1 CIRCLE CITY CIRCULATOR Spring 2010 President s Message Recently we had just a teaser of several warm days. Consequently, I am eager for spring s arrival more than ever! I look forward to planting a few flowers and enjoying the outdoors after being inside for far too many months. For CIC, the spring season means board elections are coming soon. This process ensures that you have a voice in the future of our organization. A strong board allows us to keep growing and developing a healthy support or root system just as those plants I hope to nurture. You won t want to miss our April conference. We are offering an array of interesting and exciting topics. Take a peek inside this info packed newsletter for more details. I hope that you recently took a moment to congratulate yourself or acknowledge a colleague for their achievements on National Certification Day which was on March 19 th. We need let the Hallmark corporation know that this day of celebration is a prime opportunity to sell more cards. My husband insists that some holidays such as Sweetest Day are made up just for commercial purpose. Personally, I think he does not want to feel the pressure of needing to give me one of those cards. CIC is delighted to support Judy Dodge in attending this year s NTI! Her scholarship winning exemplar highlighted the worthwhile effort she is doing within her work environment to make it healthy and salutary for staff. We know that a healthy work environment contributes to a more healing and safe atmosphere for patients. Watch out D.C., those politicians will not know what hit them when thousands of nurses, like Judy, invade the city. I always say that if you want to really solve a dilemma put a nurse in charge because they know how to get things done and typically do it with minimal resources. After all, we nurses are masters of troubleshooting and finding a solution to our challenges. Join me in saluting Judy and if you too are going to NTI have fun networking and learning from some of the best problem solvers in the workforce. Spring is upon us; so plant your seeds, pull your weeds, and continue to grow with you local chapter of AACN. Sincerely, CIC-AACN Spring Newsletter 2010, Page 1
2 Bragging Rights for Your AACN Chapter We have been accepted and will be presen2ng a chapter poster at NTI. A big thanks to Melissa Lowder for all her hard work while pu?ng our poster together. It is a huge honor to be selected to present this. Only 10 chapters from the US will be on display! The poster will be covering the Cri2cal Care Bowl and will have some pictures featured of our members. Elec8ons It s that 2me again. Elec2ons are coming up for President Elect, Treasurer Elect and Secretary. The President- Elect must be a past board member. Other non- elected posi2ons on the board include, Membership Chairs, Community Projects, Publica2ons, Programs and Educa2on. Any nomina2ons or interested par2es, please us at cicaacn@gmail.com.
