1 Arizona Sawyers Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 1971 by Denabelle Sawyers Linville in memory of her sister, Arizona Sawyers, to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarship awards to deserving female students, who are or are expected to be enrolled at OSU and who intend to pursue a teaching career. Eligibility Criteria: Oregon resident; priority consideration given to female students, who intend to pursue a teaching career; high school senior entering college to doctoral student may apply. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Arizona Sawyers Scholarship Endowment Fund. The amount of the award and number awarded will be determined by the scholarship committee, but the dollar amount should not exceed the sum normally required for tuition, fees, books, room and board for the academic year. Renewable: If circumstances warrant, an award may be provided to the same student for more than one or more award years.

2 Clayton K Dart Memorial Fellowship Fund Purpose: Established in 1990 by Mildred Dart in memory of Clayton K. Dart to provide fellowships to graduate students at OSU, who are enrolled in a Teacher Education Master s Program within the College of Education. Preference will be given to students, who are planning to teach a vocational or technical field area. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Students, who are preparing to be educators through a Master s program; (2) Students, who have demonstrated high scholastic achievement by obtaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above; (3) Students, who demonstrate financial need; (4) Preference will be given to graduate students, who are planning to teach in a vocational/technical area. Award Amount: Varies $500-$1,000. Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Clayton K Dart Memorial Endowment Fund. The amount of the award and number awarded will be determined by the scholarship committee.

3 College of Education Scholarship Purpose: Established in 2002 by a collection of many gifts to provide scholarships for students in the College of Education. Funding: Various contributions have been received by the OSU Foundation. Eligibility Criteria: High school senior entering college to doctoral student may apply. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the university current use funds generated. The amount of the award and number awarded will be determined by the scholarship committee. Renewable: No.

4 College of Education Graduate Fellowship Purpose: Established in 1990 by Florence Aasen Annuity to establish a Dean s discretionary scholarship to be awarded as funds are available. Funding: Various contributions have been received by the OSU Foundation. Eligibility Criteria: Open to Master s or doctoral students in the College of Education pursuing graduate degrees. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the university current use funds generated. The amount of the award and number awarded will be determined by the scholarship committee. Renewable: No.

5 Denabelle Linville Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 1973 by Denabelle Sawyers Linville to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarship awards to deserving students, who are or are expected to be enrolled at OSU and who intend to pursue a teaching career. Although the Linville guidelines do not specifically speak to awarding female students, Mrs. Linville s intent was clear that the scholarship funds should be awarded to female students. Eligibility Criteria: Oregon resident; priority consideration given to students, who intend to pursue a teaching career; high school senior entering college to doctoral student may apply. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Denabelle Linville Scholarship Endowment Fund. The amount of the award and number awarded will be determined by the scholarship committee, but the dollar amount should not exceed the sum normally required for tuition, fees, books, room and board for the academic year. Renewable: If circumstances warrant, an award may be provided to the same student for more than one or more award years.

6 Dr. Daniel D. Anstine Memorial Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 2013 by Rosalyn Anstine Templeton to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarship awards to support students with at least junior class standing in the College of Science, who have been accepted into the professional program in the College of Education with an interest in pursuing a professional teaching license in science. Eligibility Criteria: Recipients must carry a GPA of 3.0 or higher; be of at least junior class standing in the College of Science; and have been accepted into the professional program in the College of Education with an interest in pursuing a professional teaching license in science. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Dr. Daniel D. Anstine Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund. 7 Dr. Janet Burpee Porter 49 Endowed Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 2015 by Janet Burpee Porter to provide financial assistance in the form of scholarship awards to support students with financial need in the College of Education. Eligibility Criteria: Students in the College of Education with financial need. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the endowment fund. The amount of the award and number awarded will be determined by the scholarship committee. scholarships and fellowships.

8 Ella P Hill and William W Hearn Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 2005 by Daniel W. Hearn and Gloria E. Castro Hearn to prove a scholarship fund to benefit OSU students in the College of Education Double Degree program. In the event there are no qualified applicants, the scholarship shall not be awarded and interest income will be reinvested in the principal. Eligibility Criteria: Recipient is a full-time education student or Double Degree student at the university. First preference will be given to those pursuing an endorsement in Technology Education, then to a student planning to teach in the following areas listed in priority order: engineering, math, or science. Award Amount: Multiple scholarship awards of not less than $2,500 (not to exceed three) may be awarded and/or renewed each year. Renewable: Yes, as long as the recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements as a student pursing Technology Education or the Double Degree Program.

