1 Sector Baltimore Member Training Schedule 9/12/2012 Please continue to send me your training opportunities. We need to know WHO WHAT WHERE and WHEN from INSTRUCTORS and others putting on events. Don t assume someone else has sent us the information. Please remember to include a contact person with phone or . I plan to send this out to you every MONDAY so please get your data to me prior to Monday. Thank you! I look forward to a great training year with you all!! NOTES: Check our District Website for additional information and registrations. District 5SR = The member-training website known as the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Virtual Classroom has moved to a new location, and is now called the Coast Guard Auxiliary Online Classroom. The new link (URL) to the Online Classroom is Members, member training officers, and unit webmasters should change all bookmarks, links, or other references to the old Virtual Classroom to the new site and address. All courses previously available in the Virtual Classroom should immediately be available at the new Online Classroom. Old user accounts and course completion history have been retired, as the new site uses automatically provides members with new and permanent accounts based upon the same Member Zone Credentials used for AuxDirectory, NTC, Webforms, etc. All Auxiliary members are encouraged to use the new Online Classroom. Support is available via the National Help Desk at Members should note that the on-hold Auxiliary Mandated Training Program courses as most recently referenced in ALAUX 011/11 ( Suicide Prevention, Privacy Awareness, et. al.) will not be available on this new platform. If anyone knows Auxiliary web location of mandatory courses, please let me know. Thanks! Nancy Gardner ADSO-MT Page 1 of 6 6:57:54 AM 9/12/2012
2 NOTE: TCT: See click on "Becoming qualified/training" on the left side. THE 2012 TCT stuff is all there. 3-Yr Rule in Reference to C Schools - Between the head of the Leadership Training Division, the CHDIRAUX and our DIRAUX Office it has been clarified that the rule restricting C-School attendance to once every 3 years does NOT apply to the AUXLAMS-A and B classes that are funded; they are considered a composite unit no matter in what sequence taken. Further the rule does not apply to C-Schools that are unfunded as was the case for most of you at AUXLAMS-B and for all at "A" in August. Further it was decided between me and our DIRAUX office that a STTR request is not required to be submitted to that office but simply to me; it must still go through the CoL but it doesn't need to go to DIRAUX at all. I will try to get the word to the DCDRs so they don't send those particular STTRs to DIRAUX. DSO-MT Leadership Academies: o DCDR/VCDR Richmond, VA Sept (District Annual Meeting) Register thru the D5SR website o FC/VFC/Staff Yorktown, VA Tentative Nov (7-9:30 PM Friday and all day Saturday) register on the District web site or with DSO-MT jcriley@vabb.com to secure berthing DCDR/VCDR session that will also be presented at Training Center Yorktown November Time to request AUXLAMS for your District / Division in FY2013! AUXLAMS (AUX02A & AUX02B) is the Coast Guard LAMS course, adapted for the volunteer Auxiliary environment, and is taught by Coast Guard trained instructors. It is based on the Leadership Competencies, which lay the foundation for all leadership skills necessary to successful leadership in the Coast Guard and the Auxiliary. This is a facilitated and interactive course dealing with Self Awareness, Motivation, Strategic Leadership, Team Building, Ethics, Conflict Management and Performance Problem Solving. AUXLAMS is the foundation course of the Auxiliary Leadership Continuum. The course is taught in 2 ½ day sessions at district locations, 3 to 5 weeks apart, arranged by the respective districts. Elected leaders at all levels of the organization should take this course and will be given top priority. However, Auxiliary personnel interested in becoming leaders are eligible for this course as long as the class size does not exceed 35 students. Auxiliarists are required to successfully complete a minimum of seven (7) credits from three categories of courses to receive the AUXOP qualification. The list of courses in the leadership category includes the Auxiliary Leadership and Management School (AUXLAMS). AUXLAMS is also a prerequisite for Flotilla Commanders (FC) to attend the Auxiliary Mid-Level Officers Course (AMLOC-05A). Nancy Gardner ADSO-MT Page 2 of 6 6:57:54 AM 9/12/2012
3 AUXLAMS recently received a favorable review by the Accreditation Council on Education (ACE) and has been recommended for 3 upper-division undergraduate college credits. This is the first Auxiliary course to be reviewed by ACE and the only one with a college credit recommendation. We have not been given the final word on the funding for next FY but it is assured that there is a decrease in the funding of a minimum of 34%. Interesting to note is that part of this decrease comes from people NOT turning in their travel forms after the training. Something we need to definitely encourage them to do in a timely manner after the training. It affects the future funds for the programs as we have discovered. FYI in FY % of the people attending C Schools on AFC-56 funded orders did not turn in a travel claim. Because of the uncertainly of the budget please request AUXLAMS classes in areas where you can put students in the classroom for both the A & B parts that will not require AFC-56 funded orders from TQC. Parts A & B need to be scheduled 3 to 5 weeks apart. Because of the college credit recommendation students must complete the entire course within this time frame. Students who have taken either A or B in the past are still invited to complete the course. If you are interested in hosting a class in your District / Division and wish additional information please contact me at michaelbrzezicki@sbcglobal.net. Respectfully, Michael J. Brzezicki, Ph.D. CWO4, USCG (Retired) BC-Auxiliary Leadership & Management School 8 hour TCT in Kilmarnock on Sept 7. POC is Walter Jachimski [wallyja@yahoo.com] D-TRAIN Starts Sept 28. Check the District Website for complete listing of program. Advanced Skills Weekend (ASW): October and October Info available on District Website. Students can prepare for some AUXOP courses by downloading materials from the National Member Training web site ( ). Questions about others can be obtained from the lead instructors listed in the attachment. NOTE: "Nav B" and "AUXSC&E" have perquisites: Nancy Gardner ADSO-MT Page 3 of 6 6:57:54 AM 9/12/2012
4 "Nav B" requires successful completion of "Nav A". AUXSC&E at ASW requires successful completion of AUXNAV (A and B) or successful completion of a specific "navigation skills exam" available only through Judy Julian (Lead Instructor) and administered by an AUXOP proctor. Students who wish to take the AUXSC&E course should consult with Judy Julian at jajulian@hughes.net to ensure certification of the pre-requisite as well as course registration by no later than September 30. A course description will be distributed in the next few days. Registration will be set up through the District web site at a later date. 5 Dates are finalized, class details & organization to be determined. Naturally the galley will be open for lunch so no one has to pack a lunch unless they want to and the galley opens for breakfast at 0800 for those students and instructors that want to take part in that meal. Let me know who would like to co-teach and which part of the course as the students don t want to hear from only one or two instructors for two weekends. Any members that want to sign up for the course to contact SO-MT Mike Houck at michael.houck@jhu.edu Fingerprint Technician Training FYI They are redoing the entire process and materials so all we have available at this time is the pdf study guide that you can find on the bottom of the Training Dept. website and the test at In addition to the test, the individual must send in 3 samples through their local DIRAUX office to the SECCEN who will then determine if they pass the practical. Each district handles it differently, and that is one reason they are redoing the process as a national policy. I don t have a date on when the new items will be available, but it should be sometime this year. FYI WEBSITE: We have the new (member) website up and running. The new website uses the AuxDirectory/AuxOfficer login with member id and member user zone password. For any member who needs a member user zone password, they can obtain one at: FYI NEW MEMBER website is The direct link is As you schedule training for the rest of this year, please let me know so that I can distribute to other Flotillas and Divisions. If you have any changes to above information please let me know ASAP and I will re-distribute. An updated listing will be sent to you via WEEKLY.
