Visit Our Website at 2 nd Vice CMDR With November upon us, your Programs Committee is working on how we are going to accomplish our projected goals for the year, along with providing budget input for our Finance Committee. Already, we have prepared a flyer, that will be posted on our website also, that outline the services and programs offered by Post 1. Feel free to download, copy (or forward) this onepage document to those interested in services/activities and AMVETS information that is supported, or hosted, by your post. Many organizations are having veteran s activities this month because of Veteran s Day (November 11 th ). Our service office, along with programs, will be attending some of the Resource or Job Fairs in our area throughout the month. Members are encouraged to help us man the booth. Programs have prepared information packages on all of AMVETS Scholarships & Contests, along with general information about AMVETS memberships, services and activities that may be handed out at these fairs or as requested. Program s Committee members are also posting current (and upcoming) events that we think you would be interested in. If you haven t taken a few minutes to check out the Bulletin Board in the main hall-way, please do so. Have you seen our website ( Our Communications / Public Relations Committee Chair, Dave Harris, has been busy creating information for preparation getting updated information from your elected officers ready to post on our website. Programs have helped him create data for a Our Partners in Assisting Veterans section in which you can go to and find service organizations for various needs (financial, housing, etc.). Check it out-click on the icon for Our Partners in Assisting Veterans and you ll find different categories to choose from. If you know of an organization assisting Veterans that is not listed, please contact me and I will get the update to our webmaster.

2 A special thanks for those participating in the AMVETS White Clover Program. Over $ was raised. Sgt Korey Bowens, SPC Caleb Wheeler and SPC Victor Orozco from Fort Lewis, graciously donated the plaques to give to our participants in appreciation for raising the monies for Wounded Warriors events. Mike Torres presented the plaques to our participating partners in October. Below are Dick and Carol from the Opals and Sue from Gerties accepting their plaques: A reminder to our wonderful volunteers help me highlight Washington s Post 1 to Department & National by filling out your volunteer hours. We re looking real good at this point of the Quarter to meet or exceed last year s total hours. Keep up the good work for our Veterans and AMVETS Post 1. Bob Bearden/2nd Vice, (253) , rbearden@comcast.net AUXILIARY CORNER AUX. MEETINGS: Our Business meeting is Nov 12th there will be no social meeting due to Thanksgiving Day. We re starting to fill our Kitchen Hamper for State Convention in June and need kitchen items. MEMBERSHIP: Annual Dues are $25.00/Life Membership is $ We always enjoy gaining new members, new ideas and above all - new friendships. Come join our team. BAKE SALE: Tuesday, Nov. 3rd from 6:00pm - 8:00pm - or sold out. AUXILIARY DINNER: Friday, Nov. 6th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Menu: Roast Beef, potatoes, veggie, salad and dessert - all for the low price of $7.50 Reminder: there will be no Auxiliary dinners in December 09 and January HOLIDAY BAZAAR: Saturday, Nov. 14th and Sunday, Nov. 15th in the upper hall. If you would like a table, sign up with Betty Schliech or you can contact Mel at the Post. Tables are $25.00 each/2 for $40.00 for 2 days. As usual, we will serve lunch on Saturday and Breakfast on Sunday. We ll need volunteers to help run the kitchen during this weekend. Mark your calendars! Great homemade Christmas items to be purchased!! HOLIDAY FOOD BASKETS: Thanks to the Post for donating 20 packages of New York steaks for our food basket drawing held Oct. 16th. The food

3 donations thus far have been low--we are in great need of food. The economy is struggling and the price of food has increased. As yet, we do not have enough food to make our baskets last a little longer than just the holiday dinner. These Holiday Baskets will be given to our widows and low income veteran's families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. There is a barrel located in the lounge for any nonperishable food donations and cash donations are always welcome. Cash or check donations can be placed in the Auxiliary Membership box marked "Food Baskets". DSHS "GIVING TREE": Each year we make scarves and collect new winter items for the "Giving Tree". We still fleece donations and your valuable time. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: If you re wondering why I m always asking for volunteers - well, we need help. Please take a few hours out of your all ready busy schedule to work with our Veterans - it is so rewarding and I know you will feel wonderful about it. JOHN TRACY BEARS: We reached my personal goal of 100 bears and even more on the way. You all are truly awesome - THANK YOU! RUMMAGE SALE: Thanks to all who donated & volunteered to make this a great success. SCHOLARSHIP DRIVE: And the Winner of the candy jar is - Diane Beal, who came the closest with a guess of 900. The actual number of candy was 908 pieces. We raised $ for the Scholarship Fund. Thanks to all the members and guests here at the AMVETS who paid to make guesses and support our cause. DONATION REQUESTS: We need fleece to make scarves. Non-perishable food items for our Holiday baskets. New Kitchen items for hamper at Convention. Respectfully submitted, Charrie Hayward, 2nd Vice SONS OF AMVETS Our next meeting is Tuesday, Nov. 7:00pm in the lounge. There has been a great turnout at our meetings lately. The enthusiasm is high-it s nice to have new ideas and new faces. We d like to welcome our newest Lifetime Member, Theodore Minshall. And, thanks go to our Commander, Thomas Arter for his enthusiastic approach to running our meetings and encouraging camaraderie among the Sons. Recently, there have been issues with new applicant eligibility for the Sons of AMVETS. If your relative is not an AMVETS member, he/she is required to join the AMVETS prior to you joining the Sons. If he/she is deceased, you are required to submit a copy of their DD Form 214 and a copy of their death certificate. The proper documents must accompany the Membership Application along with annual dues. The Service Office can help you obtain a DD Form 214 and check eligibility. If you are going to sign up potential member, you need to inform the applicant of the required documentation needed. This information is printed at the top of the application.

4 Annual dues have to be submitted by December 31 st. Check your membership card - if it says "2009" you need to renew. Dues are $40.00 Annual and $ Lifetime. Volunteering is as easy as helping a Veteran neighbor or helping around the Post and Ladies Auxiliary. And don t forget to get credit for your volunteer hours: Pick up your blank volunteer slips in the hallway, next to the bulletin board. If you need help to fill it out, do the best you can and bring it to the meeting for help. All volunteer time is tax deductible for the Post and helps keep our non-profit status - every hour helps. Check out the Sunday Morning Breakfast starting the 1 st. Also in November will be the Auxiliary Bazaar on the 14 th and 15 th. The Lounge will be closed Thanksgiving Day on the 26 th and we hope you all have a great Thanksgiving. December starts offs with the Department Christmas Party on the 11 th and DEC on the 12 th. Kids Christmas Party will be from 6-8 on the 20 th and the New Years Eve Party is on the 31 st. Many things happening so tear off that calendar and put it on the fridge. Convert your membership: If you are an Annual post member who has paid your Annual membership dues for 2010, who would like to convert to Life Membership, you can either pay the $ up front, or make five consecutive $32.00 minimum payments, and when the $ is paid in full, I will submit you for Life membership. Membership: As of October 8th, Post 1 membership stands at 508 annuals and 1,332 life members, totaling 1,840 members. As of October 8th, 200 Annual members have renewed for 2010, leaving 299 still to renew. Your membership is important to the post, so please renew.