9 Elwood J Keema Fellowship Fund Purpose: Established in 1984 by contributions from the Estate of Ruth Keema to provide fellowships to graduate students at OSU, who are enrolled in a Teacher Education Master s Program within the College of Education. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Students, who are preparing to be educators through a Master s program; (2) Students, who have demonstrated high scholastic achievement by obtaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above; (3) Students, who demonstrate financial need. Award Amount: Varies. Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Elwood J. Keema Endowment Fund. The amount of the award and number awarded will be determined by the scholarship committee.

10 Forrest and Susan Lindsay College of Education Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 2015 from the estate of Susan Lindsay. The Forrest and Susan Lindsay College of Education Scholarship Fund will be used to support students in the College of Education Eligibility Criteria: College of Education student. Award Amount: The amount of the award and number awarded will be determined by the selection committee. scholarships and fellowships and at the discretion of the College of Education Dean.

11 Forrest Gathercoal Memorial Scholarship Purpose: Established in 2013 by Joan Baines Gathercoal in memory of her late husband and former College of Education Assistant Dean and Professor Emeritus, Forrest Gathercoal, to provide scholarships to students in the College of Education. Eligibility Criteria: College of Education student. Award Amount: Not specified.

12 Fred K Thompson Memorial Fellowship Fund Purpose: Established in 1993 through Bob Farnes of IDS (OSU 86) in the form of an outright gift. The gift has been placed in an endowment and only a portion of the income will be expended for fellowships. Eligibility Criteria: (1) The student shall demonstrate financial need; (2) The student shall show commitment and promise in his or her career choice; (3) The student shall maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, cumulative. Award Amount: One fellowship will be awarded annually from a portion of the interest earned on the endowment account. Any available monies not awarded in a particular year shall either be added to the principal or retained for award together with the available monies of the following year as determined by the Dean of the College of Education.

13 Fred W Fox Scholarship in Science Education Purpose: Established in 1996 by Bryce and Kathleen Hixson to provide scholarships in science education and because of their appreciation and admiration of Professor Fox s inspirational teaching and commitment to science education. Eligibility Criteria: Students admitted to pre-service teacher preparation programs, who demonstrate academic achievement and potential for a promising career in science education. Award Amount: Fellowships will be awarded annually from a portion of the interest earned on the endowment account. The scholarship committee will consider (a) scholastic achievement; (b) recommendations from faculty; (c) need extracurricular activities; and (d) an essay describing enthusiasm for teaching, a positive attitude, and exceptional experience in working with school-age youth in science.

14 Hagen Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 2004 by Ron and Marguerite Hagen to provide scholarships for students pursuing a teaching license in the College of Education. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Recipients is a student pursuing a professional teaching license; (2) Recipient shall have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above; (3) Preference will be given to applicants, who have volunteered or have experience working with children in a classroom setting; (4) Recipient has expressed a passion for teaching (it is understood that this is difficult to judge, but the Donors would appreciate their scholarship being awarded to this type of student); (5) Financial need may be considered, but is not required. Award Amount: The number and amount of awards will be determined by the College of Education Scholarship Committee. Renewable: All scholarships awarded hereunder shall be for one academic year. Previous recipients may be considered if they again meet eligibility criteria.

15 Helen Kruchek 40 Endowed Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 2013 by Keith Kruchek in memory of Helen Kruchek to provide scholarships for students in the College of Education. Eligibility Criteria: Recipients are selected in accordance with the University s policies and procedures for awarding Award Amount: The number and amount of awards will be determined by the College of Education Scholarship Committee.

