Forms on the black web page One of the goals of the Sheriff s Office is to go digital if at all possible when it comes to our paperwork. Much of our paperwork is already digital in the form of SmartCOP. We are trying to replace as many of our current paper forms with digital forms if at all possible. This saves taxpayer dollars, takes up less space in your trunk and just makes sense. To that end, there is a new folder available on the black web page, also known as CJNet. You will find a list of digital forms in the folder. Two of the newest digital forms are a digital Juvenile Civil Citation form and a Notice of Seizure of Property form. We will no longer be getting these forms printed. Both of these forms require at least two signed copies. That means you will have to print two, and get both of them signed, keeping one and giving one to the subject of the citation or seizure. Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics The Law Enforcement Torch Run is coming up April 19th for those who want to participate. Law enforcement officers from over 300 Florida agencies (police departments, sheriff s offices, Florida Department of Corrections, Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Drug Enforcement Agency, U.S. Customs, Air Force Police and Marine Patrol) all participate in the state-wide torch run to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Florida. Each year, over 5,000 officers carry the torch on a 1500-mile relay through 66 counties in Florida. Funds are generated through contributions from individuals and businesses along the way and through sales of the popular Torch Run T-shirts and caps. This event is held each year prior to Special Olympics Florida State Summer Games. The intrastate torch relay will start at the end of March and culminate at the Opening Ceremonies on May 17, Officers from around the state join together to bring the Flame of Hope into the stadium. Don t forget to come by and see Jo in Internal Affairs to purchase your hat or shirts for the run or Lt. Sweeney at the Key West jail. The list below shows what is available. All the dri-fit shirts are a pre-pay to order. Cotton shirts are available now. Youth scholarship available The Electronic Security Association, formerly the National Burglary and Fire Alarm Association, offers a scholarship to dependents of employees of police and fire agencies. The scholarship offered by the Florida Chapter is a $1,000 award and a $500 award, along with a chance to win a $10,000 national award. The deadline for the application is March 29th. The application is available in Public Folders - Announcements. Thunder Ride The 2nd annual Special Olympics Florida Keys Thunder Ride is Sunday March 17th. New Assistant Finance Director Hi I m Sandra Carlile the new Assistant Finance Director. I earned my B.A. at Florida Atlantic University and am proud to be the only Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) in the Keys.

I have been humbled by the warm embrace I have received from everyone and I look forward to meeting each and every one of you in the near future.

I cannot express how thrilled I am to be working with staff who value integrity and mutual respect as much as I do. This effort is part of an ongoing partnership between the Sheriff s Office and the School District to better prepare schools in the event of an emergency. Future leader attends leadership program! Martha Rose (Sissy) Paskiewicz, daughter of Sheriff s Office Communications Supervisor Yvonne Sprinkle (Det. Deb Ryan) and Andrew (KV Jail) (Nancy), has been chosen to represent Marathon High School at the American Legion Auxiliary Girl s State. She is a junior at MHS, Captain of the Varsity Cheerleading Squad, and participates in various community service projects/ events involving the children of her community. Academically, she is at the top of the junior class, with a 3.9 GPA and is dual enrolled through FKCC. Weekly Rap Up - Page 2 Upon graduation from MHS, Sissy wants to pursue a degree in Psychology and/or education. At Girl s State, delegates earn college credit in a comprehensive 9-day leadership course in state and local government, developed to offer youth a better perspective of the practical operation of government and to show that the individual is responsible for the character and success of government. Florida American Legion Girl s State is a leadership action program where qualified female high school juniors take part in a practical government course. It is designed to develop a working knowledge of the structure of government and to impress upon each delegate that our government is what we make it. They will have the opportunity to learn the political process. Each level of government will be run by those delegates who are elected to serve. Instruction will be presented on the law and court system, legislative procedure, and Florida political history.

The Sheriff s Office has recycling bins and receptacles in every office and recycles hundreds of pounds of paper, cardboard, cans, bottles and plastic each year, saving the taxpayers thousands of dollars each year. Linda Mixon and a group from Treasure Village Montessori spent the weekend camping and did a clean up at Pennekamp State Park using canoes and kayaks to reach remote areas of the mangroves. Above, airport deputies, security technicians and Customs officers worked together to capture this wounded Osprey which was hit by a plane at the Key West Airport this week.
