2 Editor s Note: Happy New Year! Welcome to our Central Chapter Newsletter. It s been a busy start to the year already for the ECF CF Chapter and it doesn t look like we re slowing down anytime soon. Thank you to everyone who participated in the annual ACT/ECF CF Chapter Clay Shoot. This year sold out in record time! Congratulations to World Electric Supply for taking home the winners trophy. This event is so much fun and by the way, all proceeds from the event will benefit the youth/pre-apprenticeship programs in Orange, Osceola & Seminole county (ACT program) and ECF s Roger Scroggins Apprenticeship Incentive Initiative! Check out the article for some pictures from the event. Also in this issue is a save the date for our next General Membership Lunch Meeting. You re in luck, Jason Kipfinger form Orange County and John Heidinger from the City of Orlando will be our guest speakers and will be discussing how the 2014 NEC will affect you. 3 The following is an regarding the recent rash of Supply House break-ins: Subject: Copper Thieves Greetings, I am the detective in Orlando currently working the copper theft at the CED location. This group has been active in the entire state. If anyone has a case please let me know so I can make sure the FDLE investigator is aware. The method is a lunch time visit when no one is usually in the warehouse area. They will inquire about a job or something if anyone contacts them. Then a distraction will take place while they look to cut the point of contacts on your alarmed doors. Please consider a secondary system besides your point of entry contacts. Once inside they are in no hurry as they assume your alarm is disabled. If anyone has had anyone suspicious with video please forward it to me so we can track where they are in the state for an arrest. Thanks and stay safe! Nick Nicholas Collins Detective, Orlando Police Department City of Orlando O: C: Who Are We? The Electrical Council of Florida Central Chapter PO Box Orlando, Florida On the web: ecfcentralchapter@gmail.com Join Today : Application located on last page of Newsletter ECF is a non-profit trade association, owned entirely by its members. ECF s primary purpose is to strengthen and unify all segments of Florida s Electrical Industry. ECF was started in 1961 by a core group of 22 individuals with a goal of unifying the highly fragmented industry. ECF is education, information, but most importantly, ECF is people. People who want to learn more, do a better job, and take pride in their craft.

5 ACT/ECF Annual Clay Shoot at BlackJack Sporting Clays The Academy of Construction Technologies and the ECF/CF Chapter held its annual fundraising clay skeet shoot on Friday, January 19th. This year the event was held at BlackJack Sporting Clays in Sumterville. 37 teams took aim and fired away for education. Congratulations to WORLD ELECTRIC who took home the first place trophy! All proceeds from the event will benefit the youth/pre-apprenticeship programs in Orange, Osceola & Seminole county (ACT program) and ECF s Roger Scroggins Apprenticeship Incentive Initiative. Complete pictures of the event can be viewed on the ACT website (photo gallery) at Congratulations to this years Tournament Winner World Electric Supply
6 Central Florida Electrical Apprenticeship Update The Florida Electrical Apprenticeship & Training, Inc. (FEAT) program held its Winter/Spring 2018 student registration during the months of November and December. The registration was one of the largest in history for the Winter/Spring term in 30 plus years that the electrical apprenticeship program in Orlando has been in existence. There are now over 600 registered electrical apprenticeship students taking classes at 4 Central Florida locations. Classes are held at Seminole State College in Lake Mary and at three Orange Technical College locations of Winter Park, Winter Garden and South Orlando. Apprenticeship Training Director, Steve Pirolli, said that we will only continue to grow as Central Florida is growing around us. Stay tuned!
7 Thanksgiving Basket Brigade of Central Florida Last Thanksgiving, as part of our community outreach, the ECF Central Chapter Board of Directors supported the Thanksgiving Basket Brigade of Central Florida. The Thanksgiving Basket Brigade donates and delivers decorated re-useable laundry baskets filled with food for a Thanksgiving Feast. These baskets are distributed locally to families in need during the Holiday season. We were extremely pleased to present 6 large baskets filled with all of the traditional Thanksgiving essentials. A huge thank you goes out to Kim Guay of Graybar Electric for presenting the idea of supporting this charity to the Board and to Nancy Merced of ACT for decorating and putting the baskets together! They looked amazing and served a great purpose.