16 Herbert R & Leota L Laslett Memorial Purpose: Established in 1999 by the income from the Martin N. and Lora L. Kelly Charitable Remainder Unitrust to provide scholarship assistance to both undergraduate and graduate students, who are American citizens pursuing a teaching career. Eligibility Criteria: (1) US citizen; (2) Demonstrated interest in their subject by work experience or some other measurable item as determined by the scholarship committee; (3) Academic achievement as measured by the GPA being in the top 40 percentile in high school, in college, or in an SAT/ACT-type test; (4) Participation in outside activities as demonstrated by high school or college activities, such as sports, scouts, or civic activities; (5) Major consideration is to be given to a student, who has had a break in his/her education process and is coming back to college after working in educational-related jobs; (6) the student must maintain a GPA of 2.5 (3.0 for graduate students) or above; (7) Prefer student, who views internship programs as a quality enhancement to their degree; (8) Enrolled and in good standing as an undergraduate (freshman through senior) or a graduate (Master s only) student working toward obtaining a state teaching license. Award Amount: The scholarship should be from half- to a full-ride (tuition, books, and living expenses) as the economic needs of the applicant indicate. Living expenses are to be determined by the average dormitory room and board charges. Living expenses can be given in cash if the student lives off campus. Renewable: The student should continue to receive the scholarship until he/she earns his/her BS degree as long as the GPA is 2.5 or above. If the recipient of the scholarship is an undergraduate student, who continues in a Master s program, he/she shall be required to reapply and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above. The student will continue to receive the scholarship until he/she receives a Master s degree as long as the degree is received in the reasonable allotted time for achieving a Master s degree.

17 Herman & Lois Miller Scholarship Purpose: Established in 1988 by Marilyn Shelburne in memory of her parents, Herman and Lois Miller, to provide scholarships to older students returning to school, who are dedicated to teaching. Eligibility Criteria: (1) The student should be preparing to teach and enrolled in the College of Education; (2) The student may be a graduate or undergraduate, especially, but not confined to, an older student returning to school; (3) The student should have a minimum GPA of 2.5; (4) The student should be a US citizen no residency requirement is needed; (5) Financial need should only be a secondary consideration. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Herman & Lois Miller Scholarship Fund.

18 Jacquelin Springer Burrill Memorial Golden Apple Award Fund Purpose: Established in 1995 by the family of Jacquelin Burrill Springer to provide scholarships to Teacher Education students with a preference for math or science education. Eligibility Criteria: Any Teacher Education student with a preference for math or science education is eligible to apply. There is no restriction as to residence or gender of fellowship recipients. Award Amount: A total of $1,100 shall be expended for the award and will include a $1,000 award and $100 for an appropriate plaque.

19 Janet & Ron May Merit Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 2005 by Janet and Ron May to provide scholarships to graduate students enrolled in the College of Education. Preference will be given to Adult Education Master s degree students. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Recipient is a full-time graduate student enrolled in the College of Education, preferably in the Adult Education Master s degree program; (2) Recipient shall have demonstrated academic excellence in undergraduate work, defined as a 3.5 GPA for the last 90 credits of in undergraduate degree; (3) Recipient shall demonstrate community or school leadership and/or service with preference given to individuals with 4-H background as either a member or volunteer leaders; (4) If no Adult Education Master s degree student applies, advanced work in the following areas will be considered: community college teaching/leadership, corporate training, 4-H or volunteer program leadership, double-degree (especially in math and science), but student must have already received an undergraduate degree; (5) Financial need shall not be a criterion in making this award. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Janet & Ron May Merit Scholarship Fund. Renewable: All scholarships hereunder shall be for one academic year. Previous recipients will be considered if they again meet eligibility criteria.

20 Judith Hatch Memorial Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 2007 by Philip Hatch in memory of his wife, Judith, to provide full tuition scholarships for as many Oregon resident students enrolled in the College of Education with a federally established financial need. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Oregon resident; (2) Financial need. Award Amount: Full tuition scholarships.

21 Maggie Niess Scholarship in Math Education Purpose: Established in 2006 by Bryce and Kathleen Hixon to provide scholarships for preservice teachers preparing to teach mathematics. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Recipient is a pre-service teacher in the one-year graduate initial licensure program in Mathematics Education in the College of Education; (2) Recipient has demonstrated preparation for teaching through academic coursework in the program s summer courses, work experiences, and other related experiences and activities; (3) Recipient has demonstrated the potential, enthusiasm and commitment for excellence in mathematics teaching; (4) Recipient demonstrates commitment to student learning in elementary, middle and/or high school mathematics. Award Amount: Awards will be $1,000 annually. Renewable: All scholarships hereunder shall be for one academic year.

