6 6 Nursing in Practice Bournemouth Chair Elaine Spencer Nurse Governing Body Member, Dorset CCG Elaine Spencer took up her post as a Governing Body Member at Dorset CCG in August She also fulfills the role of the Freedom to Speak up Guardian and is the Governing Body Equality and Diversity Lead. Elaine has most recently been working within the Safety & Quality Team at Brighton and Sussex University Hospital Trust investigating serious incidents and leading on the Duty of Candour. She has previously worked as a Consultant Nurse in Cardiology at Guy s and St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust, introducing and evaluating nurse-led services and as a Clinical Director of S&C Healthcare providing clinical and management services to the NHS. She has been involved in designing, delivering and commissioning innovative services, including complex care pathways. Elaine has shared her knowledge and expertise widely as a public speaker, a lecturer and is widely published.

7 7 Nursing in Practice Bournemouth Speakers Stella Campbell Consultant Radiographer, Dorset Breast Screening Unit, Poole Hospital Having graduated as a radiographer in 2000, Stella Campbell took an interest in breast screening in She joined the Dorset Breast Screening Unit in 2010 as an advanced practitioner, completing a Master s degree in Medical Imaging (Mammography) in This included training in mammography reporting, breast ultrasound, clinical breast examination and interventional techniques. She became a Consultant Radiographer in 2013; where she reports screening mammograms and is responsible for ensuring women with abnormal screening have an appropriate assessment, referring to a breast surgeon if required. Stella works as part of the multidisciplinary breast team, advising in clinical and strategic decision making including: researching and evaluating latest technology, health promotion and acting as mentor to other advanced practice health care professionals. David Green Nurse Consultant Immunisations, Public Health England Previously an infection prevention nurse, David Green s interest in vaccine preventable diseases started in 2008 whilst employed in Calderdale PCT as an immunisation coordinator. He has a professional interest on improving uptake of flu and whooping cough vaccines in pregnancy, education of healthcare professionals in immunisation and the formulation of national patient group directions for immunisation. David completed a Master s Degree in Public Health at the University of Leeds in 2014 with a research focus on the efficacy of pneumococcal vaccines in the elderly.

8 8 Nursing in Practice Bournemouth Speakers Natalie Harper Respiratory Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Dorset County Hospital, Executive Committee Member, Association of Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Regional Trainer, Education for Health Natalie Harper originally trained in Suffolk from as an Enrolled Nurse and then subsequently converted to a Registered Nurse. She worked as a Practice Nurse for 19 years with a passion in respiratory medicine before returning to secondary care as a Respiratory Nurse Specialist in 2009, progressing to an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Since then she has continued to maintain strong links with both primary and secondary care. As an independent non-medical prescriber, she now runs nurse led respiratory clinics in three community hospitals and an acute hospital covering a range of respiratory conditions. She is always fully aware of the challenges and problems that patients, carers and staff face on a daily basis and strongly believes that working within a large multidisciplinary team benefits everyone involved. She joined Education for Health as a Regional Trainer in 2009 with a desire to improve patient care and enhance the skill levels of fellow health professionals after previous experience of being a student with Education for Health, having completed the Asthma diploma in 1995 as well as her BSc Hons in Respiratory Care in She went on to complete her MSc in advanced practice in Anne Hunt Sepsis Lead Nurse, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust Anne Hunt qualified in 1991 and spent most of the first ten years of her career in A&E nursing, researching violence against staff for her MSc in Health Sciences dissertation. She moved on to be an acute admissions ward sister and matron for surgery. After a break from nursing while her children were small, she returned to practice and

9 9 Nursing in Practice Bournemouth worked in intensive care for six years, including rotation to Critical Care Outreach in the final year. During her ICU course, she developed an interest in sepsis. She then began studying for a doctorate in health research at the University of Hertfordshire where she is currently looking at sepsis in people with learning disabilities. She joined East and North Herts NHS Trust as Sepsis Lead Nurse in February 2017 and has found it draws on all her variety of experience and her passion for providing the best possible care for sepsis patients. She loves enabling others to succeed directly or indirectly through and has developed links with community nurses to provide reciprocal teaching to clients and carers. Sarah Jarvis Lead Nurse and Non-Medical Prescriber, Change, Grow, Live Sarah Jarvis started her nursing career in intensive care where she looked after a number of patients who were critically unwell through alcohol related disease. Following this she began working as an Alcohol Liaison Nurse specialist, before undertaking her current role with Change, Grow, Live as Lead Nurse for the community drug and alcohol service in Swindon. Prior to her nursing career she worked within the prison service delivering offender behaviour programmes and it is through this role where she saw first-hand the negative effects that alcohol and drug addiction can cause to individuals psychologically, socially and physically.

10 10 Nursing in Practice Bournemouth Stephen Miles Clinical Nurse Specialist Team Lead, Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust, Past Chair, RCN Continence Care Forum Committee, Past Chair, Southern Counties Continence Forum After a 21 year career in farming, Stephen Miles entered nursing in He spent three years in Royal Winchester County Hospital after graduation and then escaped to the community in 1999, obtaining District Nursing degree two years later. Stephen moved into the field of continence in 2003, combining this with an Academic Practitioner role at Southampton University. He has spent the last 14 years trying to make the case that getting old does not mean getting incontinent and hopefully motivating people to want to provide advice and treatment that could cure or at least alleviate a bladder and bowel problem. Dr Adie Viljoen Consultant Chemical Pathologist, Hertfordshire Dr Adie Viljoen is a clinical specialist and has worked as Consultant Chemical Pathologist and Metabolic Physician in Hertfordshire, UK since 2006 having trained in South Africa where he received his medical and speciality medicine qualifications. He is Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Postgraduate Medical School and Member of the Institute for Diabetes in Older People (IDOP). He is the UK Chief Investigator and Principal Site Investigator for several international phase 2 and 3 research trials in diabetes, obesity and lipids including studies such as Examine, Origin,4T and Crescendo.

You will be able to access these by filling out the post-event feedback form which will be ed to you within 48 hours. Visitors/delegates are prohibited from selling or promoting any product by word-of-mouth. The organisers reserve the right to remove any literature and to ask the person to leave.
