Well I am the FOUNDER CHAIRMAN of IIIE. In 1957 on February 9 th, I along with Padmabhushan Prof. NS Ramaswamy, SS Rangnekar, Duleep Singh, Thomas, Dighe, Chacko, Pannikkar, KS Menon, Nayar and a few more persons totaling eleven, established this wonderful institution. The meeting was held in the IBCON Offi ce at Adelphi Queens Road, Bombay. IIIE has been on Growth Path specially during last six years. There has been unprecedented growth of the Institution. Nine new chapters have been established covering the Industrial Belt of India. Dormant chapters have been activated to such a level that three of them have organized International Events. Many new programs like International Conferences on SCM, Convocation, PG Course in IE, Felicitation of Veteran Industrial Engineers, National Productivity Competition, All India Essay Competition, Students Paper Presentation Competition and Institution of Students awards at IITs/NITIE/ Reputed Universities have been started. Many value added activities like students VIVA, Establishment of Training Centre and Centre of Excellence are being successfully carried out. Above all quality of management has very much improved making IIIE a viable Institution. All these have been possible due to the Visionary Leadership of Cdr Bhaskar M Bhandarkar (Retd.). Steering the professional Institution to Globally vibrant level requires a great amount of Sacrifi ce, Zeal, Dedication, Perseverance and Institution Building Skills. I am happy that Bhandarkar has drawn an ambitious Roadmap for the Growth of IIIE and I am sure that in my centennial year we all shall be able to witness further laurels to IIIE. It draws upon specialised knowledge and skill in the mathematical, physical & social science together with the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design to specify, predict and evaluate the results to be obtained from such systems. The Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering (IIIE) was founded in 1957 as a non-profi t organisation and a Registered Society for propagating the profession of Industrial Engineering in India and is a Registered Public Trust under the Bombay Public Trust Act, It is dedicated to the advancement of Industrial Engineering Education and practice and to the application of such scientifi c knowledge to assist in the management of all endeavours. The Institution has Thirty Chapters established all over India. The Graduateship Examination conducted by the Institution is recognised by the Government of India as equivalent to a Bachelor s Degree in Industrial Engineering. The IIIE has instituted many honours and awards for various achievements and outstanding contributions to the IE Profession. Chief Guest Mr. Ramesh Kherderkar, President, IIIE, Kanpur Chapter, graced the occasion. Special Guest was Mr. RL Tayalia, Ex.GM, HR, Vedanta Group, President of the chapter.