22 Marilyn Parrish Education Scholarship Purpose: Created in 2010 to assist an OSU student completing a degree in Education and consistent with the Foundation s policies and with its status as a tax-exempt organization. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Recipient is a student enrolled in an education program in the College of Education preparing to complete their degree. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Marilyn Parris Education Scholarship Endowment Fund. The amount of the award and number awarded will be determined by the scholarship committee.

23 Mary Rieke & Barbara Chaplin Memorial Scholarship Purpose: In 1990, OSU Foundation combined the Mary Rieke Memorial Scholarship and the Barbara Chaplin Memorial Scholarship to establish the Rieke & Chaplin Memorial Scholarship. Unfortunately, the Foundation s file contains no biographical information on Barbara Chaplin, but it does for Mary Rieke, who was a high school teacher and counselor. Her contributions to education and efforts to improve race relations brought the National Education Associate Thomas McCann award in The following year, former President Lyndon B. Johnson named her to the national advisory council for the Education Professions Development Act. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Recipient is a graduate student in any education major in the College of Education, who is particularly dedicated to the field of education and may have already attained some particular level of achievement; (2) Recipient earned a 3.5 GPA in the last two quarters of undergraduate study. Award Amount: Awards will be $1,000- $1,500 annually, contingent upon University current use earnings from the endowed fund.

24 Matilda Thorgaard Hawaiian Education Scholarship Purpose: Established in 2008 by Gary H. Thorgaard in memory of his mother, Matilda Thorgaard, to provide an annual award to a student enrolled in an education program and whose home state is Hawaii. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Recipient is a student enrolled in an education program in the College of Education; (2) Recipient s home state is Hawaii. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Matilda Thorgaard Hawaiian Education Scholarship Fund.

25 Matthew & Frances Kralj Scholarship Purpose: Established in 2005 by Mark J. and Katherine Kralj in memory of Mark s parents to provide scholarship support for students in the College of Education. Eligibility Criteria: Recipients are selected in accordance with the College of Education Scholarship Committee s policies and procedures for awarding Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Matthew & Frances Kralj Scholarship Fund and determined by the scholarship committee based on the amount available in the fund.

26 Milosh & Jeanne Popovich Scholarship Purpose: Established in 2009 by Milosh Popovich to provide scholarship support for students in the College of Education, with preference for English majors. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Recipients with English majors are preferred; (2) Recipients will be selected in accordance with the College of Education Scholarship Committee s policies and procedures for awarding Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Milosh & Jeanne Popovich Scholarship Fund and determined by the scholarship committee based on the amount available in the fund.

27 Olovson Family Endowed Scholarship in the College of Education Purpose: Established in 2013 by Karen Ann Stephenson in memory of Arvid and Ella Olovson to provide scholarships to students studying in the College of Education. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Recipients shall be pursuing a teaching degree; (2) Recipients will have a GPA of 3.25 or greater; (3) Recipients will have an intention of teaching in the sciences at the middle school or high school level; (4) Strong preference will be given to students from Forest Grove High School; (5) Strong preference will be given to female students or to support gender equity of science teachers. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Olovson Family Endowed Scholarship Fund and determined by the scholarship committee based on the amount available in the fund.

28 Paul G. Chief Denison Education Scholarship Purpose: The fund will provide scholarships for student in the College of Education at the University. Funding: The fund has been established with a $100,000 distribution from the Estate of Paul Denison. The principal of this fund shall be considered an endowment fund and shall be kept intact and invested in accordance with the investment and spending policies set forth from time to time by the Foundation with only the net income and such net appreciation generated therefrom as the Foundation deems prudent to be expended for the purpose of the fund. Eligibility Criteria: Criteria will be established by the College of Education. Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Paul G. Chief Denison Education Scholarship. The amount of the award and number awarded will be determined by the selection committee. The Foundation may assess such fees as reasonable and necessary to meet the costs of acceptance, investment and administration, in accordance with the Foundation s fee schedule set forth by the Foundation Board of Trustees. Should it ever become impossible or impractical to use the gift for the purpose specified in these guidelines, the Trustees of the Foundation, in their discretion, may distribute or use the net income or may devote the entire income and principal of the fund to the support of any other uses most similar to the original interest and intent.

