Cantalupo Scholarship Caterpillar (Diversity) Excellence Scholarship David Abrahamson 61, became president and CEO of Medicine Shoppe International. This scholarship is awarded to outstanding students from Illinois in his memory. Established in 2001, this award is provided by the late Mary Sparks Alley to assist deserving students in the College of Business. This award recognizes a graduating senior in Alpha Kappa Psi who has the highest grade-point average. Undergraduate award established in memory of Thomas Aplington. Awards are based on academic excellence, extracurricular activities and financial need. This undergraduate award is presented to students with a superior record of academic and extracurricular achievement. It was established by Roy Belnap, 22, in honor of his father, Hiram. BP America, a corporate partner of the College of Business, established this scholarship for outstanding business students. This award, funded by the College of Business Alumni Association, is presented to an outstanding student. It is based on a review of academic merit, extracurricular activities, and community service. Upon her retirement in 2001, the Business Council established this scholarship to honor Alice Waldoff s dedication to the Council and to the College of Business. Waldoff served as adviser to the Business Council for more than six years, during which time the Council greatly improved membership, involvement and service to the college. This award is made annually to recognize outstanding members who have made a significant contribution to the college. This scholarship, established through an anonymous gift by a loyal alumnus, is based on academic excellence. Funded by the College of Business, this scholarship provides financial support for College of Business undergraduates who are participating in one of the many international programs sponsored by the college. This need-based scholarship is presented to one incoming male undergraduate and one incoming female undergraduate student. It is renewable for up to four years as long as the awardee remains enrolled in good standing in the college. Caterpillar supports the efforts of the College of Business to promote excellence and diversity with scholarships to outstanding students. 1

It was established in memory of Marcus Franklin Cord, 37. This scholarship, established by the family and friends of V. Dale Cozad, provides for undergraduate students to concentrate on entrepreneurship. Cozad was initially a very successful insurance agent who then leveraged his success into a well known local and regional investment firm bearing his name. The scholarship recognizes Cozad s many contributions to his community, his university and his family. This scholarship was established by Milton F. Darr Jr., 42 and his wife, Margaret, to students majoring in finance and have a specific interest in banking. The scholarship may be in conjunction with the College of Business Honors Program. The scholarship, established by the estate of Gloria A. and Paul M. Dauten, provides need-based scholarships to academically qualified undergraduates enrolled in the College of Business. The Elledge Scholarship honors Juanita Elledge whose dream was to have her six children attend college. Though she never had the opportunity to attend, the scholarship supports awards to students in the College of Business from Edgar County. Emerson Cammack served the University of Illinois for 41 years, including as associate dean of undergraduate affairs in the College of Business for more than 20 years, before his retirement in This scholarship was established through the gifts of former students and friends in recognition of Dean Cammack s service and dedication to undergraduates in the College of Business. 2

Hall Scholarship This undergraduate award, established by Dorothy E. Fletcher in memory of her brothers, Charles L. Fletcher, 29, and Garland B. Fletcher, is based on academic excellence. This scholarship is awarded to freshmen who show particular promise in their field of study. Recipients are chosen by review of their high school academic records and university placement information. The Hugh W. Frey Scholarships are used to recruit outstanding students to the College of Business and recognize strong academic, extracurricular and leadership records. This scholarship is awarded to College of Business students with demonstrated academic achievements. It was established by Ethel K. Fuermann in memory of her husband, Warren H. Fuermann, 32. Warren Fuermann was vice president of Fidelity & Deposit Co. of Maryland in Milwaukee. This award, established by the late Esther Fulton in honor of her husband, Paul C. Fulton, 23, is given to an outstanding College of Business student based on academic merit, extracurricular activities and community service. This undergraduate award, established by Jerome, 41, and Shirley Gore in memory of their son, is based on academic excellence and participation in extracurricular activities. Jerome Gore was chairman emeritus of Hartmarx Corp. This scholarship is made possible by Howard A. Graening, 50, and Peggy Pool Graening, 50, recognizing an outstanding student in either accountancy or marketing. Thomas R. Green funds merit scholarships for outstanding College of Business students. The Groesbeck Scholarship honors Harold E. Dustin, a lifetime farmer in Galva, IL, and is awarded to outstanding College of Business students. Awarded to students based on academic merit, strong community involvement and service to the College of Business and Illinois. The scholarship was established by June Gustat to honor the memory of her husband, Jim Gustat, 27. This merit scholarship is presented to an undergraduate majoring in accountancy. Funded through the generosity of the late Leiby S. Hall, 54, and a Decatur businessman, the Leiby S. Hall Scholarships are presented to juniors and seniors in the College of Business. Awards are based on academic merit, leadership activities, community involvement and need. 3

