2 AACN chapters provide members a local connection to their professional nursing organization and its leaders through continuing education, volunteer opportunities, and networking with other community nursing professionals. Nurses active in AACN chapters gain advanced knowledge and leadership skills to provide optimal care to their patients in their pursuit of nursing excellence. 4 AACN Ambassadors AACN Ambassadors: Serve a fundamental role in advancing the mission of AACN by advocating for professional practice and promoting excellence in acute and critical care nursing Accomplish this by communicating the value of AACN and championing: *Membership in the professional AACN community *Specialty certification for acute and critical care nurses *Evidence-based practice standards and protocols *Recognition of excellence through the Beacon unit excellence program *Engagement in educational opportunities including NTI, e-learning and the free CE center *Local AACN chapter involvement. 4

10 Ambassador Alerts and Updates Communication is essential to the success of the Ambassador/National AACN partnership: Monthly Updates to keep you apprised of what is coming forward from AACN and how it will impact you and your colleagues Additionally, AACN Ambassador Action Alerts are sent as targeted messages in which you are asked to forward information or gather data on important issues 10

11 Respond to communication from National AACN by the stated deadline or within one week if no deadline is specified Provide semi-annual reports to the national office staff regarding your Ambassador activities when prompted by to do so Stay up-to-date on AACN initiatives and forward relevant information to your colleagues using key resources such as AACN Bold Voices, Critical Care Nurse, American Journal of Critical Care, Critical Care Newsline, AACN website and Ambassador Updates 11

12 AACN Practice Alerts These succinct, dynamic directives are supported by authoritative evidence to ensure excellence in practice and a safe and humane work environment. The topics address both nursing and multidisciplinary activities of importance to critically ill patients or environments. AACN Ambassador Accountabilities Actively promote AACN in your unit and/or facility including communicating the value of AACN to staff nurses and nursing leadership. 12