29 Robert G. Nielsen and Lucille H. Nielsen Education Fund Purpose: Established with the proceeds from the Nielsen Charitable Remainder Unitrust agreement of June 19, 1997, the purpose of this endowment is to provide direct support for the Master of Arts in Teaching Program by distributing the unitrust proceeds as follows: annual MAT Fellowships (40%) and an endowed fund to support Master of Arts in Teacher Education Faculty (60%). Eligibility Criteria: (1) above-average applicant with respect to admitted application, (2) demonstrated leadership skills, (3) demonstrated volunteer experience with youth, and (4) demonstrated work experience with youth. Award Amount: Scholarship funds will be provided on the basis of 1/3 each term at OSU. Renewable: The scholarship may be granted to the same individual for one or more years at the discretion of the scholarship committee.

30 S David and Carol R Eves Scholarship Purpose: Established in 1991 by S. David and Carol R. Eves in recognition of their strong interest in Oregon State University. Eligibility Criteria: (1) Recipient must be a well-rounded individual, having demonstrated good citizenship in school and community; (2) First preference will be given to a Corvallis High School graduate, and if none qualify, then to a Benton County, Oregon high school graduate in their junior or senior year at OSU, who are planning to become elementary school teachers; (3) Second preference may be given to Benton County students planning to teach at the secondary level or students from Benton County in any academic area; (4) Academic achievement and financial need may be considered, but are not overriding considerations; (5) Recipient is expected to carry a normal academic load and earn a minimum GPA of 2.0 each term. Award Amount: Scholarship funds will be provided on the basis of 1/3 each term at OSU. Renewable: The scholarship may be granted to the same individual for one or more years at the discretion of the scholarship committee.

31 Scott D Henderson Memorial Fellowship Purpose: Established in 1990 by Donald and Linda Henderson in memory of their son, Scott D. Henderson, to provide scholarship support for students pursuing a Master s degree in Adult Education with a concentration in English as a second language. Eligibility Criteria: Master s Students in Postsecondary Education. Award Amount: $500

32 Stanley E Williamson Memorial Scholarship Purpose: Established by family and friends of Stan Williamson to commemorate his life and provide scholarship support for students pursuing a Master s of Science or Doctor of Philosophy degree in Science Education and Mathematics Education. Funding: Various contributions have been received by the OSU Foundation. Eligibility Criteria: Full-time graduate students pursuing a M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Science Education or Mathematics Education, who (1) are teachers whose focus is on teaching science/math in elementary, middle or high school; (2) demonstrate leadership capabilities; (3) demonstrate potential to impact science/mathematics education statewide, regionally, nationally, or internationally; (4) demonstrate potential, enthusiasm and commitment for quality mathematics/science teaching; (5) demonstrate a commitment to students in their pursuit of science/mathematics education. Award Amount: $1,000 or determined by the scholarship committee.

33 Teach for Beaverton Scholarship Purpose: Established by Betty and James Flad in 2016 to provide scholarships for students pursuing a M.A.T. degree in collaboration with the Teach for Beaverton program, a partnership between Beaverton School District and the Oregon State University College of Education. Funding: A pledge of annual payments used to establish the endowment fund and various contributions received by the OSU Foundation. Eligibility Criteria: Students in the second year of the Teach for Beaverton program. Should the Teach for Beaverton program cease to exist, the scholarship shall be used to support Oregon State University College of Education students with a preference for students who have graduated from Beaverton area high schools. Award Amount: Determined by the scholarship committee and based on available funds. Renewable: No

36 Warren Suzuki Legacy Scholarship Fund Purpose: Established in 2012 by Walter Horikawa, taking into account his interest in the College of Education, to provide scholarship support for students in the College of Education. purposes. The Fund will enrich the climate for diversity in the College and add to the diversity of Oregon s education workforce. For the purposes of this scholarship, diverse students is defined as 1) being a member of a racial or ethnic minority in the community, 2) first generation to attend college, 3) having financial need as demonstrated on the FAFSA, 4) having a disability, 5) having a primary life role prior to attending OSU that was other than student, or 6) having a history of involvement in diverse communities (including racial or ethnic minority communities, disabled communities or Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender communities). Award Amount: Scholarship awards will be provided by the interest earnings generated by the Warren Suzuki Legacy Scholarship Fund and determined by the scholarship committee based on the amount available in the fund.
