1 SUPPORT FOR EDUCATION JANUARY 2018 Within the broader scope of the Louis Berger company and employee giving, education is one of our special focus areas and we are proud to continue the legacies of founder Dr. Louis Berger and Fredric Berger for supporting personal and professional development through education. The Berger Family, the Louis Berger company, and now the Berger Charitable Foundation, Inc., support educational endeavors around the world, from Rutgers University and the New Jersey Institute of Technology to Kabul University, the American University of Afghanistan, the International Road Federation and others. Louis Berger Graduate Fellows Program, The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy, Rutgers University In 2009, the Louis Berger company established the Louis Berger Graduate Fellows Program at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University. Following an application and evaluation process, up to four Bloustein School graduate students, who are working toward master s degrees in city and regional planning or in public policy, are selected for a comprehensive fellowship award that provides financial support during their second year of study. Each fellow also completes a full-time summer internship assisting Louis Berger project teams on infrastructure assignments around the world. Since 2010, 28 Bloustein graduate students have been awarded fellowships. As part of their internship experience, Louis Berger Fellows for 2016 participated as project team members working in France, Panama, Washington, D.C., and Qatar. Between 2009 and 2016, the fellowships have been funded annually by the company for graduate students currently enrolled at the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers University.
2 Louis Berger International Scholar Award, New Jersey Institute of Technology In 1997, Dr. Louis Berger established the Louis Berger International Scholar Award at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). The award is intended for students pursuing graduate education in fields consistent with the worldwide activities of the company. These fields cover most majors offered by NJIT but students in Architecture, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Transportation, and Management generally have preference. Priority is given to a new Master s or PhD international student who enrolls for the first time in the fall semester. To date, the program has provided scholarships to 12 students. Xiaolu Wang, a doctoral student from China, was named the 2013 recipient of the Louis Berger International Scholar Award; Zhong Sun, a Master s candidate in mechanical engineering from China was named the 2014 award recipient; Omoghene Ovuakporie, a Master s candidate in architecture from Nigeria, was the 2015 award recipient, Sherri-Ann Tim Kee, a Ph.D. candidate in chemical engineering from Trinidad and Tobago was the 2016 award recipient and Yuan Zhu, a Ph.D. candidate in chemical engineering from China was the 2017 award recipient.
