1 SSB SPOTLIGHT NEWSLETTER November 2010 Volume 1, Issue 1 Welcome to Our Newsletter! This pumpkin was carved by our very own Sylivia Monsivies of Secure Our Schools Message from Commander Campa I would like to take this time to welcome everyone to the Support Services Bureau Spotlight Newsletter (SSB). This newsletter will appear from time to time brining you the most up to date information on what is going on in the SSB. As you know the SSB is comprised of Communications, Community Services, Motor Pool, Training Academy, Strike Team, all Specialized Teams, Research, Planning & Development, Maintenance, Recruitment, Background Investigations, Animal Control, and Special Community Projects. I hope you all enjoy this newsletter as much as we enjoy putting it together for all of you. Thank you, Commander Jesus Eddie Campa Halloween Haunted House This years 2 nd Annual Halloween Haunted House was held at Bassett Place. The haunted house was constructed by the Explorers, Community Services, Commander Lopez s family, Strike Team, CREFS, Civil, Back Ground Investigators, and the SOS Section. The three weeks off horror attracted both adults and children alike. The Sheriff s Office would like to thank all of the volunteers for their hard work and dedication in making this event the huge success that it was. The proceeds from this event will be used to create the Scholarship program for graduating Explorers. We all had a lot of fun during this time and we look forward to more people participating next year as the 3 rd Annual Haunted House is scheduled to open on Thursday October 13, 2011.

3 Volume 1, Issue 1 Page 3 Amigo Air Show The Sheriff s Office participated in the Air Show held at Biggs Army Airfield. The event was coordinated by Deputy Rogelio Arreola who supervised and assisted in the event. The event was held on Saturday October 16 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday October 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event included the El Paso County Sheriff s Office Command Post, SWAT Armored Truck, Search and Rescue Truck, 2 Search and Rescue Razors, Unit 1010, New F , and the Classic 1953 Chevy Show Truck. The Recruiting Team was in attendance with Deputy Enrique Cortez and Detention Officer Carolina Perez who were ready to answer questions for future employees who were interested in working for the Sheriff s Office by passing out information pamphlets. Children ID Kits and souvenirs were also distributed. The SWAT Armored Truck and SWAT equipment were displayed to people by Deputy Darrel Rackley and Deputy Omar Montoya. Deputies were allowing children to try on vests and head gear while displaying weapons and explaining to people the situations when they are used. Parents were also taking pictures of the children with smiles on their faces that got a chance to try on equipment. The Search and Rescue Team had their Truck, 2 Razors, and equipment displayed by Deputy Armando Alvarez, Deputy Joshua Azpeitia, and Deputy Carlos Azcarate. Deputies displayed razors by allowing children to sit inside and also allowing them to see other equipment. Deputies answered questions and gave examples of situations to people on their job duties. Overall, the Air Show was a spectacular event that gave the community the opportunity to see the different units of the Sheriff s Office.
