3 FROM THE CLUB MANAGER Report for the month November,2017 Total Sales $27, Cost Of Liquor: $10, Cost of Doing Business: $ 8, (Payroll,Taxes,Entertainment,Janitorial Etc.) NET PROFIT FROM BAR : $ 8, Transferred to General Fund $ 8, HAPPY NEW YEAR 2018!! Another year has gone by and another one has started. As we head onto the new year, let us all reflect on what we have to be grateful for and please keep all of our troops overseas that are still fighting for our freedom in our thoughts and prayers. A few notes of thanks to some of our members that have donated their time and money as of late. Thanks Frank Wilcek for painting our trash cans out front and for painting the outside of our doors in the main hall. Also, Thank you Frank for taking on the task of running down special light bulbs for our main hall. Thanks to Paul Perkins for his yearly generous cash donations at Thanksgiving and at Christmas! To Jack Kunkel for always maintaining the lighted American flag on the wall in the main hall and for touching up the chipped faucets in the men s bathroom. Another huge thanks goes out again this year to Gary Schlorf for his extremely generous donation of ten bicycles, a few wagons and several trikes to help make a few children very happy at the annual Kid s Christmas party. Our Women s Auxiliary, led by President Shelley Merritt always do a great job at that annual party. Thanks to Dave Lillie for once again lending his big red sleigh for Santa to make his dramatic entrance into the party! We here at Post #36 strive to keep prices down to give our Veterans a good meal and a good drink for a very low cost. It has been over five years since we have had a price adjustment at the bar and we have been absorbing the rising cost of beer and liquor during those years. As a result, the board has voted to institute a.25 cent increase across the board for all beer and liquor. We still have very low prices compared to industry standard and I hope everyone understands this minimal rise in price. In closing, I hope everyone has a very warm, safe and prosperous New Year in 2018! For God and Country Kevin J. Smith Commander s Message The holidays are almost over, and I hope everyone has made it through them safe and sound. December brought some success, as we hosted Carly s Christmas Wish, what a great turnout. The Children s Christmas Party was a great success as well, a slightly smaller attendance, but the same result of very happy kids. Although a very busy month, it was very gratifying nonetheless. In January we will hosting the Department Commander Saturday the 20 th, followed by the District two meeting the next day. I hope that Post 36 members show up in force to show the Commander that we are strong as ever. As some of you may have heard, we had the Pods in the rear of the post broken into. Several thousands of dollars of meat was taken, amongst other things. Additional security measures may be necessary. To be discussed at the upcoming meeting. Please attend if you have ideas on how to make us more secure. For those who have not read the meeting minutes I wanted to write this earlier, and I forgot. My apologies. The prices of drinks are going up 25 cents across the board. We have not raised prices for approximately 5 years. The cost of doing business is not getting any cheaper. 4 ALR January Article I want to take this opportunity to thank the Riders for a great year in 2017, and I know we have many more to come. I know, as family, we do tend to have our disagreements, what family doesn t? For 2018 I say we let bygones be bygones, and lets start anew. We have plenty to do to help us support our causes, and it will take each and every one of us to be successful in This photo was clipped from the SAVAHACS Volunteer Newsletter. Wow 2018 just snuck right up on us. What a busy year it has been. Thank you to all the ladies that have worked so hard to make all of our functions run so smoothly or perfectly for those last minute ideas. Thank you to all those who assist with putting together, setting up and coming in to support all our events. Spread the word and help to make these functions huge. We love what we do and who we do it for. With that being said we are going to have a fully charged year and need all the help we can get to continue to make these events successful and beneficial to our veterans. So stop on by or find something in the sentinel that may be just right for you to participate. We always look forward to seeing and working with new faces. I look forward to another great year with all the ladies and the entire legion families, together we can accomplish great things. We will be posting a calendar on our cork board in the hallway and it will give everyone information on our upcoming events and dinners etc. Happy New Year all! Commander Hello Legion Family members. It s hard to believe it is already The first half of this year has flown by, and I want to thank everyone for their support and hard work that has made this a very special year. We have accomplished a great deal and I know that will continue. This month s article is going to be short and sweet. I m going to start this month s submission talking about membership. With the new year upon us, that means that anyone who hasn t renewed their membership is now delinquent. By being delinquent, you have given up all of the benefits afforded to our members, as well as losing your club privileges at any American Legion Post worldwide. For example, as a member, you are entitled to assistance from The American Legion if a natural disaster strikes your house or property. Those who recently endured hurricanes in Texas and Louisiana know firsthand how valuable that coverage was. Paying your dues allows that to continue for you. I hope everyone reading this has paid up for 2018, for your own sake. Many of our activities have been on hold due to scheduling conflicts and the recent holidays, but I should have some updated news and dates for you next month. We already have the date for the Commander s Golf Tournament in Green Valley, but I ll give that to you next month with all of our other activities. That s it for this month.
