out this responsibility, the Senior State Presidents MUST be registered in the Renaissance Capital View Hotel while any C.A.R. members or guests from their states are in the Washington, D.C., area from Thursday evening through Sunday evening. No C.A.R. members or guests will be allowed to attend the convention unless they are assigned to the Senior State President or an alternate senior. This, in no way, relieves the Senior Society Presidents of the basic responsibility for their members and guests during the convention. Each C.A.R. member or guest must submit the Member/Guest Information Form to the Senior State President or alternate senior before the convention. Travel arrangements for members and guests must be made known to the Senior State President or alternate senior. The member or guest will provide the date and time of arrival, date and time of departure, means of travel, and hotel room number. Each member or guest must report to the Senior State President or alternate senior in person upon arrival at the hotel. The name of each C.A.R. member or guest must appear on the Occupancy Report Form. The Occupancy Report Form will be in the possession of the Senior State President or alternate senior at all times during the convention. The Senior State President, or alternate senior, must submit a copy of the Occupancy Report Form to Mike Elston, Senior Convention General Chairman, at the close of the Friday evening session. He will be located at the convention management table at the back of the room. Members and guests may not leave the function hotel during the duration of the function for any reason that is not part of the official function without the permission of his or her senior chaperone. Code of Behavior The Code of Behavior, Rules for N.S.C.A.R. Functions, printed in the convention program is in effect for the duration of Thursday pre-convention events and all National Convention events unless otherwise notated. Notifications of violations of the Code of Behavior shall be given in writing to the Senior Chairman of the Administrative Committee, Hans Jackson at hansejack@comcast.net. Election Code: Campaign Literature, Stickers, and Buttons Please read the Election Code for specific details. Distribution of campaign literature, stickers, and buttons IS NOT PERMITTED at any time during business meetings. Upon request, the Senior Advisor will advise candidates on the permissible TYPES of campaign materials, WHEN campaign materials may be distributed, and WHERE distribution of campaign materials is allowed. The Election Code states that a Judicial Committee composed of members and a Senior Advisor is to be identified to all attending the convention. All persons are advised to report, orally or in writing, to the Committee members or the Senior Advisor any suspected violation of the Election Code, particularly breaches of Campaign Ethics. They will travel (traveled) by (plane, bus, car) and will have (had) an opportunity to tour points of interest in the nation s capital. During the convention, National Officers for the C.A.R. year will be (were) elected, reports of State Presidents and National Chairmen will be (were) given, local society awards will be (were) made, and the Nation s Outstanding C.A.R. Society for this year will be (was) announced. Convention activities also will include (included) a candidates campaign party, the Awards Banquet and dance, and a party honoring the outgoing National President. Newly elected National Officers as well as State and Senior State Presidents will be (were) installed at ceremonies at George Washington s Mount Vernon. The Annual Pilgrimage will include a Memorial Service at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House, and a wreath laying at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier of the Revolution. DRESS CODE Amended October 12, 2009, April 14, 2011, December 7, 2013 The Mission Statement of the Children of the American Revolution states, in part, that the organization trains good citizens and develops leaders. This Dress Code is established to ensure that all the good citizens representing this organization, both members and seniors, present themselves in a professional, dignified manner befitting a leader. This Dress Code is in effect for all meetings of the National Society, including National Convention and Regional Meetings. Appropriate C.A.R. Attire Appropriate C.A.R. attire is always modest in length and exposure, well-fitting and allows the wearer to move, sit and work comfortably and respectably. Revealing clothing is not acceptable unless covered in a respectable manner. Appropriate attire is required for all members, adults and guests at all times. The Dress Code is in effect from start of the opening session on the first day until the end of the last scheduled event and any other event as noted in the program or call to meeting. Prior to an event, questions regarding whether an item is appropriate should be directed to the Senior State President. Business Sessions and all Public Areas of the Hotel In addition to the Appropriate C.A.R. Attire definition above, attire for business sessions must be businesslike and acceptable in a corporate board room. No jeans, sweatpants, flannels/pajamas, uncovered leggings, mini-skirts, or casual attire of any kind will be allowed. Appropriate dress shoes must be worn at all times. Ladies/Girls: Business suits with appropriate skirt; business dresses; dress skirts and blouses; equivalent military or civil servant uniform. Gentlemen/Boys: Suit and tie; sport jacket, slacks, shirt and tie; equivalent military or civil servant uniform. Coats may not be removed during the business session. Hats may not be worn indoors at any time, except when involved in a special presentation or event. Banquet and Formal Dance In addition to the Appropriate C.A.R. Attire definition above, attire for the banquet and formal dance must be acceptable at any Black Tie Optional gathering. No jeans, sweatpants, flannels/pajamas, uncovered leggings, mini-skirts, or casual attire of any kind will be allowed. Appropriate dress shoes must be worn at all times. Ladies/Girls: Evening gown; ball gown; respectable length dress; equivalent military or civil servant uniform. An evening wrap is suggested due to air conditioning. Gentlemen/Boys: Tuxedo; suit and tie; sport jacket, slacks, shirt and tie; equivalent military or civil servant uniform. Coats may not be removed during the Banquet or Formal Dance. Hats may not be worn at any time, except when involved in a special presentation or event. Relaxing of Dress Code Dress Code may be relaxed for special-themed events, parties or other casual events. Casual attire should be appropriate for the activity and conform to the Appropriate C.A.R. Attire definition above. Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times. The program/call to meeting will specify when the Dress Code has been relaxed and appropriate casual attire is allowed. Enforcement The Code of Behavior, which includes the Dress Code, is enforced by the Administrative Committee. During an event, questions and suspected violations of this code may be referred to the Senior Chairman of the Administrative Committee and designated senior leader for review and action as prescribed in the Code of Behavior. Issues and concerns not specifically outlined in this Dress Code will be addressed on a case-by-case basis. 14