Lauber Scholarship Dawn & David Lehmann Scholarship Mary Lyon Scholarship The College of Business awards these scholarships each year to provide multiple study abroad and domestic travel opportunities which have a humanitarian/sustainability purpose. It is also the preference of the donors to make half of the scholarships available to students pursuing a career in teaching. Preference is given to students from under-represented minorities, with a demonstrated financial need. The Heiken Scholarship provides support for a College of Business student who is about to enter his or her senior year, who is in good academic standing and who majors in either marketing or finance. The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize Illinois students with sustained records of self-support activities while enrolled as a college student with a substantial contribution to their college expenses. Edward, 72, and Maisie Heiken, 89, ask that preference be given to students who have completed or accepted an internship. This award is presented to an undergraduate student majoring in finance, accounting or marketing to help defray in-state tuition and fees. The supporting gift was made by Cynthia M. Helle, '85, and Daniel G. Helle, '84, and is presented each year to a U.S. citizen with evident financial need. The Illinois Venture Capital Association funds three scholarships and three internships for sophomore or junior College of Business students interested in pursuing a private equity or venture capital career. Funded by the College of Business, James Scholars who fulfill a program requirement by participation in an international program sponsored by the College of Business or the University of Illinois are eligible for this scholarship. Ronald D. Jeffris, 61 funds this scholarship for students with strong academic and leadership records. The Lowell Johnson Scholarship funds students in the College of Business who graduate from a high school in Rock Island, Merce, or Henry counties in Illinois. Peter M. Labadie, 82, and Suzanne L. Saxman, a 1983 graduate of the College of Law, fund this academic-merit scholarship for undergraduates in the College of Business. Lauber scholarships are awarded to outstanding College of Business students. This scholarship is presented to a freshman student with financial need. Mary J. Lyon, 51, died February She originally lived in Gibson City, Ill., and later in Minnesota with her family. 4

Morton Scholarship The criteria for recipients of this scholarship include academic merit, community service and extracurricular activities. Marie E. Madigan was a 1935 graduate of College of Business. This award is given to a student in the College of Business who demonstrates leadership ability and service to family, the college and community. Funded by the family and friends of Michael K. Magill, 72, 73, this memorial award is also based on merit. This award is presented to College of Business students concentrating in international studies based on their academic merit and financial need. The award is funded by the family, friends and co-workers of Gerald M. Marks who graduated from Illinois in The Robert Mautz Honorary Scholarship was established by Thomas B. Sleeman 54 in honor of professor Robert Mautz. Mautz was greatly influential in Sleeman s experience at Illinois. Recipients are enrolled in the department of accountancy and are selected based upon academic performance and potential for leadership. This award is given to students concentrating in international business who have a record of high academic achievements. The Mead Family Foundation, heirs of the late Gordon V. Mead Sr., 29, established this fund to honor his memory. This undergraduate award was established by multiple donors in honor of Lois Meerdink s retirement after 20 years of service in the Business Career Services. Mesirow Financial Inc., a corporate partner of the College of Business, provides scholarships to undergraduate students in the College of Business Honors Program. The Miller Scholarship is awarded to outstanding undergraduates who are members of Alpha Kappa Psi and who demonstrate a sincere appreciation of the roll of free markets in the United States. The award is funded by Harold V. Miller, 47 and his wife, Caroline H. Miller. The late Herbert Moede, 43, 49, a WWII veteran in the Army Air Force, established this scholarship to provide financial assistance to Illinois natives who graduate from Illinois high schools and who value hard work. John Louis Morton, 37, retired in 1981 after 35 years in the accounting department of the Del Webb Corp. in Phoenix. He died in Established by his wife, Ruth, in his memory, the award is given to students majoring in either accounting or business administration. 5

6 Chris Perry Scholarship This scholarship, provided by Chris Perry, 77, provides assistance to a student in the College of Business based on academic merit. Preference is given to graduates of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Chicago or St. Martin de Porres High School in Waukegan. 6
