3 Lost in Japanese Healthcare System : A true story of Tourist from Hong Kong <User (Patient) Info> 34 y/o Female Traveling with her husband and 2 daughters Traveled to Japan multiple times with her family No traveler s medical insurance Had UTI(Urinary Tract Infection) a few times in the past May 06, 2017:Arrived at Haneda Enjoyed traveling through Japan. May 10, 2017:Hakone Trip by rental-car, left Tokyo in the morning. 4:00 pm:medical symptom occurred suddenly. (Pain on her bladder. Similar symptom to UTI that she had before.) 4:20 pm:she sent WhatsApp message to her Japanese friend in Japan to ask hospital neaby. 4:21 pm:her friend searched online and called a public medical info desk for foreigners, but all the hospitals introduced were NOT open nor multi-lingual. Info given by the facility was NOT credible. 6:00 pm:her friend called his brother, Kazunari Karahashi, M.D., for hospital referral. 6:05 pm:karahashi called his former workplace, Hospital S and arranged walk-in permission. 6:08 pm:she and her family cancelled their plan in Hakone and started driving to Tokyo. 7:30 pm:they arrived at Hospital S. 8:30 pm:doctor performed urinary test and prescribed her anti-biotics. 9:00 pm:she had to pay huge amount since she didn t have an insurance. Next Day on:she feels better. Her family enjoyed rest of their stay in Japan. This story saying... Finding a doctor in foreign country is a time-consuming and difficult.
