3 FROM THE CLUB MANAGER Report for the month of February,2017 Total Sales $29, Cost Of Liquor: $12, Cost of Doing Business: $ 8, (Payroll,Taxes,Entertainment,Janitorial Etc.) NET PROFIT FROM BAR : $ 8, Transferred to General Fund $ 8, Welcome to April! We now have new key cards in. This year s version is a green card. For those of you who haven t received your new card, just show the bartender your current membership card to get your new door card. There is no cost to you. We now have a multiple station cell phone charger for your convenience. This charger was bought and donated by member Ron Brean. It is located in the East lounge on the table under the Hometown Hero message monitor. Please feel free to use that if you need a quick charge for your phones. Thank you Ron! It is the time of year once again to start thinking about running for an office. There is a sign up sheet on the message board in the main lounge. The SAL sign up sheet is on the SAL message board in the hallway and the Women s Auxiliary sheet is on their board also in the hallway. These positions are very vital to the operation of your Post and all members are encouraged to either run for an office or simply come out and vote! Post elections will be held on Tuesday, May 8 th. Polls are open from Noon until 6:50 pm. Make sure to have your current membership card with you. A special thanks goes out to Lee Flagg for all his hard work around our Post. Lee is our maintenance guy and keeps the building working properly. Lee also volunteers his time and energy by cooking his monthly rib dinner every fourth Thursday of the month. For those of you who have had this dinner know the work he puts into it. Also special thanks to Trudy Cromer who helps Lee with all the hard work that is involved in this dinner. As we enjoy our beautiful springtime in the desert, Lets all never forget all of our active duty personnel who are fighting for our freedom all over this globe. Please thank a Veteran for his service in ensuring our way of life! Commander s Message March is gone, and with April is upon us, the time for elections is also near. The sign-up sheet is hanging on our bulletin board, join me in my commitment to helping this post be the best it can be. The sign-up sheet is filling up, to include a couple of positions have several candidates in competition for. The Nominations committee is formed, Jack Nottingham, Gary Schlorf and Charlie Hall are committed to ensure we have qualified candidates. The second order of American Legion Commemorative Coins has been made. Awaiting their arrival They will be located behind the bar, and the bartenders can take care of you. The teller committee will be announced at the upcoming E-Board meeting. Come and experience the post leadership in action. This is an exciting time of the year. For the good of the legion. Steven C. 4 ALR April Article Children are the Future of the American Legion Family There has been much discussion and debate amongst the Riders recently concerning minors in the American Legion Family, and I respect everyone s opinion. I just want to take this opportunity to share my thoughts on the subject. I feel that there is a place for all eligible children in the American Legion Family, whether it be the Junior Auxiliary or the Sons of the American Legion. We should embrace this as a chance to be role models for these children. The same can be said for the American Legion Riders. We do so much for children and veteran programs, where if the minor was involved, would provide a positive impact in their upbringing. Imagine a minor s pride of being able to wear a leather vest showing that they are associated with the ALR, and the fact that they have such a great group of individuals who stand behind them and support them. A group that will be there to pick them up when they fall down, whether it is being bullied by other children or just going through some emotional hard times. The Legion Family is well known for looking out for their own members, and this should not stop at the adults. I am aware that there are organizations for minors, like Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, but so is the Junior Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion. These organizations were formed to assist the children of America s Veterans, and I feel that we all should embrace that to its fullest potential. Children and Youth is one of the four pillars that the American Legion encompasses, and it is up to all of us to assist these programs. Again, this is only my opinion, but our children are the future of the American Legion Family!!! Don Duckie Bracken President ALR Post 36 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!! Unit 36, Ladies Auxiliary Greetings Post 36 family, I am excited to report there has been a challenge made to help recruit new or established members to come back and enjoy all we have going on in our post. There will a gift for the lady/gentleman (any entity is welcome to participate) who brings the most new/renewal membesr by our next meeting. The challenge is to bring in as many new members or old members that haven t currently renewed. Auxiliary ladies gathered clothes to donate to the Stand Down program which helps our local homeless Veterans. Thank you ladies! This April we will start off the month with our delicious stuffed burgers. If you have not tried one, you are missing out. So come on down and give it a try. On April 14 th we will be making our yummy jello shots for the ALR meeting. Be on the lookout for tickets for our painting party on April 19 th. Our theme is Poppies, with the proceeds going towards our Poppy fund. Get your tickets while they last, if interested, there will more information where to purchase the tickets on the Auxiliary board. District 2 picnic on the 21 st from 12-3 along with Past Commander/ Past president dinner from 5:30-7:00. Caddy day is back on April 22 nd, if anyone interested does not have a caddy, there are a few ladies that have volunteered so just let us know. Signup sheets will be posted and the cutoff date will be April 8 th. If you have not signed up on or before this date we will not guarantee a spot will be available. As we wrap up April, we will be bringing back the rummage sale, which will be held on the 28 th and 29 th. Volunteers are needed and there will be signup sheets for these events on the Auxiliary board. May will begin with jello shots for Cinco de Mayo. Our delicious stuffed burgers May 3 rd, come on in and enjoy. Elections will held on our meeting May 10 th. We will also be having a Poker Run On May 19 th, with proceeds going to our Girl s State program. This is an awesome event for a great cause so come on out and have some fun with us. S.A.L. Commander Hello Legion Family members. Summer is nearly upon us which means our administrative year is winding down. But we still have things to accomplish so let s get to it. As you all know by now, our biggest fundraisers for Squadron 36 are our golf tournaments. We have two in 2018 that we are hoping for a big turnout. Our first is the annual Freedom Tournament, so named because it is held near the 4 th of July. It is currently scheduled for July 8. More details on that next month. The other is our annual Commander s Tournament held again this year at Canoa Ranch on October 14. We have an entire building of hotel rooms blocked off for us, so get your reservations in early. The rooms are wonderful and will fill up fast. As always, Burger Nights continue every Monday except for the first Monday of the month. Come down and have a delicious flame grilled burger and participate in our weekly raffle. Squadron 36 is also participating again in the Jim Click Millions for Tucson Raffle. First prize is a brand new Jeep Grand Cherokee, second prize is 2 first class, round trip tickets to anywhere in the world. Third prize isn t too shabby, $5,000 cash. Tickets are $25 each or 5 for $100. They will be available from any Squadron 36 officer following our next meeting on April 8. And finally, at that meeting on April 8, Squadron 36 will have elections of officers for the coming year. The meeting will start at 2:30 so if you are interested in voting, please attend our meeting.
